It was a GREAT everything. It’s such a unique, comfortable and beautiful place. This was our second time to stay here and we love it. I hope our next stay can be longer.
Becky has created a most memorable experience at the Super Chief. I read many previous visitors comments about the sunsets at the Super Chief and it did not disappoint. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief visit on our way to New Mexico. Thanks again Becky for your hospitality!!
This was our second time staying at Big Chief, and we honestly couldn't love it more. The surrounding land is gorgeous, complete with grand sunsets, horses, and baby donkeys! Our dogs love watching the other animals from the fenced area while we have our coffee in the Adirondack rockers. Well-stocked and efficiently arranged, Big Chief is cute and comfy. Thoughtful touches like a multi-device charging station and tasty snacks put this place over the top. We will definitely be back!
Absolutely perfect spot to enjoy Palo Duro Canyon and close enough grab something to eat in Canyon. Picturesque views of frolicking horses and gentle donkeys. Great get away for peace away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Host gave excellent details, provided snacks and drinks. Very responsive. Top notch host!
Super Chief was the perfect place for our overnight stay as we were here for a wedding at Palo Duro. The place was immaculate and well organized. The pastoral setting was so nice compared to the chaos of a large city. It was nice to have the snack basket after the day’s drive. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Becky thinks of everything for your stay. The location is absolutely beautiful and very close to town while still being in the country. We will be staying here again without a doubt!
The location was top tier Texas farm living. The horses, donkeys and dogs were all friendly. The Chief caboose was just like the pictures. The sunset, moon and stars were simply amazing. The host was accommodating and gave a great alternate route back to Dallas that was much better than the major highways. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a unique stay.
Such a cool & unique boxcar!Great hospitality & detail … the extras were great! Excellent location!Host friendly & attentive … will definitely share with fam& friends!
Well appointed, clean and cozy! Host was easy to communicate with and responded quickly. Pinning this stay to our favorites for future bookings! Easy drive to Palo Duro Canyon and the town of Canyon.

Great place to stay and explore the area. Had everything we needed to be comfortable and enjoy our stay. Really enjoyed the skylights over the bed to see the stars at night!
Our short time in the Super Chief was absolutely delightful! It was the perfect wind-down to a long road trip and capped off a day spent hiking in the Canyon. We enjoyed a beautiful Texas sunset with a sweet pup, and were greeted with a gorgeous sunrise upon departure. I wish our time had been longer but I can’t wait to come back to stay again and to explore the Canyon even more. It’s like Texas’ best kept secret! Our host was wonderfully responsive, and the property was even better than the description.

Such a cool little place, and lots of thoughtful touches like snacks and necessities. The host was great and even gave us local dining suggestions. Great view of the sunset from the porch. I would definitely stay again.
The Super Chief was a great place to stay on our way up to Colorado. It is well equipped and comfortable. We loved the patio with an excellent view of the sunset.
We LOVED our stay at the railcar! This was a fantastic find and perfect for our family of 4. My boys (kids) loved that we were staying somewhere different than a hotel. Our host was very responsive and welcoming! We will definitely stay here next time we are in the area.
This was a stunning little extremely comfortable 1 bedroom to stay in. It was easy to find and access, the hosts were extremely responsive and positive. Somehow they built this so that every space feels both cozy and spacious at the same time. We just sat on the sofa and looked at the landscape until the sun went down, then we moved to the deck chairs and stared at the stars. We were looking for something quiet- to get away from the city. This was perfect, the nearest neighbors were the RV park and we heard nothing from them. There are a few nearby houses, but what we mostly heard was the Donkeys, horses and birds. It was an ideal base to be able to explore Palo Duro Canyon, Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Canyon, Amarillo and Vega. We didn't bring pets but the canine hosts were friendly and it's obviously set up for those who do bring dogs. Highly recommend this place for a quiet peaceful escape.

About the host
Hosted by Becky Meyring
After 20 + years of pharmaceutical sales in the Texas Panhandle and then 10 years managing an equestrian facility in Colorado, I retired and moved back to Texas. I love remodeling old buildings, so when the opportunity to buy SC came along, I jumped on it. SC may be my favorite so far. I also raise a few horses, try and show reining horses when I can and I love pretty much all dogs.
Why they chose this property
The Super Chief was a streamlined passenger train operated by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway from Chicago, Ill to Los Angeles, CA from 1938 to 1971. Super Chief leaves behind a legacy of being a luxurious, efficient passenger lines to cross the western plains. As I renovated this refrigerated boxcar, I wanted to keep that legacy alive and create a space that combines the spirit of the west with modern day conveniences.
Guests are welcome to pet horses and donkeys if and when they come up to the fence. I would appreciate it if you didn't cross into their pasture though.
The property is in the "country" so to speak. There are horses and donkeys in the pasture. 4 dogs live here as well. They are all very friendly. More often than not, they will watch you drive in and then go back to taking their naps at the house. Horney toads, lizards and a random snake may appear from time to time in the summer. You may hear the occasional coyote howling at night in the distance.
What makes this property unique
SC is approximately 11 miles from the Palo Duro Canyon State Park. It is just 2 miles from I27 that runs from Amarillo to Lubbock, TX and is 4.5 miles from West Texas A&M University. EC sits on eastern edge of 70 acres were you will likely see several horses and miniature donkeys out grazing. Although, most of the Texas Panhandle is not known for its scenery, if you look west in the evenings you are sure to catch a beautiful sunset that stretches on and on.
There is ample parking in front of the boxcar after you pull in driveway.
