FAQ's About Our Home
1. Is it close to the ocean? We are about 200 yards from the beach as the crow flies from our rooftop. The beach is Puerto Juarez which is the original Cancun Beach before the Hotel Zone ever existed. It is the polar opposite of the glitz of the tourist area. It still has the innocent charm of a small fishing village with a lovely public beach which is usually filled with locals rather then tourists (see pics). My favorite restaurant is there - Kulkukan - right on the water which serves margaritas that you simply can't get in the hotel zone right under two big palapas right on the beach.
Literally a two minute drive from our house, at the beginning of Puerto Juarez beach is the Ultramar Ferry which for 8 dollars takes you to our favorite island, Isla Mujeres, which is the reason why we bought in our neighborhood. It's a great island with a amazing beaches, tourist shops, restaurants, bars and - my favorite - fantastic inexpensive massages right on the beach. You can rent a scooter or golf cart and tool around the island on golf carts and scooters. A blast!
2. Is it safe? Completely safe. Our home is in a gated and guarded community which has guard service 24 /7. Look up the location on google maps or Google earth to get an idea of where we are. Search "Cuenca, Bahia Azul, Cancun".
3. How does the airport pickup/dropoff work?
Tranquility House offers our TOTAL CARE PACKAGE which we give as a free service to ALL of our guests!
Guests of Tranquility House are treated as guests in our own home. We will pick you up at the airport when you arrive and drop you off at the airport when you depart free of charge (one group only please back and forth. If your group's arrival is staggered we can arrange other pick ups but your party will have to pay for the additional trips, so use your largest group arrival for the pick up.) Scott, our on-site property manager, will meet you at the home when you arrive. He is amazingly helpful (see our reviews). He also is well connected to the travel industry and so has been able to secure great rental cars and vans for small or large groups (we do not take a commission for this - this is just part of our service), help with finding tours etc.
After your arrival, Scott will take you for a tour of the area so you know how to get around town. We will show you the best Hotel Zone beaches, bars, grocery stores, gas stations, the Isla Mujeres Ferry (only a two minute drive away) etc. He can help you get tickets to all of the tourist destinations...and he lives right in the neighborhood if you need anything.
4. Should we rent a car or van? Is it hard to get around town?
It used to be very difficult to get around if you didn't know your way through Cancun's streets. GPS and Uber have completely transformed a foreigner's experience in Cancun now! I just changed this FAQ in June of 2017. I usually answered that I always rent a car because it is just easier to get around. Now it is just the opposite. I just spent 17 days in my home doing tons of upgrades which meant trips all over town. I went to the hotel zone several times, Home Depot, Puerto Juarez, the bus station, took the bus to Tulum, Playa del Carmen, etc. I spent about $150 total on Uber's and the bus and the experience was so easy. Cancun is now perfectly mapped out on GPS which is huge because the majority of the city was built very spontaneously so it is very confusing at first.
With Uber you don't have to worry about paying in pesos since it just comes directly off the credit card in the Uber system. You don't even have to communicate where you want to go since you set that up beforehand. You don't have to worry that a cab driver will overcharge you just because you are a gringo since the Uber system sets the prices and the GPS in Uber is perfect! Everything was also MUCH cheaper. I went to the hotel zone and the cost was literally a third to a half of the usual cost of a regular taxi which was already cheap. Around town, I almost feel bad it's so cheap!
We are a hop, skip and a jump to the Cancun bus station. These busses will get you to anywhere for incredibly cheap. We went to Tulum on this last trip and paid $6 - it's like a two hour drive. And the bussus were SO niiiice! Brand new....air conditioned.
If you have a huge group and just don't want to split the group to ride in several Ubers at a time I can understand renting a car or van. Otherwise, forget the car...save the dough to eat at cool places or go on excursions.
5. Is there food and groceries close? Yes, Scott will make sure you get to the grocery store. Remember, however, that this home is in a real Cancun neighborhood. It is not in a resort. There is a small local restaurant outside our gate which serves local fare and is very good and inexpensive. Puerto Juarez is down the street with restaurants, but in general you will need to grab a cab, at least, if you plan to eat out. There's lots of suggestions Scott can give you.
Everything about this luxury large group or multi-family 5 bedroom property feels like the perfect location for a Cancun Vacation. Our daily rate is only $240 and up A NIGHT ($250 12/19-1/8 and $240 between 3/1-4/5)... an amazing bargain as a jump off point to the Hotel Zone, Isla Mujeres, Downtown Cancun, and an easy link to Bon-Am-Pok, the road to the Riviera Maya hotspots like Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Chichen Itza and other Mayan Ruins.
1. This five bedroom home is a five minute drive to the beginning of the Hotel Zone.
2. Two minute drive (ten minute walk) to the Isla Mujeres Ferry on Puerto Juarez...the original Cancun.
3. Seven minute drive to the downtown Yachitlan restaurants and bars.
4. Five minute drive to the bus station if you want someone else to drive you to vacation hotspots..

About Michael Yannette
I am thrilled to be able to offer this property for many to enjoy! I am a pianist and teacher and produce performances of all kinds including theater works where I perform in character as famous composers. Check out a few links of my YouTube performances of Gershwin and Scriabin. Just search 'Michael Yannette' and either of those two composers names. Unfortunately, I don't get to visit my little paradise nearly as much as I would like but I hope to spend more time here as the years go by.
