The sun has set and you are catching up with old friends around the fire. You realize that it has gotten quite dark beyond the warm glow of the screened-in veranda. A bracing, mountain breeze arrests your attention and you realize that the wild forest is right there, meters from your warm and safe shelter. You are minutes from the freeway and you have AC, Starlink: all of the modern comforts. But you are on the edge of the dark forest and you feel something ancient calling you to exploration. This neighborhood is a perfect blend of easy access and wilderness feel. Located at the end of a paved road with only one neighbor. There is a restaurant/bar within a two minute drive and a large gas station/travel center 3 miles away.Essentials

This property is really quite hard to rate. On the one hand, the location and privacy were just what we wanted. We were here to hike and be left in peace, and we loved the woods and privacy. The home itself is really big! Much bigger than I was expecting from the description! Plenty of room to spread out and bring lots of gear (which we did!) We loved the huntsman's theme and all the elk touches. It was nice to have two bathrooms, and the kitchen had most of the essentials.On the other hand, cleanliness was really an issue. I get that it's an old house and that old houses come with character and a few quirks. We could laugh off the truly terrible showerheads. But the dishwasher doesn't really clean anything, so we rewashed most of the dishes by hand every time we emptied it (and we're a family - we ran it four times!). The place was definitely politely clean, but not squeaky clean. So adjust your expectations accordingly. The worst thing was the smell. This place has a wood-burning stove and even though we stayed here in July the house has a very strong stale smoke odor. The smell came home with us and we rewashed all of our clothes in every single suitcase after we got home to get rid of it. Do I regret coming? No. We have good memories of our stay. Will I come again? Unlikely.

Sorry to hear you won’t be coming back. We did get feedback from other guests that the dishwasher wasn’t working properly and we have had it replaced. The cabin is in the woods and does have a woodsy smell to it. We supply the cabin with some air fresheners under the kitchen sink for guests to use during their stay.
