Snowshoe Cottage & Boathouse

An iconic Adirondack cottage located on Mirror Lake with its own boathouse and only a 2 block walk to the village of Lake Placid NY. This idyllic cottage with a stream stone wood-burning fireplace has amazing views of Mirror Lake and the Southern Adirondack range mountains. The boathouse has an upstairs sitting room with deck, a dock right on the shores of Mirror Lake, and includes canoes, kayaks, and SUPs for your use.

Snowshoe Cottage is the epitome of Adirondack atmosphere combining old world charm with modern convenience, original beadboard and wood fir floors with new Adirondack style furnishings. This cozy cottage can accommodate six people in style. It is perfect for a romantic getaway or your next family vacation.

You will have full access to the home (except for the garage) as well as the boathouse and dock.

We are always available by phone or email if you have a question or concern. We also have a caretaker nearby who is available in case of problem with the home.

Snowshoe Cottage is the perfect home away from home from which to experience all that Lake Placid and the High Peaks Region has to offer. From hiking to biking, spa time to wine and beer tastings, there is something for everyone.

Snowshoe Cottage is walking distance to the Village of Lake Placid. Also within walking distance are several hiking trails. There is also a trolley system in town.

Please note that the cottage itself is not directly on the water. There are water views from the lakeside rooms of the cottage but there is another house situated so that we do not get completely unobstructed views. The boathouse is, of course, directly on the water with splendid views of Mirror Lake.

This is a cottage dating back to 1906. It has all the modern-day amenities that you would hope for, but it is a cottage which by definition means a small house.

Snowshoe is perfection. The cottage is immaculate, organized, and beautifully curated. We enjoyed a peaceful respite from our busy days at the horse show. Coffee never tasted as good and sleeping in the mountain air is always such a treat. Michelle and Mark thought of everything. We loved the take away blanket and left a bag of our favorite coffee behind. It shares the same name as our beloved and recently passed Golden Retriever, Huck.

Luxury on the lake

Snowshoe Cottage provides every amenity you need to have a relaxing and fun experience vacation. The setting is beautiful and the included boathouse was one of the best features. We canoed, kayaked and paddle boarded on lovely mirror lake. A short walk to town, restaurants and shops have lots to explore.

Lake Life!

Desperately wanted to extend our stay - one week wasn't enough! The cottage has it all - a great location, boats and paddle boards to enjoy on Mirror Lake, a thoroughly equipped kitchen, books and maps to plan adventures in the High Peaks, even strong WiFi in the boathouse! The owners were very friendly and quick to respond to the few questions we had. Hope to book another stay soon.

Cottage on the lake

Snowshoe cottage is a little gem on mirror lake. It a charming updated hunting cabin from the 1900s, with historic charm maintained while modern updates were added. The rustic Adirondack decor completes the ambience. The little boathouse is right in the lake, and just a few steps along a grassy right of way. Walkable to downtown but still quiet … wake up to loons on the lake.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mark and Michelle's comfortable and beautifully decorated cottage, a quintessential Adirondack summer cottage with cozy and generous seating, comfortable beds, a well appointed kitchen and nice views of Mirror Lake. The boathouse was perfect for reading, relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine. Canoes, kayaks and bikes were in great shape (even if we weren't) and a host of books, games and puzzles kept us occupied when the weather kept us inside. You can't go wrong with this one!

The location on Mirror Lake and the views of the lake from the house where just incredible! Michelle and the house caretaker Tracy could not have been nicer! They made sure we were well taken care of and were incredibly kind when we had to leave early due to a family emergency. My kids loved being on the dock feeding the ducks, using their kayak and canoe for fishing. We are already making plans to return next year.

Really the best

Smallish older house with modern upgrades (baths, kitchen, etc.) Quiet location easy walking distance to town. Very close to but not quite on the lake, with great view lines to the lake. Boathouse, which contains canoes and kayaks, etc., is right on the lake and has a finished and furnished upstairs with wi-fi that we used as an office. House is well maintained and furnished with a lot of thought and care. Comes with every toy - from kayaks, canoes and bicycles to puzzles, books and games. Owner was very communicative and obviously takes a lot of pride in the place. Highly recommend for one or two couples or a small family.

Perfect piece of paradise

We come to Lake Placid several times a year and think of it as our home away from home. We were hesitant to stay at any of the hotels we love due to COVID and were worried that our trip may not happen. Deciding to rent the Snowshoe Cottage was the best decision we made. Our 5 year old loved the boathouse and access to the water for fishing and stand up paddle boarding as well as the fire pit for roasting marshmallows. The property is exactly as described. Fantastic location with everything we needed to have 3 generations of family fun. Can't wait to return!

Perfectly relaxing, great location, gorgeous views!!

We spent 5 days at Snowshoe cottage and it was the perfect vacation! We were really impressed with all the little details (welcome bag, fully stocked kitchen, towels, sheets, books and maps on the area, games, kayaks etc) to make our stay as enjoyable as possible! The dock was incredible with gorgeous views of the mountains right on the water. Each morning we would enjoy a cup of coffee on the dock and a glass of wine at night. We had the best time out on the water with the kayaks and canoe. My 5 year old is already counting down until when we can come back and my dad kept saying over and over again throughout the week “now this is the good life”. We really did have a wonderful time and truely can’t thank Mark and Michelle enough! They go above and beyond to make it a great vacation for their guests!

