Charming and convenient!

  • 4 of 5

This is a great property with old world charm that is conveniently located to the Mercato Centrale, the train station, and the Academy of Art where the famous David statue is located. Everything else in Florence is a convenient walk away. There are many great restaurants, cafes, sights and shopping nearby.

My Mother and I were warmly greeted and everything was just as stated. Everything was explained to us and easy to deal with. It has most everything you could want for either a quick visit, like our three day stay, or longer. Air-conditioning, bath and a half, kitchenette, washer; all you need to feel at home or take a break from seeing the sights.

One reviewer is quite negative about the stairs stating that no one over 50 should rent this place. I'm 55 (and relatively fit) and my Mother is older. Even though she started having some minor knee problems on our stay in Rome, she did fine, albeit slightly slower. I had no problems with the stairs at all. If you are going to travel with 7 pieces of luggage and have any trouble walking or negotiating stairs, a trip to Italy is going to be challenging no matter where you stay.

I can highly recommend this apartment for all the reasons stated. It is as described and I had no problems whatsoever.

Not as advertised!

  • 1 of 5

We were informed of the "45" steps and no lift, but there needs to be more on the steps in the description. These steps were shear torture. Very narrow, with only about a 6" tread, made from stone and worn in many places so the footing was horrible. The unit was on the 3rd floor so the steps going up went like this; 5-6 step, a landing, 90 degree turn, 5-6 steps, a landing, 90 degree turn, 5-6 steps, floor #1. This is repeated 2 more times to reach the 3rd floor apt. Only a 1/2" diameter steel hand-rail (bent) is all to hold on to, and the stairway itself is probably no more than 30" wide. We had 7 pieces of luggage to try and get up these stairs. The original description stated 2 bed room, 2 baths,2 showers. There were 2 bedrooms, but there was a full bath in the hall with walk in shower, but one bedroom had only a half bath, with only stool and sink. My criteria clearly stated 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths with showers, no smoking, no pets and WiFi. I did not want the hassle of 4 adults trying to be able to use 1 shower. I would not recommend this unit for anyone over 50 years old, even if they are in good physical health. Also, the property manager kept us waiting outside the unit, in the street with all of our luggage for 20-30 min, then it turns out, she hollered at us from the 3rd floor kitchen window, so she was there doing something while we waited in the street. Actually, this unit needs to be taken off the market with VRBO.

Owner's Response: Dear Gene, I am really sorry to read your review. I know the stairs can be hard, but unfortunately we cannot do anything, except writing about it in the description and helping the guests to carry the luggage upstairs. Also, I am really surprise to read about you waiting downstairs. I arrived at the apt much earlier in order to check that everything was fine and called you a couple of times. Unfortunately your mobile phone was not reachable, but I know that sometimes American mobile phones do not work in Italy. I waited for you at the apt aware that I had previously sent you instructions about how to get to the apt and how to reach me. Also, you were asked to ring the buzzer of the apt, that's why I was waiting for you upstairs. About the bathrooms, I realized that it was stated only in the full description that there is a full and a half bathroom, but in the list of the amenities it actually appeared 2 bathrooms, so I do apologize for this. Veronica

In the center of Florence

  • 4 of 5

Our stay in Florence at this apartment was only three days / nights. This location has two separate bedrooms., one full and one half bathroom, which is difficult to find at this price. The steps have been mentioned and there are a lot and they are steep, but if you only come in and out once or twice per day, it's not bad. One bed had a very hard mattress and the couch was worn out, but other than that, it worked well for us.

Great location and stay

  • 5 of 5

This was my favorite rental of our holiday. The apartment is located so conveniently to the train station it made it perfect to get there. The instructions given were detailed and easy to follow. Our hostess gave us wonderful information about what to see in Florence including the best gelato shops and after sampling a few she was spot on on her recommendations. We also went to a couple restaurant suggestions and they didn't disappoint either. If we were to go to Florence again we would definitely see if this property was available again. Everything was there to make our stay comfortable.

Charming Apartment and So Helpful!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this charming apartment near the Mercato Centrale. We stayed here two years ago with our young son and liked it so much we came back! The kitchen, dining and living area is light and bright and offers a view of the Mercato Centrale and a hint of the Duomo! You can hear the bells of the Campanile every morning and evening! The bedrooms are very spacious and comfortable, and our 2.5 year old graduated into a twin bed on holiday! He was so excited! The apartment is an easy walk to the Piazza del Duomo, Medici Chapels and the Accademia. You're never too far from a gelateria or a grocery store!

To be honest, this is the standard by which we compare all other rentals on holiday!

I also want to express my deepest gratitude to Veronica! Not only did she meet us for our late check-in, but was helpful in the extreme when our flight was cancelled on our departure day. We were able to return to the apartment and stay an extra night without any worry. Further, Veronica assured us that should our second flight out of Florence be cancelled, that we could return again! Utterly gracious and so willing to make a difficult, stressful situation easy for us. Grazie mille!

This is a very central location so you can be back 'home' within a matter of minutes from most of the historic center sites. The neighborhood has many convenient shops, small supermarket, groceries, pizzeria, several restaurants, a pharmacy and a bakery with one block.

It's very close to all the major sites. Located near Piazza San Lorenzo, it's an easy walk to the Duomo, the train station, the Medici Chapels, Fortezza da Basso.

In Piazza San Lorenzo, one block further, stands the San Lorenzo Basilica, the first Florentine church. It was consecrated by Saint Ambrose in 393 and would be later be described as “The Medici family's church and mausoleum”. This exuberant square has for centuries been a mixture of sacred and profane: sacred is the superb church named after the patron saint of the Arte dei Fornai (the Bakers Guild), while profane is the colorful little market with its picturesque stands carrying such a variety of goods and thick formation of shops where one can buy just about anything.

The covered area of the Mercato Centrale nearby offers vast varieties of Italian food specialties, cheeses, hand made pasta, artisan olive oils and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Maybe, you'll be eating out at the many nearby excellent restaurants most days. However, the wonderful selection of fresh seasonal ingredients might tempt you to cook at home! So handy if you need a few last-minute items.

On August 10th, St. Lorenzo Day, the square becomes even livelier, as there are both solemn religious functions and street celebrations through popular initiatives.