Michael Yannette purchased this House in 2005
Why Michael Yannette chose Cancún
In 2005, I took a year long sabbatical and spent some of my time in Cancun. A friend of a friend told me about this little gated community of Bahia Azul. Sixty percent of the development had already been built when I visited it for the first time. Throughout the home, the breeze filled the space with the most incredible feeling. There was a remarkable brick lined cupola - something that I simply had never seen before in the states. The space was open and airy and was well constructed to keep the space cool. But when I got to the rooftop I was absolutely overwhelmed - the ocean views were gorgeous. You could see Isla Mujeres in the distance and THAT BREEZE - INTOXICATING!!! I bought the property pre-construction within the week. Within one month of my purchase, Hurricane Wilma hit Cancun. I was still living here and endured three terrifying days of that horrible Cat 4-5 storm that stalled over the city. When the storm was over Cancun was devastated! It would be three years before construction finally would begin again. All of the construction workers had moved to the hotel zone. The home finally was completed in 2011 and morphed into something that was completely unique in the development. We had an inspiration to add another floor, raise the terrace and add the incredible circular palapa and 'Crow's Nest' with a Bar/BBQ and gorgeous Panamanian hammocks and the result is the most unique property in the development - none other like it - with much more space and custom features. Some things are worth the wait! I am thrilled with the result. ...just wish I could spend more time there. You'll have to enjoy it for me!
What makes this House unique
I can honestly say I rather be relaxing in one of the hammocks on my rooftop than perhaps anywhere in the world. The terrace is not actually directly on the water like the hotels in the hotel zone but it has a feeling that is so much more private and intimate. It's so quiet up there! It towers above everything and has an incredible 360 view of everything...sunrises and sunsets, the golf course next door, Isla Mujeres, the ocean and hotel zone hotels in the distance. For a change of pace I relax in the hot whirlpool. I really enjoy it when my 26 year old son comes down with his girlfriend or when other family members come to visit because we are big gamers! We are a board game family so we junk out on games on the game table - a unique little Cancun creation of a circular table with 'pie piece' chairs that fit underneath it. The best part of it is playing games while we watch a Blue Ray on the GRANDE LCD screen and make some munchies in the kitchen. That entire space in on the same floor so it makes being together really easy and fun! If I want some alone time I hide out in my master room which is huge and watch one of the smaller TV's while lounging in the bed. The master is a great space because the entire front of the room is lined with windows so the light is wonderful. Every room in the house has its own mini-split AC so everyone can adjust the AC to their own taste. I went all out when purchasing the beds and bedding. One of the great things about being on vacation and hosting others is feeling like someone can really rest - the beds are very high quality Posturepedic beds with cozy high thread count sheets. I actually SLEEP when I come to Cancun when I really need to rest! And last but not least, after dreaming about that beautiful brick lined dome cupola for years, I finally built one into the top of the stairwell leading to the terrace. It has a great Spanish chandelier hanging from it and makes me smile every time I pass it leading to my hammock!

Wonderful stay in Cancun
Great place to use as a base while in Cancun. Scott and Laura was wonderful
Brilliant but the description needs tweaking
I want to write an honest review and we had a fantastic time but the villa description needs tweaking and the villa needs a little maintenance on it.
It is described as luxury, it is NOT luxury, it is a lovely villa set in a very typical Mexican residential area. There are many dogs wandering the complex and howl at 07.00 am although you do get used to the early alarm clock! The upstairs sky terrace has lights missing so we could not enjoy it after dark and the door does not lock and being as there is no safe within the villa this could be a problem, saying that the terrace is four floors up! There is no dishwasher but items from previous guests are left so it has cleaning items which is a big help as the local shops are very sparse. Walmart is a short taxi drive away and is roughly 40 pesos but to get a taxi back is 80 pesos as the drivers have to pay a small fee to be waiting within the shopping centre grounds, again this is no problem. The manual inside the villa or Scott states that the nearest beach is 400 metres or a 12 minute walk, this is in fact, a very local beach and the sea cannot be swam in due to local boats being around and it is about a 30 'min walk and the walk is on a main road. The manual states that you can use the hotel beaches by the hotel zone and use the pool etc. On arrival to the hotel advertised, We were told that this was not possible but obviously they could not stop us using the beach but we were not allowed to use the hotel pools and bar which actually makes sense really. If you choose this villa, which is lovely, please hire a car as it will make life a lot easier for everyone. We were a party of 11 so taxis and Uber's were a pain to organise. The taxi AP advertised in the manual was not possible to use as for the ten days we were there, there was no taxis in the vicinity.
If you want a holiday to mix with locals this is for you. Please do not be put off but we felt that the info had been a tad exaggerated . The communal pool had two cameras that are registered to the managers mobile so he can see you at all times and the poolside table and chairs are not to be used by guests of the villa.
