Spectacularly located and enjoying panoramic views along arguably, the most beautiful stretch of Andalucian coastline, this wonderful apartment really is a jewel in the crown. The large open-plan living space features a 'glass wall' opening out onto a completely private south facing balcony equipped with table and chairs and four sun-loungers. If you like to look at the view without being in somebody else's, this apartment is perfect.

The apartment has one large double and one twin bedroom each equipped with built-in wardrobes and chests of drawers. The bathroom was recently refurbished in a contemporary style featuring marble and glass. Completely remodelled with the latest appliances in 2009, the large bright and airy kitchen enjoys views through to the sea and has plenty of workspace and all the equipment necessary to self-cater.

'El Tuhillo' is a small, exclusive development built in the traditional, low-rise, Andalucian style. The communal gardens are beautifully landscaped on the clifftop, overlooking Burriana Beach, and the newly refurbished swimming pool is open all year. It is located in a quieter neighbourhood of Nerja near the Parador Hotel, yet only a short, seven-minute stroll to the famous Balcon de Europa in the centre of town.

Nerja is a coastal town at the foot of the Almijara mountains, with a long tradition of fishing and agriculture. The fishermen still pull their nets ashore on Burriana Beach every day and fresh fish can still be bought from barrows on street corners. The weekly market attracts traders from all over the region. The town centre has a vibrant, friendly atmosphere with many lovely shops.

While Nerja bears no resemblance to the 'high-rise' holiday developments along the Costa del Sol, it is a popular tourist destination and offers all the necessary ingredients for a fantastic holiday - good road link to airport (45 minutes), a huge choice of restaurants, bars, cafes, and nightclubs, beautiful clean beaches, and lots of sunshine. A car is not necessary for a holiday in Nerja, as everywhere in town is easily accessible by foot and there are good local bus, taxi, and coach services.

Nerja is also a fantastic base for exploring Southern Spain or even travelling as far as Morocco. In the immediate locality the world-famous Nerja caves and the pretty Moorish 'white villages' are accessible by short local bus journeys. Take a coach or self drive to the Alhambra Palace in Granada or the Moorish fortifications of Solobreno or Malaga. Many local tour operators offer hiking or pony trekking trips in the mountains, diving and snorkeling trips at sea or guided tours of the famous cities and historical buildings of Andalucia.

My family has been enjoying holidays in this apartment for more than 20 years and after a long afternoon on the beach, we usually relax on the balcony listening to the waves breaking, watching the sun set and the moon rise. A bottle of fine Rioja and a small tapas of olives and Serrano ham usually revives us just enough to face a short walk to one of the many fantastic restaurants nearby.

The apartment is excellent, clean and very comfortable, almost home from home the only thing lacking was not having your own personalised items with us, it was a pity we didn't have the extra holidays available to make it a two week stay this time. The views are really superb, relaxing and therapeutic.

The beds were very comfortable, so we were able to sleep well. Unlike many places we have stayed in the owner has invested in quality branded household goods (Bosch) washer, dish washer, fridge-freezer and cooker etc all of which were immaculately clean, it's clear to see that pride is take in providing the best for holiday tenants.

Great location with fabulous views

The apartment was centrally located, stylish, well equipped and had an excellent terrace. We only used the double room but there is another good twin room, so next time we'll take our daughters! There is a lovely pool and gardens and is perfect for families or couples.

The charm of this Nerja apartment is all about situation, location and view. A rental space with a balcony, virtually sitting on top of the Atlantic, within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, grocery stores and the Balcon de Europa is truly a find.

My husband, friend and I stayed at this property during the first two weeks of April. The weather was pleasant although not suitable for the pool or ocean, Instead we read our books while basking in the sun on the very private terrace, walked the streets of the old town, 'people-watched' as we enjoyed our coffee or a meal at a sidewalk cafe and took the bus to the wonderful 'white village' of Frigiliana.

The apartment suited our needs. The kitchen is well-equipped; the management company responded quickly to questions and Vivienne was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end.

Our average age is about 70 and we had no difficulty taking the stairs to the fourth floor or walking up and down the hill to the beach although these climbs could prove to be challenging to some.

For three Canadians looking for a winter escape, this apartment and this town proved to be perfect.

Perfectly situated at a cliff in central Nerja. Spectacular view and a nice apartment.

Apartment with all amenities, nice pool area, a short walk to the restaurants (we recommend tapas at Restaurant 34) and Balcon de Europa. We travelled with two small children at 3 and 6. They specially loved the pool area and the beach lying just under the cliff by the apartment. We will be back!

El Tuhillo, a nice place to stay

We stayed a month in this apartment and really enjoyed it. Everything was perfect and we particularly enjoyed the view from the balcony. The sunrise was a treat every morning. The location is great with all the facilities around. The owner was very helpful in the preparation of our stay in Nerja. Frigiliana, Granada, Ronda, etc. are great places to visit. We had great vacation in Nerja.

We would recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a vacation in Nerja.

Ideal Getaway

This was our favorite vacation rental spanning an extended holiday around Spain. The pictures are a true representation of the apartment which we found to be clean and well furnished. However, the view from the very private large balcony was really the most impressive feature. We spent a lot of our time looking out to the beautiful unobstructed view and enjoying the soothing sounds of waves crashing onto the beach below. We wandered the narrow streets and passages of Nerja and found reasonably priced restaurants within the immediate neighborhood . Although the town has definitely been influenced by the migration of vacationing/expat UK and German sun seekers, there is still plenty of authentic Spanish & Moorish charm. We made side trips to Ronda and Frigiliana to add a little diversity. There is free parking on the street and pay parking at the end for those who don't have the patience to troll for open spots. Vivienne (owner) was great to deal with and provided hints and details that made the stay extremely comfortable. Truly a wonderful property situated in an ideal setting.
