About Nikos Maltos - Owner

Being an university degree engineer , I was involved in the business of building holiday homes in the Aegean-islands for the last 25 years, and was visiting this beautiful sandy beach of Kalando since 1975 on my private sailing boat.

Visiting Kalando almost every year, I decided to buy this land plot in 2001, and decided to build this house only in 2007 when a real road was built, connecting Kalando with the rest of the island. A year after the small Marina started to be built, and finally in 2009 electricity was available in the area for the first time.

Why Nikos Maltos - Owner chose Naxos

Luxury residence in the traditional style, located in a region which remains witness of what were the Cyclades 50 years ago.

What makes this villa unique

Today, Kalando is a unique location for a quiet and relaxing holiday, away from it all....

Another highlight is the magnificent-unforgettable sunrise.

Naxos is the island, with a rich Byzantine history and a long period of Venetian occupation. With lovely villages and a fertile agricultural tradition.

Just opposite, the small Cyclades in a distance of 4 to Nautical miles: Iraklia, Shinoussa and Koufonissia, together with the south coast of Naxos, is the Paradise area to explore with a small boat or an inflatable. This area is very well protected from the prevailing North seasonal winds.

A touch of genius in a remote corner of the Cyclades

  • 5 of 5

We have had the most wonderful time in this amazing house.

The place is a logistical and engineering masterpiece let alone a credit to the imagination and taste of Nikos Maltos, it's erudite and charming owner.

The pictures on-line do not get close to reflecting the stunning landscape which meets you on waking up on the first morning (we arrived after dark). The location has been carefully selected with this vista in mind and centres on a broad outlook to the southern Cyclades with a series of distant islands occupying 180 degrees of the panorama. These burst into a blaze of golden colour as the sun sets and there can be few places in Greece that offer such a spectacular view at the hour of the evening cocktail.

The house is perfect in its comfort and practicality while also being elegant and refined. Endless pressed linen, towels, deck chairs, shady corners for a nap, a practical and well equipped kitchen, great air conditioning, stunning pool cleaned daily (by a very helpful and rather glamorous local shepherd - also called Nikos), brilliant cinema room to occupy kids during the much needed post prandial shut-eye, faultless internet connectivity and first rate sound system in the chic and very comfortable pool area all help towards a dream holiday.

But for me this place is all about the location - it really does take the breath away.

Kalados bay, ten minutes walk away, has two scrumptious tavernas (one v basic and one a little less basic) offering the normal local fare, the swimming options are endless and expectedly excellent and the sense of space, isolation and remoteness second-to-none. For anyone wanting to visit a highly comfortable house in an authentic and unspoiled corner of Greece that still offers genuine remoteness and great beauty then this has to be hard to beat. I only got back last night and I already want to go again. We have been going to Greece every year for over a decade and have never location repeated - I think that may change if this house remains available.

Perfect for Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

Location, location, location -- this beautiful spot, off the beaten track, is a paradise getaway, while having all the comforts of home--including Wifi, computer, TV, music system on the deck, lovely pool, and everything you expect at a luxury hotel, such as comfortable rooms, hair dryers and toiletries.

There were ten of us, with six adults and 4 children--and we all had an amazingly wonderful time at this well-appointed and beautifully located home. We spent most of our time in the outdoor living space, enjoying the pool, bar area, music system, shade and sun & sea views. Plenty of space for everyone to enjoy time all together, in small groups, or alone. The children loved the beach a short drive away. We had several delightful lunches at the Kalados Tavern between swimming sessions. Walking the short distance (20 minutes) to the beach from the villa, was a great photo op, with time to luxuriate in the remarkable sea views.

The accommodations are top-notch in every way. Three of the bedrooms have direct access to the outside, which gives everyone a lot of privacy. The two bedrooms in the main house are very private, too--with the master bedroom having a private deck. The smaller bedroom near the kitchen, with its own toilet and shower, is perfect for a teenager or single guest. It would be acceptable for a couple, too, though less sumptuous than the three larger bedrooms. Our three little girls (ages 5-12) were very happy in the fifth bedroom, where they could share the trundle bed and take turns in the "grotto" space, which was in high demand. In addition, a play room can double as a sleeping space, if needed.