The villa itself is well equipped and the beds were lovely and comfortable. The washing machine and drier was a fantastic bonus and the villa had about 40 towels to use. I would recommend this villa to young people .Isla Mujeres is a short boat ride away, we went on our own with a local fisherman and had a fantastic day with him
Thanks so much for your kind words. I know that Scott said that he really enjoyed you all! As always we appreciate the opportunity to make a guest's experience the best that it can be at Tranquility House. We have since become aware of the light outages on the rooftop and have repaired that. We have added a lock to the rooftop terrace even though it would take a ninja-like move to get up there. We want our guests to feel very secure and to not have to give it a second thought. We have also ordered a safe from the states so that our guests can lock valuables in the room and feel more secure. Thanks again for your honest feedback!
Cancun Girls Trip 2017!
I booked 4 days at the tranquility house with my 9 best girlfriends for once last adventure before getting married and we had the time of our lives in Cancun. The house was perfect and comfortable for our stay. Michael the home owner and Scott the property manager were there from beginning to end to answer questions and make us feel safe and comfortable reassuring me that I made the right choice in picking this home for my girls trip. While the home is a little on the outskirts, and a little away from the touristy area we were able to get the hotel district for the night life and easily get to nearby beaches like isla de mujers. Tranquility house is in a gated community and right outside you' can also find a lovely elderly couple who manage a taco stand. I recommend after a late night of drinking or cheap lunch you go grab some tacos as they are the best tacos I ever had. We did not rent a car as we found it more economical to take cabs and for a large group like ourselves it was very easy to get around and used Uber or local taxis. It was quit cheap ranging from 4 to 8 dollars at most per ride. I highly recommend booking excursions with Scott as he can help you find great deals. We did a day trip on catamaran as well as day trips to ruins and centotes. However, the the best part of our stay was how welcomed and at home we all felt. I highly recommend hiring Laura who can prepare meals for a fee, we all loved her cooking and it was totally worth it!!! We had typical Mexican dishes which blow eating out "out of the water". Scott , Laura and Michael provided great customer service and all went out of their to help us have a wonderful experience. One of my friends fell ill after a day trip and stood behind on one of our excursions. I was amazed at the attention and care to make sure our friend was ok, this exceeded our exceptions with the level of attention given. We just got home and can't stop raving about our time in Mexico. We would stay in the Tranquility house again and I highly recommend to anyone traveling with a large group and looking for a budget friendly vacation!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tranquility house. Scott and Laura were fabulous and we honestly couldn't have asked for better host! The home was conveniently located, and there was never a moment where we felt unsafe! Having Laura prepare meals for us while visiting was one of the most comforting pieces of our trip! Everything about our process was seamless and we were so thankful that we chose to stay in this beautiful home! Hasta la proxima vez.
The Tranquility House
Well....what word can describe about our stay in this home...AMAZING!!! It took me some time to finally write a review because I was so busy telling people how great this place is. This home is simply beautiful. The kitchen was newly remodeled, we loved the rooms and everything was working great. We had a big party of 15 people and accommodated us nicely. When we arrived in Cancun we were so tired and hungry from our flight from San Francisco. A week before we arrived Michael had already recommended us to eat at a local restaurant down the street from the house. The food was very good and inexpensive. After we ate, we rested a bit and Scott took us to Walmart and Costco to get a few things. Man this guy really knows everything! He knows which places are cheaper than others, and thats exactly what we needed. Unfortunately our trip started bad due to my friends missing their flight and having their luggage sent elsewhere. We already had a planned trip to visit Tulum the following day but our friends were so stressed because all they could think of was their lost baggage. Thankfully while we were in Tulum, Scott got in touch with the airline for us and retrieved the luggage for our friends, what a life saver! Now Laura, (Scott's gf) she was our personal chef. After a long day of excursions, we came home to a delicious, authentic Mexican meal served beautifully at our table. Her food was amazing and we really felt like home. Scott and Laura, thank you so much for the great hospitality!!! We had such a wonderful time in this beautiful home and highly recommend to big families. We are definitely coming back and renting this home again!
Scott lllloooooved you guys!!! So happy you had an amazing time! Thank you for taking the time to write the wonderful review Best wishes, Michael
Very nice property
This rental is just as pictured and everyone was so helpful every step of the way, from booking to departure. We had no problem finding it on our own and were able to check in (and out) very smoothly with Scott, who was wonderful with his recommendations and hospitality.
This is a great place to stay with family. There was seven of us ranging in ages from 13-75. The rooms are all upstairs, great for the couple of days that we wanted to sleep in. Each of us was able to have our own space if desired or have family time in the living dining room area. The rooftop was very popular with all of us due to the hammocks. The community is secure and quiet, perfect area if you want to stay away from the crowed hotel zone and have a very quiet relaxed vacation. The pool is a short walk from the property, although it is a shared pool it was mostly for ourselves.
We had no major issues while staying there. Everything in Cancun is close by, but if you are a medium to big group (like we are) it’s best to rent a car if you want to make the best of it.
Thanks Scott and Laura for welcoming us like we were old friends.
We were all very pleased with this rental.
