YOUR BLISS IN PARADISE

Our condo is situated so close to the ocean that when you first open the door, it seems as though you could dive right in. So close in fact that your favorite pastime might just be kicking back on the lanai, relaxing to the soothing sound of the surf, and enjoying some of the most scenic vistas Hawaii has to offer!

Here you can view marine life right from our lanai, including humpback whales in season and sea turtles frolicking directly in front of the property year round. You can also enjoy easy access to swimming or snorkeling right in front of the property via the adjoining beach, or just relax by the oceanfront pool and revel in the scenic views of Molokai and Lanai right offshore.

Our recently remodeled condo continues the tropical ambiance indoors through the extensive use of bamboo materials, porcelain "travertine" tile floors, tropical themed ceiling fans and fixtures, and louvered doors. As a second floor end unit with vaulted ceilings, it also affords its occupants with an abundance of natural light and ventilation.

The remodeled kitchen features granite countertops, custom maple cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and an ultra quiet dishwasher, and is fully equipped for when you would rather dine in.

Our living room and kitchen feature a direct view of the Ocean and the island of Molokai, which is all the more grand once you step out onto our balcony, or "lanai" as we say in Hawaii.

In the bedroom, you will find a new Cal King-Sized Bed and 100% Organic Cotton Blackout Curtains, and in our newly remodeled bathroom, a walk in shower and high quality fixtures.

Extra sleeping accommodations in the living room include your choice of two Twin-sized Murphy beds or a Punee (daybed).

For your entertainment, there's a 32" LCD Flat Screen TV, Blu-Ray Disc Player, iPhone/iPod compatible stereo, and free wireless internet access.

To minimize its impact on the environment, our unit is equipped with a solar attic fan, tank-less water heater, energy star appliances, and energy efficient lighting and ceiling fans.

LOCATION:

Our condo is conveniently located midway between the Ka'anapali and Kapalua resort areas, just a 10-15 minute drive from most any West Maui attraction. On foot, it is just one minute away from the Honokowai Farmer's Market, organic food store and neighborhood coffee shop, and just a few minutes from many more restaurants and shops. And right next door is Honokowai Beach Park, an expansive open space featuring a recently upgraded playground area and shallow tide pools, perfect for the little ones.

What makes this condo unique

Our oceanfront pool allows our guests to swim and soak up the sun while enjoying views of Molokai and Lanai, while our oceanfront Barbecues allow them to enjoy scenic sunsets over or between the same islands year round while preparing dinner. Our property also adjoins a small beach that provides easy access to the reefs directly in front of the pool area.

The condo at Hale Kai was fantastic! The location was perfect and centrally located to everything we wanted to do. The view from the lanai was amazing and the bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable. You are just a few feet from the pool and the beach is just beyond that. It truly was a wonderful experience and a place we will definitely stay at again.

We absolutely loved our stay at Hale Kai #213. The view was incredible and everything described on the website was spot on. The pool was not crowded, the beach was beautiful and it was really neat to see the sea turtles hanging out in the ocean. The people in the management office were super helpful and kind, and the other guests that we met were really nice and shared vacation tips with us. There is a great coffee shop and farmers market within walking distance, and it is close to Lahaina and Kaanapali beach. The location is perfect. We will definitely be staying here again.

Absolutely loved this condo rental. Amazing ocean views and spent most evenings on the Lanai watching the sunset over the water. Exactly like the pictures - very clean, good amount of space (was just two of us) and had all the kitchenware we needed (would need to bring your own condiments though). Pool area was nice and quiet when we were there and lovely small sandy beach right beside where we saw turtles on our last day. Grocery store and beach equipment rental just across the road. Road traffic can be heard from bedroom so bring earplugs if light sleeper and like to lie-in (wasn't an issue for us). Valerie in the office was very responsive on pre trip emails and a great help when we were there. Looking forward to staying again when we next make it back to Maui.

