A wonderful cedar log cabin only a few feet from the beach. Views of the islands. Southwest exposure. Sun all day and beautiful sunsets. The cabin was built in the 1930's and has been renovated refinishing all the logs/pine floors and installing new windows, kitchen and bath in 2003. The fall of 2017 the cabin is going through a major renovation to include a new full basement, insulation, heat/aircondition, Drilled well for drinking water, paint, bathroom and kitchen remodel as well as new decking and landscaping. Check later in the season for updated photos.
The cabin has a great room with a wall of lake front windows, one bedroom with a lakeview picture window, a cozy kitchen and a bathroom with a shower.
A firepit area is by the lake adjacent to the cabin and surrounded by a perennial garden on one side, the lake and the cabin.
Round Lake is three miles by seven miles wide and around 90 feet deep. Water visibility is high, as the lake is fed from springs from adjacent Algonquin Park. Wildlife in the area include: deer, squirrels, chipmunks, otter, beaver, ducks, loons and local habitat. The lake has been stocked with Lake Trout.
One of the finest lakes in The Ottawa Valley and by most standards the largest and most popular lake in a 60 mile radius. Killaloe is the nearest town, eight miles away were you can find a bank, grocery store, chip stand, LCBO, Hardware Store, Auto Shop, Gas Station and pharmacy. Pembroke the nearest larger town is 30 miles away. You are about 3000 feet from Foy Provincial Park which has the nicest sand beach on the lake. It is no charge to enter the park and use the beach and hiking trails, as no camping or overnight is allowed.
Interested in Theatre? Our local group, The Stone fence Theatre has events running Summer and Fall you get live music, theatre, local food, and a true vivid color of The Valley.
Homestead at Wolf Ridge Golf Course is a 18 hole course within a 15 minute drive from the Cottage.
Visit the Wilno Kaszub Heritage Museum and you can enjoy a feast of Polish food at the Wilno Tavern.
The beach is sand and small stones. The lake bottom is hard sand with no weeds. Entry to the lake is gradual and great for young kids.

About Nancy Gavin
My husband is from Texas and I am from Ottawa. We have two boys 14 and 17. We love to travel with our boys and discover new places. Round Lake is our sanctuary and we enjoy the wonderful sunsets and views from the great room. We look forward to spending our evenings around the firepit making smores, telling stories and singing camp songs. We hope you can create some family memories of your own at our cottage.
Nancy Gavin purchased this Cottage in 2000
Why Nancy Gavin chose Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards
I grew up spending my summers on Round Lake. My parents retired here and most of my siblings have bought property here as well. We love the community, it is a very eclectic area. Lot of music, art and local talent. Festivals, farmers markets and fishing derbys. People here are friendly with a strong sense of community. This is your opportunity to enjoy our cottage and our lake community. We can offer all kinds of suggestions for outings in the area as well as leave a fully stocked binder of brochures and maps for you to plan your week. (or just stay at the cottage and enjoy the lake and sunsets).
What makes this Cottage unique
The lake is always changing. Some days it is calm, others a wind comes up and the waves can be like the ocean. I find that we have very few bugs as we are on the windy side of the lake. With South West exposure you can enjoy the sun most of the day and watch the sunset in the evening. The deck is overlooking the beach and firepit area. The lake has very few boats so it is quiet. I enjoy a morning walk to Foy Provincial Park with my dog. I walk down the beach and through the hiking trail. (about 1.5 miles round trip). The park is closed so usually it is empty in the mornings. It is a magical place.

Amazing, gorgeous place! :)
We were very impressed with how well the cottage was kept up. Everything was very clean and organized. The view from the front windows was absolutely incredible! Every evening we enjoyed watching the magnificent sunset from either the windows, the porch, or the beach. Every morning we enjoyed eating our breakfast looking out at the peaceful lake. Basically everything we needed was there. We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful little cottage! :)
Thank you for the wonderful review Kristin, I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Beach Cabin. It truly is a magical view.
Property was beautiful and peaceful - the description is true to the real thing!
