Staying in this inviting and comfortable home overlooking stunning views along the west coast of Sweden was one of our best vacation home rental experiences ever.
From our initial inquiry to booking to final checkout, dealing with both the owner and caretaker was a pleasure. The owner loves this home and the location and is eager for her guests to do the same. The home is warm and inviting with personal touches that makes it feel more like staying at a friend’s house rather than in an impersonal vacation rental. As for the views from almost anywhere inside, they are fantastic. We loved watching the ever-changing panorama of water, color, clouds, and light just outside our windows, as well as the antics of swans, geese, gulls, and other water fowl nesting in the rocks and along the water.
The weather was chilly and blustery during our stay, so we did not get to use the kayaks or take a dip in the water by the boathouse. But, we did explore much of this magical part of Sweden. We visited almost every little village on Orust and Tjorn, ventured to Lysekil and hiked the Stangehuvud rocks, strolled the Standpromenaden in Uddevalla to Gustafsberg and back, and enjoyed an afternnon in Pilane Sculpture Park. A highlight of our week was a visit to the Nordic Watercolor Museum in Skarhamn. If you are interested in art and watercolor in particular, this gallery by the sea is not to be missed. We also enjoyed two wonderfully prepared dinners at its restaurant overlooking the water.
The other highlight of our week was Orust Fisk, just down the street from the house and open on weekends during our stay. A selection of it’s fish, seafood, and veggies, provided us with two scrumptious dinners and several lunches, which were easy to prepare in the well equipped kitchen.
If you are looking for the perfect place to experience the wonders of the west coast of Sweden, I would highly recommend this house perched on the rocks in Stocken.
