About the host
Hosted by Kelly Schmitz
Chris and Kelly grew up in Minnesota and spent their lives throughout the Midwest. Experience owning rental properties and older homes melded into a desire to own an even older home with all the historic characteristics and run a full service Bed an Breakfast. In 2021 they began the process of selling off the rental properties along with many personal possessions in preparation of a major move wherever they found the right house. Through a series of events, they ended up finding and purchasing the Henry Weis house in Waterloo Iowa.
Chris spends most of his time writing novels-science fiction, fantasy, suspense, comedy, and nonfiction. When he isn't writing, he can be found playing bagpipes or tinkering on home projects.
Kelly enjoys finding antique treasures to decorate the home when she isn't busy baking bread or making yogurt.
We live on site with our 3 dogs-Daisy (9), Fenris (7) & Festus (7). We have two adult children- Christian who works in IT in MN and Sophia who is attending Iowa State, majoring in Electrical Engineering.
Why they chose this property
We love historic homes and preserving them. We used our experience as landlords of multiple units to hone our skills for this lovely home.
What makes this property unique
This building is adults only (children 16 and up with parents) so the stay is fairly quiet and is free of young children. This space is very well insulated so very quiet. Privately controlled ac/heat makes for a comfortable stay. It is the entire 3rd floor of a historic building on the National Registry of Historic Places. Stay can include full homemade breakfast with many scratch made items.
