We think this is one of the best locations available in the Heights. Extremely convenient to multiple dining locations and HEB. For our needs it is also close to family. Check-in is easy and the listing is as advertised. Our host was very responsive and helpful.
This is the third time we have stayed at the Barn Door. We really enjoy all the amenities provided as well as the proximity to so many restaurants and shops.
Features we enjoyed the most: walkability of the neighborhood, in unit washer/dryer, bed was comfortable, water pressure was excellent, dedicated parking & ease of check in & out. Will book again when we’re back in town.
This property was just as pictured— very modern, neat and well equipped. If our family stays in Houston we will definitely stay here again. Great hospitality!
Very clean, well thought out floor plan and very peaceful koi pond. Location cannot be beat. Within minutes can be at multiple restaurants, morning coffee, bakeries, H-E-B and Joshua’s Native Plants and Garden which we went often. Hostess couldn’t be nicer or more helpful.
Excellent location, amenities and privacy. The only TINY critique I would make is that the bedsheets were old and ripped which didn’t match the rest of the ambiance. Overall a wonderful stay and will most likely be renting again.

I appreciate my guest letting me know the set of bedsheets were damaged. I will make sure they are discarded and replaced.
This Upstairs garage apartment Is very well appointed, provided with everything you could need for a long-term stay. It’s very pleasant and safe and clean. I really enjoyed it because the location was perfect for me both for places to eat and for nearness to the Heights bike trail. I came because my daughter was having a baby, So when she called in the middle of the night, I felt safe to jump on my bike and be at her apartment in five minutes.

So nice to hear a great guest was happy with her stay.
I was in town for an annual 3 day music festival and always prefer to stay in the Heights.
Bed is very comfortable. Quiet and convenient location. Well stocked kitchen. Appreciated the ability for quick laundry. Wifi is fast. Overall could not be any better.
We recently visited Houston to celebrate a family members 60th birthday. The property is convenient to walking trails, restaurants, grocery and coffee shops.
Communication great!!!
Too many pluses to list them all
We absolutely loved this property!! It had a ton of charm and was extremely cute! Small, but exactly what we needed. We loved being able to feed the koi fish & sit by the koi fish pond drinking coffee in the morning. Vicki was extremely helpful & quick to respond! Thank you for such an awesome stay!

We appreciate the positive feedback and great guests.
The location was perfect for us, close to friends who live in the heights. Very walkable neighborhood near food, grocery store and pharmacy. Communication with the hosts was fantastic and they were very nice. Everything was exactly as it said in the listing and seamless check in and check out. Will say the shower is a bit small for tall people but it worked fine for our weekend. We will definitely stay here again when we are back in town.

Great location, cozy space all we could ask for for our trip to Houston.
After moving away from the city in 2016 we returned to Houston to help families who lost so much in Harvey. I wanted to be located in the Heights one of my favorite neighborhoods in Houston. My daughter who is ten and I enjoyed the barn door hideaway as our base. It was quiet and cozy and being so close to running trails was important to me as it is how I started each day. This place is perfect for a couple it's close to great restaurants and and has easy access to I 10 and 610. Vicki and Mike were super accommodating and I would definitely return to this adorable VRBO when visiting Houston in the future.

Thanks Jane. It was a great pleasure to host you both.
It was very nicely decorated on the inside; and had everything you could think of in an apartment! A foot stool might be nice while sitting on the couch. Houston Hts. is a historical/family neighborhood; and it was fun to see it decorated for Halloween with lots of families trick or treating. It seems like a safe neighborhood and we went daily from the vrbo to downtown Houston to the convention center. We liked the koi pond and fed them daily. Vickie, the owner, was very helpful!
You enter the property through a nice fence from an alley as the vrbo is above the garage (and the backyard is very small). We were uber-ing while in Houston, and the alley is not marked on any gps. Uber sees your address (front of the house) and thinks that's where they pick you up. I had to make notes on every uber we had for pick-ups as to HOW to find us in the alley; and still my husband had to stand at the alley/main street to make sure that the uber could find us. Also, the stairs up to the apartment are VERY steep yet there is a good handrail. It is a small bathroom, and it has a shower tub that is difficult to get into. It would be MUCH easier IF it was just a shower. Please check the seal on the shower faucet to the tile wall as it gaps and leaks; and check the shower door height on the door closest to the faucet as water splashes out from underneath on the floor. New bed pillows are needed as the ones we used were hard and flat.

We appreciate such nice guests and also any comments regarding things we can address to improve and maintain our place. We included a tub/shower in our small bathroom design for the many guests that really enjoy a relaxing bath. We will fix the shower issue brought to our attention and also replace the bed pillows. There are also several extra pillows available for guest use. We recommend meeting the Uber driver in front of the main house. We give guests a key to side gate from backyard to the front yard to make it easy. We will add this suggestion for using ride services to our listing description for future guests.
My wife and I stayed at this property over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The owner was quite responsive and prompt with communication and answering questions we had before our stay. Location couldn't be better! It was only a mile or so away from the home of our family member that we were having the Thanksgiving meal with. We love to walk and we especially appreciated that there was a walking/biking trail a half a block away that provided scenic safe walking for miles! Grocery stores are also about a block's walk away. Property was clean and fully equipped. We will definitely return!

About the host
Hosted by Vicki Williams, Owner
I've been a vacation rental host since 2015. I previously enjoyed hosting guests at my nearby Woodland Heights bungalow until 2019 when we sold it. I decided to build a custom designed garage apartment in our backyard in Houston Heights and began to rent it in late March, 2017. We really enjoy hosting and have enjoyed very favorable reviews from our guests. We also love sharing our Koi pond with our guests. It is adjacent to the apartment path and the fish swim over to the guests as they pass by. We have specialty Koi food available if guests wish to feed them. There is a small table and seating for guests adjacent to the pond. Our victorian style 3 bedroom main house at this same address has recently been made available for vacation rentals since we also enjoy staying at our Lake Conroe Home.
