Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Our spacious two bedroom home is located on a hilltop in El Centenario, a suburb 10 miles west of La Paz. The home is air conditioned thru-out and features an open floor plan. An artist designed iron and glass front door opens to an entry foyer, then to a large Great room with French doors opening to an expansive and private pool terrace. A fully equipped kitchen and laundry room complete with a washer and dryer are available for your use. Both bedrooms include en-suite bathrooms and both have sliding glass doors leading to the pool terrace. You will enjoy over 1,500 sq ft of indoor space plus another 1,500 sq ft of private outdoor terraces, including four ramadas and your own private swimming pool complete with a cascading fountain.

In addition to a sun terrace there are numerous shady nooks with comfortable outdoor seating areas and a large built in barbeque. A circular iron staircase leads to a roof top terrace providing an amazing 360 degree panoramic view of the Sea of Cortez, the mountains, the city lights of La Paz and the beautiful sunsets.

The house features granite counter tops, marble tile bathrooms, expansive windows, high ceilings and crown moldings throughout, and is combined with beautiful furnishings and art work creating a luxurious atmosphere for a great relaxing vacation.

Our home is located 15-20 minutes from the center of La Paz, so if you prefer to be in the center of the action our house is not the one you want. Our location is in a very nice quiet residential hillside neighborhood with great views of the city and the ocean and lots of privacy.

No pets, no smoking, and no children under 10. This is not a party house and we ask, in respect to our neighbors, that moderate noise levels be maintained at all times and that quiet hours are observed from 11 pm to 7 am. Beach chairs, beach umbrella, beach mats, beach towels, and ice chest are provided for your use. Our property manager lives in the neighborhood and can assist with any questions you may have. Additional photos available on request.

TRAVEL TIP.... While La Paz is an international airport with flights from the U.S., we find that flight schedules and airfares are usually better flying into Cabo, just 90 miles to the South. Rental cars are usually less expensive as well and it is a very nice 2 and a 1/2 hour drive on a four lane highway along the Pacific Coast and through Todo Santos.

Note: The automatic pricing option does not include a charge of $7 per day utilities charge which includes, water, electric, gas, trash, and internet.

Why Robert Austin chose El Centenario

Like so many retirees, we began looking for a warm weather destination where we could build a vacation home to spend the winter months, and eventually our search took us to La Paz as we were looking for a destination less touristy than the better known resort towns. The old world charm of La Paz is still evident in the beautiful colonial architecture, and it is without doubt one of the most beautiful cities on the Baja. If you haven't discovered La Paz yet, it is about 90 miles north of Cabo, a city of 250,000, and the capital of the southern Baja with nonstop flights to the U.S. While La Paz has tourism, it is not a major part of the economy so far, however that is beginning to change. There are some good sized tourist developments now underway, and the city's recently opened two world class golf courses, at very reasonable prices. It is a top destination for travelers looking for great weather, beaches, fishing, diving, snorkeling, boating, windsurfing, hiking, eco-tourism, and more. Cruise Lines are beginning to discover La Paz... with stops from Holland America, Carnival, Princess, and smaller lines such as National Geographic and Safari Cruise, Lines.

What makes this house unique

La Paz is a charming colonial city dating back to the 16th century. The heart of the city is the waterfront, with hotels, restaurants, cafes, and shops fronting the city's three mile long seaside boardwalk called the Malecon, which hums with activity day and night, from both locals and visitors alike. Nearby Espiritu Santo (island) is a great day trip and a UNESCO Biosphere and World Heritage Site. We thoroughly enjoy poking around in La Paz, with its restaurants, shopping, activities, and its wonderful waterfront walkway, the Malecon, which is far and away the most beautiful we have ever seen, including Puerto Vallarta. But when it came to selecting a home, we wanted more space and something a bit quieter and more private than we could find in town. A view of the Bay, a large terrace, private pool, and a beautiful private garden were also high on our list. The house is built in traditional colonial style complete with a domed cupola in the great room. The property provides lots of privacy with a 10,000 sq ft lot screened by walls and flowering hedges. The two bedrooms are on opposite ends of the house, both with ensuite baths, provding the maximum separation and privacy. A rooftop terrace provides a 360 degree panoramic view of the Sea of Cortez, the city of La Paz, the mountains, and the amazing sunrises and sunsets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Your home was simply beautiful! It was just far enough removed from the city for Kenneth and I to get the much needed peace we were seeking. Your home had all the amenities we are accustomed to in our own home, so it truly felt like home away from home. Burt was extremely helpful and unbelievably responsive to our requests and questions... please thank him for us! I will absolutely recommend your home to others and look forward to our next trip to La Paz. Thank you for providing the perfect setting for a memorable 19th wedding anniversary!"