Very nice, not quite on the water.

We very much enjoyed our stay however found the information a bit misleading. The house is right on the street while there is a walk down a side strip of property between two houses leading to the boat house. Put simply : a great location given close proximity to town, it's obvious the owners have done a great job creating a comfortable cottage feel and the boat house is very nice but do not envision a house on the lake : it's not. The boat house has a small dock and a small balcony that allow for lake viewing. Very nice but same price as others we looked at that were right on the water.

Wonderful Family Vacation

Michelle and Mark's property was TOP NOTCH! The Cottage was wonderfully decorated and very well appointed with everything you could ever need or want. The location is just a short walk to incredible shopping and restaurants. We spent the majority of the time at the Boathouse and the dock. The SUP, kayaks, and canoe were used almost everyday and the stunning Mirror Lake was the perfect playground for the kids (age 8 & 11). They SUP and swam for hours while we enjoyed the mountain view from the dock or paddled along with them. We enjoyed making Smore's at the fire pit and star gazing from the Boathouse. We also received about 2-3 compliments on the property from passerby-ers daily. You will not find another place with the such a great location and amenities. We WILL be back! Thank you for sharing your Cottage with our family.

Can't Wait To Return!

It took me a few days to stop saying "I'm obsessed...". This place exceeded my expectations and the attention to detail and décor was evident at every turn you take. Such care and thought went into facilitating a memorable vacation that will last us a lifetime. Perfect location for walking into town or around the lake (our daily activity). There are two good size bedrooms and a small third however ideal for a child (perfect for our baby, equipped with a pack-n-play upon request. Actually I didn't even have to ask. Thanks Michelle! ). With two full size bathrooms and tons of living space this property suited two couples and a baby perfectly! And the boat house...what a perfect space on the water stocked with fishing poles, floats, boats, and life preservers! You won't regret staying here! I could go on and on about this place and can't wait to return again and again! Thank you so much for making our first vacation since becoming a family of three so special!

Girls Weekend Success

I gave Snowshoe Cottage a 5 Star rating for several reasons. The house is decorated beautifully in a rustic Adirondack style, the house is very clean, the owners welcomed us with a bag of goodies, the house is equipped with many amenities you don't normally expect such as games, books, kitchen gadgets, etc., and the proximity to the downtown area was wonderful. There is a walking trail around the lake that is adjacent to the property so it is convenient to get a run or walk in every day. There are a couple of downsides to the property. The third bedroom is very small and has a trundle bed - if trundle is used the beds take up all the space in the room so it isn't really comfortable for two people therefore I don't think the cottage really comfortably accommodates 6 people as stated. Also, the house does not sit directly on the lake as there is a house in front of it. There is a boat house to use which is on the lake so you still can have your lake front experience. Since it was a chilly, rainy weekend we used the sitting room in the boat house which was a nice feature. Overall, the positives outweighed the negatives though and we had a great weekend, despite the weather.

Perfect Fall Multi-Generation Getaway!

There are so many positives with this sweet cottage rental that I don't know where to begin. I will start with location, location, location! Perfectly situated on the lake and within walking distance of all that Lake Placid has to offer, the lake trail, downtown, touring boats and hiking trails. Once we arrived, we only got in our vehicle once to drive the 2 miles to the local grocery store. The cottage itself is beyond charming and lovingly renovated with such attention to detail! If you choose this cottage, please take your time and explore all the art, books,tile work and even the light fixtures! Snowshoe cottage has so many options for relaxing as well. A cozy chair by the fire? Or maybe you prefer reading your book with a lake view, or maybe cocktails in the boat house? We had six adults, and never felt cramped in any way! The dining space was my favorite. We all gathered and enjoyed the cozy space, good food and lovely view. Snowshoe cottage is also extremely clean and well equipped with many outdoor accessories. My husband and I took out the canoe, while our son and his girlfriend enjoyed the bikes and the kayaks. There are backpacks for hiking, water canteens and trail maps!! There is also plenty of firewood for evening fires in the fireplace. Everything is super organized and easy to find. The kitchen is always a concern for our family. We all enjoy cooking and the Snowshoe cottage did not let us down, well equipped and again super organized and clean. Michelle, the owner, was very easy to contact and quick with a response to all my pesky questions! The owners have gone above and beyond to make anyone's stay at Snowshoe cottage not only enjoyable, but seamless as well. We were visiting on one of Lake Placid busiest weekends, Columbus Day weekend. Prime leaf-peeping time as well as Canadian Thanksgiving. Needless to say there were many tourist. While the downtown was very busy, Snowshoe Cottage was a nice respite, but so close to all the action. On one of the days we were there, it rained all day. We took advantage of the cool rainy day and curled up close to the fireplace, read books, cooked and just enjoyed time together! All three generations of our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Snowshoe Cottage and are hoping that we are able to return next year!

The house and boat house are truly amazing in every way, in an unbeatable location. Everything looks great the online pictures … in person you can multiply just how good it really is by about 10! A Lakeside Retreat

This cozy cottage is perfect for a family vacation. It is well equipped for cooking, relaxing and watching the changing sunlight over the lake. The boat house has canoes, kayaks, SUPs and floats of every size along with a postcard worthy view of the mountains. Highly recommend this house.
