Not a great experience and overpriced
We stayed at this property over Christmas. Unfortunately due to several items that were not working and it being the holiday it was not a home we would rent again. The location is remote and a cab is needed to get any supplies or go to restaurants. The furniture was very uncomfortable and not even a lounge chair available to enjoy pool time. We had to BBQ at the neighbors that were very helpful to assist to navigate the area. We had scorpions in the bedroom, ants in the kitchen. We did love the incredible view. The beach was gorgeous but the hike down and back was for extremely fit people only.
Thankfully home owners that were there at their homes in the resort for Christmas made the experience tolerable.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I was sorry to hear our home and this beautiful area didn't meet your expectations. Our price is extremely reasonable for a 2 bedroom oceanfront home and the location is very clearly written on our listing as being 30 minutes from the airport with a more detailed location included on the map and directions we send to all our guests.... a rental car(preferred) or taxis are definitely the best way to get around the area.
Any issues you had were responded to and remedied quickly with the exception of the TV reception which regrettably took a couple of days to sort out over the holidays. We have taken note and are looking into finding better seating and loungers to make it a more comfortable experience in the future and thank you for mentioning our great neighbors, I'm glad they were able to help you out. All the best in your future travels!
Great stay in comfortable Oso Blanco House
We spent a few days in April 2017 in this house, with 3 teenage kids. They enjoy it a lot: the pool, the outdoor shower, the view, WiFi...
We, as parents, loved it too, but would have appreciated more shade on the beautiful terraces.
The beaches are all different, all unique, all great. Some with big waves, some more quiet and appropriate for snorkeling.
Lots of places to eat fresh fish with your feet in the sand...
My family and I just returned from a fantastic trip to Puerto Angel, Mexico. We stayed at Casa del Oso Blanco in the gated community of Mina Del Angel just on the outskirts of town. The house was well equipped to easily accommodate our group of 5 and actually has sleeping provisions for 10. All the kitchen amenities were there including a blender and coffee machine. Pool toys, lots of towels, patio furniture, and extremely comfy beds all added to the stay. Watching the sunrise with a fresh coffee in hand from the main deck of the house or from the palapa covered lounge area on upper deck was a daily ritual. Our two teen age girls loved hanging out in the nearby infinity pool and the outdoor shower at the house was a big hit. Fresh limes from a tree right outside the kitchen were also a big hit when it was time for a cold cervesa. The closest beach, Playa la Mina, is only a few minutes walking distance away, and was a popular spot for swimming, snorkelling, and diving off a rock outcropping that’s a regular stop for boat tours. We’ve stayed in the area before so it was great to return to some of our favorite restaurants. All of which are within 15 minutes of the house. Cordelia’s is great for food right on the beach and usually is a quiet spot to snorkel as well. A little further down the road at Zipolite, El Alquimista is a “must”. With the house so close to town, it's easy to go back and forth for groceries and other supplies. We always felt secure at the house with Mariano manning the gate 24/7. He is also the caretaker and maintenance man for the community and has helped us out whenever we needed a hand. Manuela looks after all the housekeeping and is a great resource for any questions you have about the area and has also helped us out a lot. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend it as a quiet place to unwind.
A Great Stay at the Casa del Oso Blanco
Our group of 12 (7 adults, 5 kids) rented this house and the one next door for a two week family reunion at Christmas and New Years. The owner, Alan, was very helpful and easy to work with in advance, and it was great to see that the photos and description of the property matched what greeted us on arrival. While we've stayed at all-inclusive resorts and in more touristed areas in the past, we were looking for a more relaxed, affordable family vacation on a beautiful part of the Oaxacan coast and were not disappointed!
The home is located in a gated condo community that is still under development, though that was not at all a problem for us. There is a wonderful pool situated on the cliff-side overlooking the Pacific, and it gets lots of shade in the afternoon. Sunrises are beautiful from the front deck (yes, they heat up the house, but with the sliding glass doors open things were just fine, and the air-con in the bedrooms made for a nice retreat...and if you don't like heat, you shouldn't go to Oaxaca's coast anyways!), and it was a lot of fun to watch the local boats, schools of flying manta rays, and huge moon rises from the patio.
We spent most of our days at the beach or the pool, but the house is well-equipped with dvds, cards, games, books, etc. Do bring extra dvds if you get easily bored; there is internet service, though it was slow and reception spotty from time to time, but my wife was quite glad since it meant our teen age son and I unplugged from the world except for me checking e-mail once a day! The house cleaners do a great job of cleaning (twice a week), the kitchens were well-stocked, and we were very happy to have laundry facilities in-house.
It is easiest in this part of Oaxaca if you have your own car. However, taxi service can be arranged, and it would not be a hassle if you are flexible or used to this sort of travel. We had cars and so took day trips to Puerto Escondido and to the mountains, visited the many beaches (be sure to go to Mazunte and to the Ventanilla nature preserve), and to get to the Bodega Aurera (WalMart) 20 minutes away in Pochutla. We never did find the mythical pizza joint of El Alquimista! That aside, the kids actually loved walking down the steep mountain side to the little beach, La Mina, a 10 minute walk down, and 15 back. There, they passed several days collecting shells, swimming, throwing the frisbee, snorkeling, and jumping off the huge rock in the bay. Lots of great memories from this trip!
Thrilled you had such a great time Lars! Thank you!
My wife and I spent a wonderfully relaxing time here. It was everything we had hoped for - comfortable, quiet and with a view of the coast and ocean that could not be surpassed. The staff were helpful and friendly and the beaches in the area were quiet and safe. We also enjoyed our trips to the bays of Huatulco as well as Puerto Escondido, both less than an hours drive away. The villages of Puerto Angel, Zipolite and Mezunte all had wonderful beaches and restaurants within an easy car or taxi ride.
The owner had ensured that the house was well equipped which enabled us to enjoy meals at home made with locally caught fish and fruit and vegetables from the local markets - heaven!
I would have no hesitation in recommending La Casa del Oso Blanco.
The site is breathtaking and Puerto Angel is a nice little town. But the villa was disapointing. Half the sreens had big enough holes preventing us to open those windows during the day. A scorpion bit a friend in the bedroom.
Thanks to the mantenance man and the houskeeping lady who were around to fix everything that needed fixing. The Villa needs love and care...
The air conditioning in the room down stairs gave the impression it was about to give it's last breath when turned on before going to bed. In need of a good check up!!!
Then the toilet would not flush. The maintenance man fixed it with a piece of plastic shopping bag... Who knows how long that's going to last?
There was the water pump. It pissed during 30 seconds, stoped for 1,5 minute and pissed again. Day in and day out... The water went out on the 5th of March (arrived on February 21) forcing us to go out for supper. We got back, the maintenance man was waiting for us. He had fixed temporarily the pump and the water was running again. He came back the next morning with a helper. They cut the water, changed a few pieces and turned the water back on. Finaly on our the last evening, the water shut down AGAIN! It was the 5th time he came for the pump or the toilet.
I'm sorry to see that the photographies of the villa on Homelydays do not resemble the reality of the outdoors... No sun chairs... 4 were shown. Only one Adirondk chair, left by a other vacationer, was left.
Not to comfy for 28 day stay!
Thanks to the neighbors for their solidarity!
Don't miss Market day-Mondays in Pochutla.....Great snorkel and boat tours from Cordelias at Playa Panteon in PA and the National Turtle Museum in Mazunte!
