Welcome! Our backyard cottage is:
In a Great location: Easy neighborhood walks will take you to all manner of restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, and the usual retail attractions of the big city. The Woodland Park Zoo is so close we can hear the siamangs at feeding time. Phinney Ridge rates as “very walkable” with a 77 “Walkability Score.” If you walk over the top of Phinney Ridge, go down to and around Greenlake, and then return to our cottage, you will have taken one of America’s best urban five-mile walks. The location also is perfect for parents visiting children going to the University of Washington or Seattle Pacific U.
Comfortable: The cottage has natural light on all four sides plus a skylight. All the windows have shades (and screens in season.) The bed is a queen-size top-of-the-line convertible couch. There is plenty of hot water from a dedicated water heater. The mini-kitchen includes a microwave oven with an exhaust fan, a two-burner stovetop, a mini-fridge, an automatic water boiler, a blender, and a toaster. We have supplied the kitchen with the basics if you want to take meals in. There is plenty of short-term storage, free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, and an iPhone hook-up so you can play your own music.
Private: The cottage is a completely self-contained unit detached from our house. The entrance to the cottage is down seven gentle steps (see photo) from our driveway. It includes a kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower stall. Enjoy your own patio for outdoor eating, coffee drinking or reading. You may park off-street in our driveway if you require that.
Safe: We live in a quiet neighborhood with families with kids and grandkids. Our cottage is at the end of our driveway and it is illuminated by motion-detection lights and protected by dead-bolt locks.
Clean: The cottage is all new construction from 2011. We clean professionally between guests and we work to keep the living spaces uncluttered and open.
Attention to detail: Rick Treston, one of Seattle’s true craftsman builders, managed all construction. The bathroom and the foyer are finished with imported Italian tile. The patio features tumbled blue stone pavers. There are hand-finished surfaces throughout. The kitchen counter is granite. The landscaping was designed and installed by Classic Nursery and Landscaping of Woodinville, WA.
Solar powered: As of early 2013, the Phinney Cottage is now powered by solar panels on our property. Go green!
Tale of the Tape: Inside dimensions over-all: 13’ x 25’ or 325 square feet; Main room: 206 sq. ft.; Bathroom: 38 sq. ft.; Patio: 112 sq. ft.

Quiet cottage close to the city in a cute neighborhood.
Perfect stay. Hosts were very nice and the cottage is well appointed and immaculately kept.
The cottage was extremely comfortable and convenient.
The property was very attractive, clean and modern. The design and amenities provided a comfortable experience whether it was setup for sleeping or for day use. Peter and Anne were available for questions and were very accommodating. We hope to stay again when we next visit Seattle.
Great little self contained cottage
Peter and Ann have created a wonderful little place, with a cottage type atmosphere . It is located in Phinney Ridge, just above Ballard and close to Hwy 99 and I5, but on a quiet street. Peter made me feel very welcome and were around if I need something but were never intrusive. Peter has a Thunderbird sailboat and my being in town to search for my new boat we engaged in an interesting conversation. Unfortunately I had to leave for Alaska a day early and did not get to meet Ann. In short, this is a great place to stay and use as one's base - I would return for sure and highly recommend this for consideration as a place to stay.
We loved staying in your perfectly appointed cottage.
The property is lovely. It's perfect for a couple. Everything you need is there for you. Anne and Peter are so kind and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting their adorable grandchildren. The location is excellent to downtown Seattle, very easy few minutes in the car. The Fremont area has its own great vibe, eateries and entertainment. It was a great trip! Thank you, Anne and Peter.
Charming Cottage within the Heart of the Northwest
We loved our stay at Phinney Ridge Cottage! Peter and Anne were kind, most accommodating and helpful! This charming place allowed us to be centrally located to experience the best Seattle and the surrounding areas had to offer; The the back patio garden setting provided a serene environment to enjoy our morning coffee & coolness of Northwest. It was a great escape from summer heat of Texas. As this place is located in a quiet Seattle neighborhood, we truly got to experience the vibe of friendly local shops & restaurants. We highly recommend this choice as an affordable option for two person lodging.
Delightful four days on Phinney Ridge!
It was a pleasure to stay in the cottage! I agree with all the positive reviews. The gardens were beautiful and the little patio was so relaxing. The dimmers on the interior lights added a really nice touch in the evenings.
We especially enjoyed walks in the neighborhood. The neighbors were friendly and welcoming, the homes were charming, and the views and sunsets were beautiful!
Thanks, Peter and Anne, for sharing your your lovely place with us!