The noise from the road can be an issue for people who want to sleep in, but we find that most guests wake up early with the time change, and want to get up and make the most of their limited time in Hawaii. Disappointed in quality and noise

I'll start with the positives:

- the view from the lanai of the ocean was beautiful

- the location had good proximity to a coffee shop and the best fish market in Maui

- our booking had to change due to flight changes, they were flexible with our schedule and late checkout

Negatives:

Immediately upon arriving I wanted to leave. Everything felt dirty. The doors and windows were coated in dirt and grime. We immediately went to the lanai to see the view, and there were dead cockroaches on the patio and who knows where else. The furniture out there was poor quality and the indoor furniture was even worse. Couldn't sit comfortably on the sofa or chair. Our children (6 and 8 years old) were planned to sleep on the Murphy beds. We pulled them down, and the mattress pads were stained and dirty looking. Additionally, there was only a flat and fitted sheet provided for their bedding. We could not find pillows or blankets for our children to sleep with, and with the office closed on Sundays, we didn't have an option to get them from the office. So I had to cover them with the towels and use couch pillows for sleep. We had a difficult time getting the TV to work for a DVD for the kids to watch and had to use wet wipes to clean off the remotes because they were oily to touch.

The bathroom was tiny and difficult to keep our items in there in the very small cabinet. There were barely enough towels to use for a week's stay for 4 people, and the beach towels (I think that's what they were deeming the beach towels) were not the size, thickness or quality we'd expect to use at the beach. All of the linens were cheap quality.

Because this was an open-air condo, the windows and doors have tilting slats. Only half seemed to actually work, and many very difficult to use. Between the noise from the road (only about 8 car spaces from the main road to our door) and the noise from the ocean, we had a hard time sleeping. Additionally, not the fault of the owners, but there was a crying child ALL night long across the walkway. Without being able to solidly close windows, that ruined our sleep. You can hear everything from the neighbors. The kitchen was minimally stocked, and the management office, though they tried, wasn't equipped to be able to resolve the issues while we were there. We have been home over a week, and there was zero follow up from the office or owners to address the experience. We checked into a new place after staying two nights.

Owner's Response: Aloha Mark, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. In the nearly eight years that we have owned Hale Kai # 213, yours is the first negative review that we've ever received. I guess it proves the old adage that you can't please everyone all of the time. I understand that the office offered to address your concerns but that you chose to leave instead. Of course, there's not much that can be done at that point to satisfy you other than offer you a refund, so I'll instead just address your feedback for the benefit of future prospective guests. Maui's blowing red dirt combined with our oceanfront location can at times make keeping units clean quite a challenge. To address this, the office periodically arranges for the unit to be deep cleaned, and this just took place on April 30. Prospective guests should also know that our complex is treated on a regular basis for all manner of pests, but that a 100% pest free experience is not possible in a tropical environment. Mattress pads are changed as part of each cleaning. All of the mattresses in our unit are also fully encased to protect against any sort of infestation. Additional blankets and pillows can be found in the linen closet located in the bedroom. Regarding the bathroom, there's a medicine cabinet above the pedestal sink and a cabinet above the toilet. There are sufficient towels and racks for up to four guests, but no maid service, so guests have to launder these towels on their own during their stay. As is common in Hawaii, our unit has louvered windows to facilitate natural cooling and ventilation, but some of these windows no longer snap completely shut. The new owner reportedly intends to address this, (the unit currently being in escrow). I would agree that the noise from the road is sometimes noticeable in the bedroom, especially if the louvered windows have been left open during the night, a common condition along the "Lower" Road. I suspect the area remains popular though since most guests wake up early with the time change and since they want to make the most of their time in Hawaii instead of sleeping in. As to the lanai furniture, there is one chaise that should be replaced but I'll have to leave that to the new owner to consider. We've never claimed to offer the fanciest accommodations, just a very good value. Prospective guests need only read the reviews of our many satisfied guests over the years to realize this is the case. Mahalo, The Mathews Hale Kai # 213
