Raised among the Blue Ridge Mountains and Roanoke Valley, the alure of the lake has always been extremely attractive. So, after decades of travel visits....I decided it was time to hang my hat and call SML my home! The condo was my first step and since I've moved forward as my family grew and today I offer you the opportunity to come relax and enjoy the serenity that awaits you!
Jessica Gauldin purchased this condo in 2005
The wine was great! Just the right flavor! We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to another weekend get-away in the near future. Thanks for being so accommodating. The early check in and late check out was really appreciated. Enjoy the rest of your day.
My wife and I had a great, week-long stay at this condo. The suite is ample for two but with a "cosy" bathroom. The owner is great and very responsive. We found this location to be convenient to various attractions, Booker Washington's Birthplace, movie theater, Kroger, mini golf, etc. Several locally owned restaurants we're really good -- check out Yelp. We made a visit to the pool almost every day.
It was great NOT having cable and we watched several movies from the apartment's collection as well as the vast collection of recent films in the local library.
It would be helpful to have a guide sheet to explain locations of the laundry and trash collection. The unit was "hotel clean" and the bathroom and kitchen were fine except that the floors and the living and bedroom areas could use a good spring cleaning in the corners.
Bottom line -- great value and if returning to the area, we'll gladly stay here again.
The little apartment is actually better than presented in the photos (which leave out the little galley kitchen). Perfect for two people. Cramped for any more than that. It is in a quiet, family-oriented complex off a narrow finger of the lake. Has great lake access with a dock and ramp which we used with the sailboat we brought. Has nice pool by the water. The owner was responsive to all emails. The apartment was clean and adequately provisioned. To top it off, there is an incredible restaurant 2 miles up the road (Blackwater Cafe?) where we had a stunning dinner of spiced shrimp. It is a great value and we would happily return.
My husband and I so enjoyed the view. It is located in a quiet, secluded area that overlooks the lake. We were disappointed that we were unable to rent a boat. So if you plan on doing that, reserve in advance. There is a community park near by that was great! We enjoyed our stay.
Bargain for the money. Very few people so we enjoyed some quiet time. View is great. Would suggest getting sheets that fit the bed and cable. Would definitely go again!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. This condo is such a great value for the money. The view was beautiful, the pool was great, and everything was just as pictured. I would highly recommend!
My husband and I just got back from a weekend here and really loved it. Jessica is a jewel to work with and the place is beautifully decorated. I mistakenly thought that there was cable but it is clearly stated in the descriptions : TV and DVD and did not mention cable. Turned okay because she had many DVD's to choose from plus we rented a couple from Redbox. Thanks for a really nice time.
What to Do at Smith Mountain Lake?
Among the many water activities at Smith Mountain Lake are power boating, canoeing, sailing, parasailing,
swimming, fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, and jet skiing. The Smith Mountain lakefront includes seven
public boat launching sites and many public and private marinas.
If you enjoy fishing, you'll be pleased to know that Smith Mountain Lake stocks striped bass, smallmouth
bass, largemouth bass -- and is home to blackmouth bass, crappie, catfish, and muskellunge. Walleyes,
although no longer stocked, breed naturally. Smith Mountain Lake and its neighbor Leesville Lake hold two
Virginia state freshwater records -- a 53 lb. striped bass and a 2 lb. 6 oz. Roanoke bass. The 2004 season's
final CITGO Bassmaster Northern Open fishing tournament was held at Smith Mountain Lake. ESPN
nationally broadcast the Blue Ridge Brawl Pro Tournament (a Bassmaster Elite Series Event) here in 2007,
and awarded nearly $700,000 in prizes. If you plan to fish at SML, please note that a Virginia State Fishing
License is required.
Off-water you'll enjoy sightseeing that includes many spectacular views of the lake's mountainous 500-mile
shoreline. Five challenging golf courses surround the lake. The Smith Mountain Lake State Park includes
many miles of hiking trails. The well-maintained but narrow, winding roads with no shoulders make
bicycling unsafe. (Drivers: Please pay careful attention to the road ahead at all times.) Smith Mountain Lake
also offers picnicking, camping, hunting, antiquing, shopping, and relaxing. Restaurants at waterfront and
nearby offer everything from pizza and sandwiches to prime rib buffets and gourmet cuisine.
Most land and water activities are available at Smith Mountain Lake State Park or within a short drive ... so
rent a lakeview or lakefront property, and enjoy yourself!
