Awesome View!

  • 5 of 5

The Ponderosa was amazing! The pictures do not do it justice. We had a group of 13 ages ranging from 4 months to 82 years young. It was a wonderful place to come back to in the evenings after a full day of adventure in the Black Hills. Everyone especially enjoyed the hot tub and view from the back deck. The house had every accommodation we needed. I would recommend this place from anyone wanting to get away from it all! There is limited cell phone coverage and no WiFi, but when you have beautiful outdoor views who needs it! We were also impressed that we never ran out of hot water when everyone took showers in the morning! The people at Heart of the Hills Vacation homes are easy to get a hold of and work with. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Crystal, Thank you for taking the time to write such a heart felt review for the Ponderosa. It truly is a place to get away from all the demands of cell phones and the internet. However, some guests do report good cell service at certain 'spots" of the home and free internet is available many places in the near by towns of Custer or Hill City. The Ponderosa has a "twin" cabin, the Aspen for larger groups who wish to rent both cabins together. Marcia

Loved the seclusion!

We absolutely loved our time at your cabins! We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful mornings watching the sunrise and seeing the deer and other animals and birds! It was centrally located so going sightseeing was easy and then we could go back to the peace and quiet. Thank you so much for everything!

Definitely coming back!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a GREAT time renting the Aspen and Ponderosa! Both cabins were clean and just as described! The peaceful setting was the perfect place to end a busy day, and the view was to die for! :D

Also, the communication before our stay was second to none! Every phone call and email was answered with a smile ... yes, even the emails ;)

Thank you so much! We will definitely be back!

family of 19

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience with the 2 vacation homes in Custer for our family of 19. We came from CA, MA, and NE so this was a perfect spot to meet. We loved that the homes were off by themselves in beautiful, peaceful surroundings and to tell you the truth, with 11 grandchildren including 7 teens we were a noisy bunch. The hills were alive with the sound of music literally. The listing description was accurate including the photos. The houses were clean and well maintained and well stocked with plenty of towels, oaoer goods, dishes, pots and pans, etc. The rental agency was very helpful in answering our questions. Our youngest son from Omaha had been in the area before so he was our tour guide. We went to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse for their night lighting shows, loved Custer state park, Sylvan Lake, Needles HIghway, Jewel caves and a hike to the tallest peak in SD. All were great. The only downsides were the 6 mile drive on dirt roads to the cabins and the lack of a field to play outdoor games like ultimate frisbee on the property. All in all though, this was a great place to stay and we would highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for a complete review of these two properties. It has been a great location for large families who gather from different directions/States. I do want to clarify one statement. The road to the cabins is a well maintained gravel road, not a dirt road. There are many other homes along the miles of gravel who rely on good roads for access to their properties as well.
