About Donna De Grado

Bob and I have enjoyed our vacation home for years. We own and operate a motel and rv park in Challis Id. We have 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson. Which enjoy the cabin just as much as we do. Bob was born in Chicago Ill. and I was born in GA. But we have made Idaho our home for 37 years. We love the outdoors. Which include fishing, and hiking , riding our atv's and getting to spend time with our grandkids here at the yankee fork resort-cabin

Donna De Grado purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Donna De Grado chose Stanley

We worked for years in Stanley id. Cleaning and restoring log homes. The cabin was just great for us to work out of. As we retired we realize we want others to share the great blessing that the Stanley basin has to offer. The SNRA is just down the road. We love going to all the different lakes in this area. Stanley id is the greatest secret of Idaho. The Cabin is quite and restful yet is close enough to the town that we can still enjoy that .

What makes this cabin unique

We loved this cabin when we first laid eyes on it. It is right in the middle of the trees. We can sit on the front deck and watch the big game on the hillside or we can go to the back deck and watch the eagles soar overhead. Or watch the fox seek up trying to steal that last piece of food. Or sit around the fire at night and eat smores. We just love the quite. But we can still ride our atv's or take the kids fishing.

Great time with brothers and sisters-in-law

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to have a long weekend with my brothers and sisters-in-law. It was near some interesting side trips, but it was a great place to stay home and relax, too. It was very clean and each room was decorated with a theme. The furnishings were very nice and coordinated with each other rather than cast-offs that didn't fit into their main home. There was a tray with a nice white wine and 4 glasses waiting for us on the kitchen counter when we arrived. All the beds, including the hide-a-beds, were very comfortable. It was hot during the day (we were there the weekend before the 4th of July), but it cooled down nicely at night for sleeping. There was air conditioning in the house that kept it cool inside the house during the day. There was a two-person hammock strung between two trees that doesn't show in this picture that was a nice place to take a nap, read a book or just lay there looking at the scenery. There was an ATV camp going on that was located on the main road to the house. So there was a lot of ATV traffic zipping up and down the road, but I would still give this place 5 stars.

We left our coffee grinder by mistake in the house when we locked up, but the owner was nice enough to package it and mail it to us and take the cost from our cleaning deposit. I felt like it was a good value and affordable when the cost was split between the 3 couples.

Owner's Response: Hello Larry and Family We were so happy you enjoyed our Cabin. Bob and I love the cabin and we hope all our guest do as well. We are glad the A/C worked for you. We added it last year because the weather is getting real warm. The hammock is one of my favorite places to relax. We are glad you enjoyed the wine, nothing better than just relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening. Please come back again. Till we meet again --take care.

Nice Home, ImperfectLocation

  • 4 of 5

Reading the description, I expected a quiet retreat across the street from the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River. Instead, the home was in an enclave of other cabins (mostly uninhabited) and not on the same street / "driveway" as the river. The riverfront , a block or two blocks away, is blocked for miles by the Yankee Dredge, huge machine-dredged piles of river-bottom stones piled up all along the roadside for miles. While of considerable historical interest, it is decidedly unlovely to walk along. The river is not visible and difficult to get to.

By car, the house is close to the Salmon River, Stanley, and Redfish Lake, and hiking trails. All of them afford great views and opportunity for hiking, rafting, boating, and fishing.

The house itself is decorated on the themes of the old mining West, fishing, local animals. It is kitschy and fun, well-equipped for relaxing, cooking, and sleeping. I had a great time reading local history and cooking out of a collection of pioneer recipes.

On the other hand, the swamp/evaporative cooler did not work consistently on our second night. We had been told not to open windows, so this made for a few warm hours (we were gone most of the day and only used the cooler when we returned). And swamp coolers require ventilation to the outside.

Hosts were available by text or phone and were very helpful, including giving us entry when we locked ourselves out on our first night there.

This is a beautiful area to visit, and I realize that, due to national forest, wilderness and recreation areas, housing for visitors is limited. Compared to cabins in Stanley, this location was very private, but I would choose a better location vis a vis the river, if possible, in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at our Cabin. I am sorry that you did not find the area as beautiful as you thought it would be. Most of our guest enjoy the fact that they are away from the hectic town. It is a wonderful place to ride your bikes, hike, ride ATV's or go fishing. The Yankee Fork River is across the Road maybe 1/4 mile. The old mining towns are very interesting. The Sunbeam Hot Spring is just down the road and everyone enjoys soaking in them. While Stanley and Redfish Lake do have much greater views they also have the bigger crowds and higher prices . We try very hard to make our guest feel as comfortable as possible and this is the 1st time anyone this summer has mentioned the Swamp Cooler not properly. We will look into it right away. --Thank you again

Another great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is the 4 time we have been able to come and stay at this amazing area and to be able to stay at this cabin. There is no other place we would stay. It's nestled in the yankee fork river area and has the most beautiful scenery around the cabin. The cabin has the all updated amenities you could ask for yet at the same time. It was clean, has high quality bedding so after a hard day of playing your able to relax in comfy. There are flat screens and satellite tv,wifi, phone for local calls to book your fun day trips, laundry and full kitchen. Nothing is left out. There is a nice BBQ and a campfire area with log sears and it is so quiet. You are close to natural hot springs and rafting trips, and of course the famous salmon river, and ghost towns to tour. You are right in the middle of everything fun to do. The owners meet are every need. We have already booked our reservation for next year. Visit the cabin, you won't be disappointed! Oh, and yes our dogs were welcomed too.

Great cabin! Even larger than I expected. WiFi was great so I could even work a little (as much as I hate to admit it). Thanks so much for a great few days!

Yankee Fork Resort cabin was great for our stay!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is located in a small community of other cabins in various states of condition. This cabin was one of the better cabins in the neighborhood for sure. The fishing ponds just down the road were freshly stocked with trout averaging 12+ inches and our grandkids were catching them on every cast. We kept 7 trout and threw the rest back. Mosquitos were pesky and hungry so bring your mosquito spray! There is no cell phone service until you get to lower Stanley which we didn't mind because the point was to get off the grid for a few days. If you want to fish and explore the ghost towns and see the gold dredge this cabin is the perfect location!

A Great Retreat and Base Camp

  • 5 of 5

My good friend and I had a guys' retreat at this property and it was wonderful. Everything that was advertised about this place turned out to be exactly what was delivered. We each had a lovely separate bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and an efficient wi-fi, phone landline, and satellite TV. The location was great. Each day we got up and out early, hiked and fished in the Sawtooths and the White Clouds, and came home to a hot shower, a home-cooked meal (done by us), and a relaxing evening of sports and movies on TV. This is what we wanted and exactly what we got. The owners were excellent to work with as well.

Ride your atv's or motor bikes, fish in the yankee fork of the salmon river or fly fish in the dreage ponds.. Or soak in the natural hot springs . Raft the world famous salmon river- 'river of no return'. Hunt for big game. Deer, elk, moose, bear, mountain lion we have them all.. Watch the fox play in the front yard. Visit the ghost towns of custer and bonaza just 3 miles up the road. See the yankee fork dreage and learn how gold was found in days gone by.
