About this property

Lakefront Cottage - private dock, 3 large decks, large fire pit

Your family and friends will love this lakefront retreat on the shores of Watchic Lake! Enjoy lazy afternoons on the water with the help of a private dock, three decks, and a separate cozy three season sun room on the oversize deck near the water.

This 4 bedroom home is located directly on the lake. It is great for swimming, fishing, floating, or just sitting by the fire pit and relaxing. In the winter you can enjoy ice skating, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing.

The main level is an open concept living area combining the dining, kitchen, and living room. There are two large bedrooms on the second floor. The master bedroom has a private balcony. The other room contains a full and twin size bed. There are two small bedrooms in the basement (one does not have a window) and another cozy family room.

We have a selection of games and DVDs for rainy days or nights at home. Light a fire in the fire pit near the water and enjoy views of the lake

Just twenty miles from Portland International Jetport. 35 minutes to Funtown/Splashtown and 40 minutes to Old Orchard Beach. North Conway NH and outlet shopping make for a nice midweek day trip.

Fall leaf peeping, the Fryeburg Fair, hiking and biking are all within a close proximity. Winter rentals provide access to ITS trails and bountiful ice fishing.

***Please note this home is in close proximity to adjacent neighbors. Some neighbors have been known to throw parties and play loud music on the weekend.***

A great week!
We ended up having wonderful weather and took full advantage of the lake, kayaks, bbq grills, and fire pit. All the things were there for us to reconnect and make memories with family! The blow up cobra floatie created a lot of laughs!!

Comfortable base
We used this house as our base for a weekend wedding nearby. Our needs were simple and this house was a comfortable place to sleep and eat our breakfast. If we wanted more ambitious meals, the kitchen would have served us well.

August Family Week at the Lake
The Loon’s Nest worked out very well for our family of eight. The kitchen is up-to-date and well stocked with dishes, utensils, and pots and pans. The refrigerator is huge. The deck off the main level was great for reading, grilling, and outdoor meals. The upstairs bedrooms were very comfortable and each has a private bath which was really nice. The bedrooms on the lower level are quite small but workable. The bathroom on the main level has the only indoor shower, but the outdoor shower is wonderful. The waterfront area was great. We enjoyed the dock which is roomy enough for chairs and has stairs to access the lake. The raft was nice for swimming and fishing. The huge deck near the water has plenty of tables and chairs and a beach umbrella. There is also a small screened sunroom with couches and a small refrigerator. The sunroom was a perfect place to go for peace and quiet. Other reviews mentioned how close the neighbors are and how noisy they can be. Our experience was that it was noisy and crowded on the weekend but after that it was super quiet. The lake was nice for kayaking and we enjoyed watching and listening to the loons.

Almost perfect with a beautiful view
We had a wonderful time staying at Loon’s Nest. The view of Watchic Lake was beautiful from the dock. We loved the white Christmas lights that went all the way down. The large deck and fire pit had plenty of seating and we spent a ton of time just sitting on the dock. The kitchen was well-stocked. The living room was comfortable and we enjoyed the decks on all the floors. Communication with the hosts was easy and efficient. Our son loved having the Wii, board games and a great dock to swim from. We also appreciated the thorough instructions/info binder. The neighbors are very, very close, but friendly. But there isn’t a lot of privacy if that is what you’re looking for. The sunroom wasn’t the cleanest- we ended up mainly using the deck/grill instead. The only other cons for us were no A/C (it was really hot the first few days of our stay), no washer and dryer and only one tiny shower on the first floor. We would definitely recommend Snickerdoodles for breakfast/lunch (there’s a river with a picnic area right before you get there that’s great to eat at!). It was also an easy drive into Portland and to the coast to see the lighthouses (35-45 min). Overall a great stay! ❤️

I grew up in the area around where the house is located and moved to Boston in 2010. We have family that live in the area and we were looking for a vacation home that we could stay at and have family gatherings when we are in town.

Why they chose this property

This house checked off everything on our list. We wanted a place that was on the water for swimming and boating. We wanted it to be big enough to have family and friends stay over and we wanted it to be close enough to Portland so that it was easy to get to. We didn't want to spend half the weekend traveling to and from the house.

What makes this property unique

In the warmer months, the loons will sing to you from the water, which is fantastic. In the winter months, the sounds of the ice on the lake will lull you to sleep at night. Truly, this is an authentic Maine experience no matter the season.
