About this property

Sunny Peaceful Log Cabin SW Exposure, Sandy Beach and Sunsets

A wonderful cedar log cabin only a few feet from the beach. Views of the islands, Foy Park and with southwest exposure you get sun all day and beautiful sunsets. The cabin was built in the 1930's and has been renovated to modern comforts.

The cabin has a great room with a wall of lake front windows, one bedroom with a lakeview window, a cozy kitchen and a bathroom with a shower. The great room has a double pull out couch. The lower level has 12' patio doors, a seating area and a bar console with mini fridge.

A firepit area is on the beach by the lake. The beach is sand and small stones. The lake bottom is hard sand with no weeds. Entry to the lake is gradual and great for young children's.

Round Lake is three miles by four miles wide and around 90 feet deep. Water visibility is high, as the lake is fed from springs from adjacent Algonquin Park. Wildlife in the area include: deer, squirrels, chipmunks, otter, beaver, ducks, loons and local habitat. The lake has been stocked with Lake Trout.

One of the finest lakes in The Ottawa Valley and by most standards the largest and most popular lake in a 60 mile radius. Killaloe is the nearest town, eight miles away were you can find a bank, grocery store, health food store, chip stand, LCBO, Hardware Store, Auto Shop, Gas Station and pharmacy. Pembroke the nearest larger town is 30 minutes away. You are about 3000 feet from Foy Provincial Park which has the nicest sand beach on the lake. It is no charge to enter the park and use the beach and hiking trails, as no camping or overnight is allowed.

Homestead at Wolf Ridge Golf Course is a 18 hole course within a 15 minute drive from the Cottage.

Visit the Wilno Kaszub Heritage Museum and you can enjoy a feast of Polish food at the Wilno Tavern.

The neighbour on the other side has 2 small outbuildings by the property line, his cottage is about 100 feet from our cottage. They are a mature couple without children and very quiet.

Pet friendly. A $75 fee is charged per pet maximum 1 pet. Please bring something to cover the furniture and beds if your pet is on the furniture.

A beautiful place to relax and unwind
What a beautiful place to relax and unwind. We had lovely sunny hot days to enjoy the lake breeze and swimming in the warm water (the sand bottom was perfect!). We and our dog enjoyed the daily walk to Foy Provincial park. Sitting in the great room or on the deck watching the lake and the sky was so refreshing!

Great log cabin and a beautiful clear lake
We had a wonderful, quiet few days here. It felt like we had the lake to ourselves. Thankfully there was A/C during the hottest days of the summer so far. The lake was fabulous, clear and calm. A nice little beach and sandy bottom. Nancy was quick to help us when we had a little trouble with the bbq. I would book this place again.

Tranquil moments
We read, we napped and we reflected on life. Our puppy Bowie learned how fun swimming can be and how cozy a fire is at night. We watched the lake for hours and gazed at the stars. We truly enjoyed the moments this place gave us. Places like this remind you to slow down and take time to pause. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Great stay!
We stayed over a weekend in September and loved our stay! WE got lucky with the weather and were able to spend the days in the water with our dogs. The cottage is as described. The bed was very comfortable and it was so nice to fall asleep listening to the waves. We would love to visit again in the summer.

Magnificent cabin
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cabin, despite the cool, damp weather. The spacious living-dining area features a large picture window with a spectacular view of Round Lake. Due to the weather, we were unable to take advantage of the beach and firepit, although we did use the canoe for a paddle along the shoreline (two kayaks are also available). The cabin was spotlessly clean, and Nancy responded immediately to a couple of questions. Highly recommended!

Away at the lake
Wonderful and quiet time on Round Lake. Cozy cottage with comfy furnishings. Great sleeps and awesome lakefront - you feel like you're on a boat with the water gently lapping on windy days/nights. Small and functional kitchen - all we needed for tasty meals and food storage. A firepit too to watch the stars. Happy walks with our dog through Foy Provincial each am. Nancy is a great host and we're glad she shared her property with us in 2020.

