The location of the house is wonderful. Cross the street and you are at the access. It is sparkling clean. And a good set-up for families, only exception is a double bed downstairs. The management company was incredibly easy compared to some horrors I have dealt with.
I rented this house for my parents and my grandma who were visiting me from France.
My grandma stayed in the downstairs bedroom and enjoyed the spacious adjoining bathroom.
My parents loved the upstairs area with ocean view. They enjoyed reading, writing, doing watercolors and were even able to spot some whales from there.
Everybody had a wonderful time, sunbathing, surfing, playing beach volley.
The house was spacious enough to organize a dinner of 9 people and the dishwasher really came in handy.
The place was clean and tidy, and the agents very helpful and accommodating.
So I'll start with the good. The location is great (right across the street from beach access). You can hear and see the ocean from the house. And the bathrooms were clean. They also allow dogs which I really appreciate. Now for the kicker. What the description of the house doesn't tell you is that you need to bring your own sheets and towels and dish towels! There are no sheets, pillow cases, towels, hand towels, wash cloths and even dish towels for the kitchen. I think this is really odd. And you don't find out you need to bring your own until you get your reservation confirmation letter from the rental company. And if you decide you don't want to rent a house where you have to bring your own linens and decide to cancel, you loose your deposit! But, hey, the rental company will rent them to you for a fee. Seems a little dishonest to me. I really hope the owner decides to put this info into the description of the house so people can make an informed choice. I really don't appreciate not being told about it up front. I personally would not have rented this house if I had known because I don't want to go on vacation and make a bunch of beds. Maybe that's why they don't put it in. The rest of the house is average. It's pretty clean, except for the blankets on the beds(yes there are blankets). They were really dirty. I don't think they get washed very often if at all. I'm guessing the cleaning crew isn't contracted to do laundry. All in all the location of the house doesn't make the whole linen thing worth it so I can't recommend it.
What you want and what you get can be surprising in nice ways. I loved this house from the first chance I had to view it. It was competitive with local hotel rooms (pet-friendly)... and the main bathroom - complete with glass-cage shower and adjacent bathtub - was half the size of an average hotel room. Overall, I loved my 3-day visit here. The internet pics were a bit unkind to the actual house, and distracted me from some of the incredible features this home offers to the short-time visitor: ocean view, quiet neighborhood, easy access to beach (across street and down stairs), copious space and comfort... Normally I prefer to locate myself within walking distance of restaurants... This time, sans wife, I enjoyed living a mile outside of outside from the hustle and bustle of Cayucos (ha!) and cooked in my own kitchen. The night I did eat in Cayucos - the first night - I found the mile into town not challenging (imagine that!)... High recommendations.