Most relaxing vacation ever.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful home in Jan and Feb. It was certainly everything it claimed to be and more. The pool deck is incredible and so very hard to leave! We found La Paz to be interesting on so many levels and every where we went the people were very kind and friendly. Balandra beach was amazing. the water was very clear and pristine. Big Ruby's was our favorite restaurant both for the food and the friendly staff. Burt and Elaine, the property managers, were extremely helpful, friendly and close by. Burt is a wealth of information on just about everything. He recommended puting out oranges for the birds, which we did and we were delighted by a wide variety that visited pool side every day. If you rent this house you will find yourselves not wanting to leave. Thanks to Rob and Ursula for sharing their wonderful home!

Owner's Response: I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our Casa. We've tried to make the home as comfortable as possible. It sounds as if you really got around to experience the La Paz, area as well.... it's beaches, restaurants, the friendly people, and the wonderful waterfront of La Paz with its beautiful and active Malecon. We agree that It truly is an amazing place. We have been coming down for 8 years now, always enjoy our stay, and we never want to leave either! Rob

Out of the other rentals this is far the best that we have stayed at. I loved the pool and the size of the master bedroom. No complaints on this one. Awesome.

Beautiful, comfortable home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Hard not to give this home 5 stars! The home is an easy drive from downtown La Paz, in an off the beaten path neighborhood that is unique in it's own right. It's quiet, peaceful and safe. The roads are dirt and bumpy, but easy to drive on and it adds to the charm of the area. The home is stunning, fully equipped with everything you need and ready to go as soon as you step in the door. It's private and secure. Kitchen is fully loaded with all appliances and utensils. Beds and linens are comfortable and I used the soaker tub every night. The home was impeccably clean.

Our favorite time was coffee and breakfast on the terrace by the pool. Burt, the property manager, was easily accessible and it was nice to know he was just around the corner if we needed anything. You definitely need a car here, nothing is within walking distance. La Paz isn't far and has everything you need and other than the Malecon, it is not an overly touristy area. Ruby's Cantina was suggested by several people for dinner and is just down the road. Highly recommend! There are multiple things to do in the area, pack up the car with a cooler, beach towels etc (all provided!) and head out for the day. The weather wasn't overly hot for La Paz while we were there (25C) so the unheated pool was a little too chilly to swim in (bit disappointing). We did jump in a few times though!

We appreciated all the quick correspondence from Rob, the owner. The only other advice I would suggest would be to make sure that if you are driving to the house, you give yourself plenty of time to get to there before dark. It can be dangerous driving at night. Make sure to pack a GPS / map...road signs are unreliable and stop signs are just a suggestion!

Highly recommend staying at Austin Casa! This is a beautiful part of the country!

Beautiful home in tranquil setting

  • 5 of 5

We were fortunate to enjoy this lovely home for 6 weeks this winter. It was the perfect place for our return to the La Paz area after many years. The home is beautifully decorated, comfortable & clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the private pool, terraces, and rooftop patio. The neighborhood was safe and quiet. The home is a bit off the beaten path - something we wanted - but still convenient to La Paz. A car is recommended; we drove from Canada (the transpeninsular highway in Baja California is one of the great roadtrips), so getting groceries & visiting the beautiful beaches in the area were not an issue. While a vehicle allowed us to return to old haunts & discover some new favorites, we also loved car-free days when we'd walk through the surrounding forests of cacti or hike to El Mogote where we'd have the beach completely to ourselves. Rob - the owner - was excellent to work with, Burt - the local property manager - was friendly and helpful, and Victor - who kept the pool sparkling -was much appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful return to a really special place.