Rustic lakeside cottage
The location suited our needs and the water was always warm enough for an enjoyable swim. The changes in level between kitchen, living space, and bedroom were a bit tough on my old sore knees. The small kitchen counterspace was a challenge at times, and appliances had to be moved in and out, but at least they were available and of top quality. We had little difficulty whipping up meals. We will miss the sound of the waves lapping on the shore, and of course the loons calling late at night.

What a beach!
We had a fantastic week at the Beach Cabin. The cottage itself is cozy and comes with everything needed. The view from the dining room is dynamite. The beach is beautiful. The neighbours are quiet and super friendly (we only saw them twice in the week). The local towns of Killaloe (home of Beaver Tails) and Wilno (home of the best Pierogies I've ever had) are both very close and have some insta-worthy backdrops worth looking into. Obviously the main event is nature itself - and there are limitless ways to experience it in these parts. Two provincial parks on Round Lake itself, plus... Algonquin. Nancy sets you up nicely with a binder that has all the options for adventure, food, and anything else you might want.

A wonderful long weekend in June!
My partner and I stayed at Nancy's cottage for three nights in early June. We arrived around 11pm on Thursday and Nancy had been thoughtful enough to leave some lights on, so we had no problem accessing the key from the lock-box. The cottage was very clean and just as described. The weather was wonderful, so we spent most of our time lounging on the beach or eating on the deck, but we did take the canoe and kayaks out for a few adventures on Round Lake. We didn't get around to making a fire in the pit, although Nancy had been kind enough to supply some firewood. However, we did make great use of the BBQ and the many games kept inside the cottage. Our stay was just the relaxing getaway that we needed and we hope to be able to stay at Nancy's again!

Amazing, gorgeous place! :)
We were very impressed with how well the cottage was kept up. Everything was very clean and organized. The view from the front windows was absolutely incredible! Every evening we enjoyed watching the magnificent sunset from either the windows, the porch, or the beach. Every morning we enjoyed eating our breakfast looking out at the peaceful lake. Basically everything we needed was there. We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful little cottage! :)

Property was beautiful and peaceful - the description is true to the real thing!
Our family with kids and pet had a wonderful vacation here. The private beach, the stunning views and comfort of the log cabin were perfect. It is far enough removed to be serene but close enough of a drive to Algonquin to enjoy the day in the park. We have no complaints. We'd rent the cottage again.

About the host

Hosted by Nancy Gavin

Host profile image
My husband is from Texas and I am from Ottawa. We have two boys 19 and 22. We love to travel with our boys and discover new places. Round Lake is our sanctuary and we enjoy the wonderful sunsets and views from the great room. We look forward to spending our evenings around the firepit making smores, telling stories and singing camp songs. We hope you can create some family memories of your own at our cottage.

Why they chose this property

I grew up spending my summers on Round Lake. My parents retired here and most of my siblings have bought property here as well. We love the community, it is a very eclectic area. Lot of music, art and local talent. Festivals, farmers markets and fishing derbys. People here are friendly with a strong sense of community. This is your opportunity to enjoy our cottage and our lake community. We can offer all kinds of suggestions for outings in the area as well as leave a fully stocked binder of brochures and maps for you to plan your week. (or just stay at the cottage and enjoy the lake and sunsets).

What makes this property unique

The lake is always changing. Some days it is calm, others a wind comes up and the waves can be like the ocean. I find that we have very few bugs as we are on the windy side of the lake. With South West exposure you can enjoy the sun most of the day and watch the sunset in the evening. The deck is overlooking the beach and firepit area. The lake has very few boats so it is quiet. I enjoy a morning walk to Foy Provincial Park with my dog. I walk down the beach and through the hiking trail. (about 1.5 miles round trip). The park is a non operating park so usually it is empty in the mornings. It is a magical place.
