About MARCELA NORIEGA

My husband and I moved to Panama in 2002 from Miami, Florida, where we had established our residence soon after we married in 1978. Adolfo is Cuban-American and I am originally Panamanian. Adolfo grew up in the US and I grew up in Panama. We currently reside in Panama. I have a Master´s Degree in Anthropology but currently work as an independent certified legal translator, and Adolfo has a Ph.D. in International Relations and is currently Associate Professor of Latin American History and International Relations at Florida State University-Panama.

MARCELA NORIEGA purchased this villa in 2002

Why MARCELA NORIEGA chose Panamá Oeste

This property is our getaway place from the hectic life in Panama City. There are 2 houses built, one for rent and the one we use for our leisure and rest. The houses are located on opposite corners of the property to assure total privacy. We come every week-end to re-energize ourselves, because the place is completely surrounded by nature, where we feel the silence and peace of the surrounding area while enjoying the gorgeous mountain views, the sounds of a great variety of birds and the sight of many colorful butterflies.

What makes this villa unique

We felt in love with the land because of its all green exhuberant tropical foliage around us and its panoramic mountain views. We were looking for a Garden of Eden and we found it, with the great benefit of being only 5 minutes away from town.

Fantastic location, perfect (neat and clean) rental home and super hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful gardens and fantastic scenery of mountains and valleys. We saw sooo many birds (over 50 different kinds, just in and around their gardens!) and capuchins from the patio.

Close to town for essentials and for hikes and attractions.

Great little kitchen for cooking if you're so inclined. We feasted on corn tortillas, and fresh eggs from the owners, beans and tomatoes outside every morning while watching the wildlife.

We hiked Indio dormido, from foot to head (starting at sendero de las cruces) . Also did hikes on a neighbouring peak, La Laguna and even a lovely walk near the rental to see a massive tree and river valley (ask the owners, you start at the far end of the nearby football pitch).

We did go see the waterfalls (hidden falls, lovers falls) but we visited during dry season so wasnt probably as spectacular as it could be. Still a fun hike though.

We visited the simple but lovely Nispero zoo.

Marcela and Adolpho were very friendly and helpful.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Tiina. Adolfo and I are very pleased to know that you and your family fully enjoyed your stay in Villa Eca. If you ever decide to come back to Panama and visit our place again, I urge you to do it during the rainy season (August is best) as you´ll see an exhuberant green foliage that is typical in El Valle during our wet season -- and much stronger water walls, of course!

Slice of paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Went here with a few friends for a two night stay in el Valle. It is close to the town and it is lovely. I loved waking up and wandering around the gardens looking at the birds and flowers or just sitting on the front porch watching the clouds rise and fall over the mountains. Relaxing in the hammock was lovely too! Marcela is a wonderful hostess, very kind and helpful!

Peace upon peace

  • 5 of 5

This house was the best way to top off a long vacation in Panama. The weather is exquisite. The piece is unbelievable. All sorts of nature is right before your fingertips.

The house is clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. There is no Wi-Fi, and you don't need one anyway. It's a place to relax, encounter God, and to nestle in His Creation.

The hosts are most friendly. They go above and beyond and a very thoughtful.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Robert. It was a real pleasure having you and your lovely family as guests in our place. Even though there is no WIFI in the area, I do have a small device that provides HOT SPOT WIFI which I lend to my tenants during their stay, so you could say that there is indeed Internet access in the property. Next time you come down, I will lend it to you if you want to. We are looking forward to your next visit. Warmest regards.

Wonderful Family Christmas Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family had the pleasure of staying in this lovely, lush environment for the holiday season and loved every minute of it! The weather was spring-like and the sun shone every day, with only occasional brief misting of rain. The grounds were full of flowers, trees and shrubs and included banana, orange, mango and papaya trees. A large variety of birds came by daily. The house was comfortable, containing 3 bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed and a wonderful tiled outdoor patio with spectacular views of the mountains. The town of El Valle is just 4 kms away and there is much to see and do in the area. Fresh fruit and vegetables are available at the market and are reasonably priced. You can see the daily life of the indigenous population by vising the artisans market, going to the local church events, and just touring the mountain villages to see where people live. Everyone is most friendly and helpful. Marcela and Adolfo were gracious hosts, showed us around the area, and were always available to answer questions.

BEST part of our trip to Panama!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks in Panama in three different areas and this was by far our favorite spot. We were two couples, in our 50s and 70s and we all loved our home away from home in Elle Valle. Marcela has thought of absolutely everything! If it isn't in this well stocked household, you don't need it. The grounds are full of stone walk ways, seating areas, fountains and flowers. Then there are the birds! It truly is a bird lover's paradise. It was so relaxing to sit on the patio or wander the grounds and see all the different birds. We were lucky enough to see a hummingbird nest with two eggs during our stay! Marcela is very welcoming, helpful and interesting. We so enjoyed visiting with her. Unfortunately, her husband was out of town during our visit so we were unable to meet him. A car is necessary if you want to get to town or visit nearby areas. One day we drove to beach, which was an easy drive.

One hour and a half drive from Panama City, el Valle de Antón (El Valle) is an exclusive, beautiful tropical mountain resort region where prominent families have their vacation homes. El Valle is to Panama what Cuernavaca is to Mexico, Bariloche to Argentina, or Vail (Colorado) to the U.S.

If you feel like going to a beach and return the same day, you may drive down the mountains for only 30 to 45 minutes to the most famous beach areas and resorts on the Pacific coast (Gorgona, Coronado, Punta Barco, Vista Mar, Playa Blanca, Aventura, Seacliff, Santa Clara, etc.).

The region of El Valle offers a great opportunity to go hiking, trail walking, mountain climbing, swimming in water falls and rivers, horse riding, bird watching, bike riding, 4-wheel riding, canopy tours, as well as hot springs and/or creeks. The town of El Valle also has a zoo/botanical garden with veterinarian services; a health center, dental clinic, local and international cuisine restaurants for all prices; food markets and supermarket with many locally produced vegetables and fruits, a bakery, a gourmet shop, shopping stores, drugstores, a Catholic church, a library, several internet offices, and a wonderful flower and indigenous arts & craft market which is specially lively and picturesque on week-ends.
