Why Mimi Schade chose Narbonne

Narbonne is a wonderful small city whose centre- ville resembles Paris in many ways. It has a beautiful town center with a cathedral and anthropological museum. And at Christmas, it sparkles with lights and small individual trees along the canal.

What makes this apartment unique

Narbonne is uniquely located. It is 20 minutes from a family ocean beach and less than an hour from a ski resort in the Pyrenees. It is a 15 minute walk to the train station where the fast train (TGV) arrives from Paris and Barcelona. It is surrounded by towns with history from the Roman times through to today.

Let's Keep It A Secret!!

At the risk of making the apartment overlooking the Canal du Robine and the Promenade des Barques so popular that we’ll never be able to get a booking there again, we are not going to share many positive impressions of our 10 day stay . We hesitate to say anything about the central location, the proximity of restaurants and museums nor the wealth of information available at the Office of Tourism.

For days we never even thought about taking our rental car out of the convenient parking garage across the canal that is included in the apartment rental. There are just far too many things to do and see without a car at all. Many of the locals get around on bicycles. We did note that bike rentals are a possibility there.

We’d prefer not to mention the nearby interesting places to visit - Bezier, Gruissan and Carcassonne - especially off season when the tourist crowds have all gone to where they belong.

Interested in history??? Don’t go!

We missed taking the sight seeing Yellow Train from Perpignan up to the Pyrenees as a day trip because we became just too comfortable in the 2nd étage apartment, with 12 foot ceilings, a very bright living-dining area, three full length doors opening onto a balcony just wide enough for a couple of chairs and a small round table. Others may not find very interesting watching the diners at the tables below those windows or the experience possible on Thursdays and Sundays when the open market comes to town and venders open their tents a few feet away.. And probably no one else would likely get a chuckle looking down into a shower sized “dressing room” when a middle aged woman reveals her bright red underwear to try on something from the nearby racks

Some may see a drawback to the location above En Face restaurant and right on a busy promenade because of the noise below on week ends. But the two bedrooms and two full baths towards the rear of the apartment solved that concern.

A Spar and the Monoprix are so close by there is no need to even suggest where supplies might be sought.

Oh, and the weather! That we cannot guarantee: beautiful days, little rain and comfortable sweater temperatures in October.

We feel it’s important to say only negative things about this apartment. We want to book again; we don’t want to ruin any chances of open dates.

We just loved it. Even nicer than the photos, itil is very spacious, modern and comfortable

It has everything one would need. And the location on the beautiful Canal du Robine is ideal. Christophe was also very welcoming and helpful.

Second Stay at This Fantastic Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We stayed again at this wonderfully well appointed apartment in Narbonne. The location is great for exploring Southwestern France and the underground parking is a huge plus. Lots of great restaurants and a lovely food market and shops all within walking distance from the apartment. Very comfortable, well equipped, spacious, great lighting and views of the plane trees and canal. Would highly recommend it.

Wonderful vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent 2 wonderful weeks visiting the Languedoc-Roussillon area with Narbonne as our base. This apartment is very spacious, comfortable, very well equipped, high spec furnishings and fittings and (most significantly) very well located for touring this part of France. We would highly recommend it.

Plenty of quality restaurants within walking distance (our favourite was Le Coq Hardi while we felt Le Grand Buffet was over-hyped) and we would also recommend travelling to nearby Gruissan where there are some v nice restaurants (Plan B and L Ete Indien were both lovely and there is a cafe that sells Gelato that I can also recommend, and I know my Gelato) and the atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable.

Highlights/recommendations for visiting

Lagrasse, Minerve, Roquebrun and we also drove to Villefrance-de-Conflent and continued to Mont-Luis (didn't bother with the "yellow train") which is a hugely enjoyable drive. On the return journey, just off the N116 there is a "gorge" where you can choose from a number of set walking routes that I would also recommend however the name escapes me but it is well signposted with a carpark and other facilities.

Carcassone is wonderful but try and be there for 9.30ish to avoid the crowds, ditto Montpellier to avoid the midday temperatures. If visiting Montpellier I would suggest parking in the car parks located at the outskirts of the city and getting the train to the city center.

A really wonderful drive (approx 2/3 hours depending on stops) is Villerouge-Termenes to Mouthoumet to St martin des Puits. Road is narrow in places but very little traffic and gorgeous views/villages. Highly recommended.

Les Halles market is a fantastic option literally on the door step however we found the fruit sold by the stalls located on the approach roads to Narbonne to be fresher and better value, nice guy selling fruit/veg on the way back from Narbonne plage.

Thanks Mimi, Mark and Julie for a wonderful holiday.

Exceeded our Expectations

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic, well appointed spacious apartment in ideal location across from Les Halles market made for a most enjoyable stay in Narbonne!! Free parking space is a great added benefit. Would definitely recommend this property and keep it in mind for my next visit to Languedoc-Roussillon.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here twice in the last few years and can not imagine a better location for enjoying Narbonne. Large modern rooms with late 19th century details left intact.

The community has done a great job in making the surrounding canal area easy to walk & very clean. Indoor daily market is just across a small bridge and many, many very good restaurants in easy walking distance.

Very convenient underground parking.

Wish we could spend more time in Narbonne.

Mimi is an easy person to deal with & we highly recommend this property.

Not for folks that can't do a few flights of stairs. However, we always are better at the stairs after a few days of using them. We both have bad knees & are overweight but will rent again if we get the chance.
