Ah, Catalina, the one that started it all. This is the original beach cottage that Steve and Becky Harris first purchased in 1983. Although it is an older home it is still a classic design and a truly charming cottage home.
This wonderful little house is a treasure to beach life. The two bedrooms each have their own full bathroom. The east bedroom is set up as a guest room and has sleeping for 6 with two full beds and a bunk bed. The west bedroom is the master and features captivating beach front views. In between you will find the spacious living room on the beach side and the kitchen dinning room on the road side. With a front and back deck you can choose the shaded seclusion of the covered front porch or the sunny back porch perfect for laying out.
This house is set up to sleep 10 with a sleeper sofa in the living room.
Larger parties can book the neighboring home including: Bellingrath, Fountain of Youth, Point Clear A, and Point Clear B.
Special Note: Catalina receives its namesake from the famous World War II flying boat the PBY Catalina. The gulf coast has a long history of training naval airmen. The naval base in Pensacola NAS Pensacola, as it is often referred to, is about an hours drive to the east of our Catalina and is home to the largest museum of Naval Aviation in America as well as the famed Blue Angels. This beach that was once the training grounds for all of Naval Aviation is now the training ground for the best in Naval Aviation, who knows, you may be lucky enough to catch the blue angles practicing their maneuvers just a few hundred yards from your chair.

We love people of all ages, and we want everyone to enjoy our homes. However, we do require that an adult 25 years or older to reserve the home and be present at the home during your entire stay. We do not rent to anyone under the age of 25. We have no exception to this policy.
This property is one of 20 vacation properties managed by Harris Properties Management, Inc. Harris Properties started by Steve and Becky Harris in 1983 with the purchase this very home which was called 'SH 59' at the time.

This was our third year staying at the Catalina; it's my home away from home. If you're looking for resort style furnishings this is not the place for you. If you're looking for the perfect view from your window when you wake in the morning, or from your hammock on the deck (we brought a hammock)this is it. In the morning you can drink your coffee and watch the beautiful pinks and blues of the sunrise, and in the evening have a glass of wine and watch the breath-taking yellows and oranges of the sunset. The house is old and has it's quirks, but it is comfortable and has a well stocked kitchen. In case you can't tell; I highly recommend it.
We really enjoyed our stay at Catalina, very relaxing on the gulf front and still close enough to the restaurants and festivities. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 was that our stay was too short. :) Thanks.
We were not impressed with the house. The ac didn't cool the house even though I hung blankets over the windows to block out the sun (which also blocked the beautiful view). The vents on the ceilings leaked condensation on us in every room (YUCK). The doors were hard to open and close. My husband is a contractor and felt the stairs and decks were unsafe (which made me nervous all week). The beds were uncomfortable and the wifi never worked. We did fall in love with the location. We will be searching for another house in that area for our next vacation. The process from Harris Property for renting and checking in and out was very user friendly and we loved that.
The Catalina is an older property in need of a little TLC. However, it was extremely clean and was perfect for us and our 2 dogs. The door to the beach deck definitely needs to be repaired. It was a struggle to unlock and push open from the inside. This could potentially be a safety issue in the case of a fire. The kitchen was old and original but was well stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. There were a few coffee cups that were very chipped and sharp on the rim that need to be thrown out. We brought our own grill and bought fresh fish daily at Sassy Bass so we did not really use the oven or stove. The sofas were comfortable and the TV worked well. The view was amazing from every room in the house...even the bathrooms! The back deck was a great place to sit and enjoy the view. It was nice that it was completely covered so that you could even sit out in the rain and not get wet. I would suggest possibly a small table and chairs for eating out there as there are only 2 Adirondacks to sit in. The deck is plenty big to accommodate a small table and chairs. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely stay at this property again. The location was very quiet and the beach was beautiful.
My husband and I never get to get away. We both have super busy schedules. The Catalina was a wonderful, relaxing, and simple vacation rental. We woke up and went to sleep hearing the waves crash on the beach. That is how close you are to the water. It's quiet without the younger crowd right on top of you. I am definitely renting this place again next year. This was our first vacation in 3 years. Looking forward to making this place a tradition to end our summer for our couples only getaway.
We were very pleased with our stay at Catalina this past weekend. The house was very clean and there were plenty of towels/washcloths in the bathrooms. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans and any basic appliance you might need. There isn't any seasonings besides salt/pepper so just remember to bring your own. There's beach views from every room in this house ! The weather was not very good for our stay, gusty winds and mostly cloudy the whole time. We didn't see many people walking the beach during the whole weekend. We ate at Tacky Jacks & Sassy Bass on Fort Morgan and also picked up fresh seafood from S&S Seafood and Fresh Market Seafood. We liked the food better at Sassy Bass Restaurant. All in all, a good weekend getaway for our family. My one recommendation for the property owner of house would be a gate for the stairs at entrance & heading down to the beach. We had a 3 year old toddler with us and I worried that she would get away from us and fall down the stairs somehow. Just a thought for safety while sitting on the porches. Thank you for letting us rent this house for our vacation !
Arrived at Catalina for Spring Break getaway with my two children (Under 2), brother who is college age and husband. It was absolutely perfect for all of us! The large bedroom with 2 beds and a set of bunk beds made everyone comfortable to sleep at night. Then waking up super early to sit with the kids on the porch and drink my morning coffee was my absolute favorite. They were able to play on the beach all day and with a short walk to the house for the many items that come with having kids made it super convenient. Even my college age brother was happy with hanging out on the beach all day and a short drive to a few restaurants! It was a very clean house with a new couch and bedding. The tv and wifi all worked great. We had everything we needed. Thank you Harris Properties!