Our family with kids and pet had a wonderful vacation here. The private beach, the stunning views and comfort of the log cabin were perfect. It is far enough removed to be serene but close enough of a drive to Algonquin to enjoy the day in the park. We have no complaints. We'd rent the cottage again.
My spouse and I enjoyed a 6-night getaway in late June. This was the perfect break from busy work lives. We enjoyed the absolute beauty of the lake but also the charm and simplicity of the cabin. We had no official plans so even a few days of rain were a gift. We did puzzles, read books and played games and watched the ever changing majesty of the lake. And we enjoyed also having access to the internet--so we weren't entirely cut off from civilization!
The view is epic. My spouse and our dog will swim and canoe in just about any weather so I could watch them with my bird's eye view. Short of being out on the water with them I don't know how that view could be better!
The cabin is nicely appointed--comfortable furnishings and bed. It was easy enough to adjust to bringing our own cooking/drinking water and then using the cabin water (which comes from the lake) for everything else. The cabin was perfectly clean. We happily composted all our food waste, bagged our recycling an left with the tiniest bag of trash.
We cooked meals each day. With the grill, microwave and hot plate burner you could prepare almost anything with a little planning. If we wanted for anything it was a couple of additional containers in the kitchen so we could deal with leftovers a little easier and a few more cooking utensils, like a large not-slotted spoon and ladle. But we got by just fine without. We even made bacon on the grill using a disposable roasting pan while I cooked eggs on the hot plate inside--it was awesome. If I went back, I might take my crockpot just to give me one more option for easy cooking.
We did a great hike up to Deacon's Escarpment--listed in the binder--a significant walk up but views to die for. We also trekked over to nearby Bonncherre Park. Also nice for an easy walk about.
This lake felt far off the beaten path--sounds of cars going by were notable events. There are cabins nearby. When we were there the entire area felt completely abandoned--so most of those places seemed uninhabited. I doubt we would have felt differently even if they were occupied. We also enjoyed the 'other' neighbors--all the wonderful ducks and geese on the lake...and an occasional boat sighting.
We like to always go to new places but if we were looking to repeat a getaway--this place was perfect.
Oh...our host was super easy to deal with. We didn't need planning help and ran into no problems so our interactions were limited but timely/helpful!
Thank you for the wonderful review. I have taken you suggestions and supplied the items you listed.
Im glad you were able to make the hike to the escarpment. I have enjoyed that hike since I was a child and we would go up every summer to pick blueberries.
We still do an annual hike on Thanksgiving with the extended family. Wonderful fall colour views.
This was my second time staying at this cottage. The owners are very helpfull and friendly, and provide us with everything we need and more.
Beautiful rustic cottage on an amazing lake!
Fantastic week on a quiet, restful lake
We just spent a lovely, restorative week at this beautiful cottage. The pictures really do reflect the beautiful views this cottage affords, from every room of the cottage and the deck. Because our week was so hot, we spent almost all our time on the deck under the umbrella or in the water. So nice to go into the sandy beach/bottom lake - no weeds, no squishy mud! We found the lake to be very quiet with quiet neighbours and not a lot of boat traffic even on a busy long weekend. The cottage itself was very well stocked, making it easy to prepare meals, clean/tidy up etc. We loved having the fire pit and cooked some meals over wood fire on a grill we brought for the purpose (sooo good!). Easy trip into Pembroke or Killaloe for supplies and distractions. Nancy has put together an excellent binder with wealth of ideas for things to do in the area. We would love to spend another vacation here - it has everything we want! Thank you for sharing this lovely place.
Peaceful cabin for the prefect getaway
Great chalet for a peaceful getaway. Very quiet area which is great. We loved the tranquillity. Whether you are dining indoors or out the view of the lake is spectacular.
You can enjoy swimming right from the cabin or canoe 10 minutes away to a cute little white sand beach.
The place was very clean when we arrived and we thought the welcome binder was a great touch. Many activities within an hours drive. From rafting to hiking to fishing and the caves.
I would definitely recommend it to any couple looking for a quiet getaway. There are 2 corner stores in town and I would definitely recommend the one that is a little further (3 minutes further) much better service and area info.
We can't wait to go back again next year.
