About Jean Johnston

This beautiful area was the inspiration for my artist/sculptor husband. It also was the perfect place to rear our 3 children.

My days almost always begin with a walk on our 2+ miles of uncrowded beach.

Now that our children are grown I have time to pursue my passion, going to gem shows and creating jewelry from my unique finds.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

This home is set back from the highway and located on 3 acres surrounded by pasture land. Follow the paved driveway around to the back of the house and you will find a 1 car garage, a ramp to the back door for easy access and plenty of parking for your cars, boat or RV.

You will also find a secluded yard with a BBQ and comfortable chairs for relaxing.

Watch for deer, herds of elk and covies of quail. You can also enjoy a variety of colorful birds that come to the feeders. (Bird food provided.)

In late August the blackberry vines are hanging with juicy berries. They make delicious cobblers. Bring jars if you like to make jam.

The perfect place for a family reunion!

  • 5 of 5

Jean's house across from the ocean was everything I had hoped it would be. It was large with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, a great room upstairs with a view of the sea and wall to wall carpeting on which our little boys could run on and play and plenty of chairs for the adults to sit in and talk. We were nine, and there was room for us all. Proximity to the ocean was great. We couldn't have been happier.

Awesome vacation home

  • 5 of 5

My extended family of 5 stayed for 5 days, plenty of room for everyone ! Fully functioning kitchen, large clean bathrooms, plenty of towels, comfy beds. Close to towns, Redwoods, places to visit & things to do. I highly recommend this home. A couple of things I wish I would have known, we love our technology & my daughter had planned to get some work done, but wifi is very poor & slow. Cell service is very minimal. Also a lot of stairs to upstairs family room, & it gets quite warm up there. But also the upstairs family room was the favorite place to be !

Owner's Response: Living in the country has it's advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage is only Hughes satellite internet is available. They have just come out with Gen 5. I have arranged to have this installed. Hopefully it will be faster. Jean

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

Just a few minutes to Brookings, or a few more to Crescent City. Beach access just across the way. Home large enough for everyone to spread out. Had everything we needed. Thanks!

Very stuffy smelling and dusty.

  • 2 of 5

We were 9 people there the first evening and 4 of us got up sick. I had to go to acute care in Brookings-Harbor. It was very musty smelling, we opened up all the windows we could upon arrival. I don't know if it was mold or what. Three with allergies and asthma were not feeling well, and because of my age the acute care Dr. prescribed an antibiotic.

Things were not dusted in months. Lots of cobwebs hanging around.

Beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels provided. Kitchen well stocked.

Two people decided not to stay and rented a motel room.

This was the perfect place for kids. Large green yard, large house, all around great home.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was lovely, the price was fantastic, the beach so close and everything we needed was available at the house. Especially appreciated the lovely laundry room. Great vacation! Sugar ants were annoying.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your vacation. Sugar ants are annoying and they seem to send their scouts out every spring. Sorry. They have been eliminated. Jean

Perfect place for my family. 😀

  • 4 of 5

Such a sweet place, nestled off the highway with ocean across 101 and trees behind and plenty of room to play inside and out. Little tricky getting all of us over the highway and down to the beach, but it was worth it. Great clam chowder and sea food down by the port in Bookings. Not much right in town . Close to the Redwood National Forrest. Stout Grove is where they filmed part of the Return of The Jedi Star Wars movie. Grandkids had a great time. Those trees are breathtaking💁 We had a wonderful time!🌻