Nikos is a terrific host. He helped us stock up on groceries on the first day in Naxos town and the second day in the quaint town of Filoti, nearer to the villa. He guided us on the drive to the secluded location, gave us tips regarding beach access and the local restaurant (Kalados Tavern Cafe), and answered questions at any time by cell phone. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils--an excellent stove and oven as well as the usual small appliances.

This was a dream vacation in a gorgeous setting with every comfort considered. Lots of steps between levels add to beautiful design, but not for people with disabilities. Get a car with automatic transmission or good clutch (check it) for the mountainous drive and unpaved sections of the road to the villa from Naxos town. Well worth the trip.

When can I go back?

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot sufficiently express how fabulous this home and its owner are. The pictures, while breathtaking, do not do the home justice. This vacation villa was custom built by the owner, who has such an eye for detail. The moment you arrive you know that you are being cared for by someone who truly wishes for you to have an unforgettable experience. It simply outshines our stay in Santorini with ease. My favorite aspect of the home is that it is secluded, so you feel like you are living in luxury on your own island. While the pool was awesome, the real gem was being able to walk down the path to your own private beach cove. The water is crystal clear and you feel as if the island is in the middle of its own sandy swimming pool! I cannot wait to return!

Fantastic vacation, with outstanding hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic vacation, with outstanding hospitality and breath taking view in untouched nature and all inclusive private villa.

Whether you take care of yourself, or use the all-inclusive option you will spend unforgettable days in untouched nature with all you have ever dreamed of your island vacation. We did a mixture of both and enjoyed luxury and adventure.

The villa is fully equipped with high quality furniture and kitchen equipment. All very clean, perfectly serviced and highest standards (the owner lived in Germany and has an engineering degree, speaks several languages and can read your wishes from your eyes). The pool is what you see in Hollywood movies with the option to swim and overlook the see. A few steps down the romantic staircase and you find yourself on your private beach with crystal clear water. Our kids were as excited as the grand parents were pleased.

You will need a car to get around the beautiful island, but this is easy to rent at the jetty of Naxos on the day you arrive. Food and wine can either be shopped in the numerous local stores or you go for the full service option, fill out what you need and get it delivered by the friendly local farmer.

If you ever wanted to live for a few days or weeks on your private villa on an island, this is the best Greece can offer.

And yes, what you see on the pictures you see on the web is what you get on the location.

Certainly we will come back again and tell our friends and family to do so too.

Paradise, Off the Beaten Track!

  • 5 of 5

There are not many unspoiled places like Villa Nascosta left in the world. Imagine a charming traditional Greek villa perched above the sea, near the mountains with beautiful views in every direction and virtually no one else in sight--this is the Villa Nascosta experience! I came to Naxos with a group of friends (we are all in our 40's) because Naxos island is much less touristy and much more authentic than most of the islands in the Cyclades. I chose this property specifically because it is remote, quiet, on the water and away from the town and beach scene. There is only one road to get here, and while most of the road is well-paved and modern, albeit mountainous and curvy, the last few miles to the villa are wonderfully bumpy dirt roads inhabited by free range goats and donkeys (you will need a small SUV and/or all-wheel drive). The closest town (grocery, pharmacy, some restaurants) is Filoti, a 30 minute drive, and the airport and Naxos Town are about an hour's drive. While it certainly is possible to sightsee while staying here (understanding things are a bit of a drive away), the best aspect about this place is the place itself. The villa has all modern amenities and it is lovely and very comfortable. There is an outdoor "living room" next to the wonderful pool that overlooks the sea and is just spectacular. This is where we spent most of our days--it is really unrivaled if you want a peaceful retreat with family or a group of friends. Nikos, the owner, is a wonderful host. He makes himself available as much or as little as you like and he is always available to answer questions, make recommendations, and on occasion, translate. If you don't feel like grocery shopping, the caretaker/groundskeeper will gladly go to town for you. There is a small marina with an outside snack bar (the food is simple, fresh and all locally raised and grown--the homemade sausages are not to be missed!), and a small, charming, family-run local restaurant (also very delicious) about one mile from the villa over the wonderfully bumpy dirt road. The few neighbors are all locals and very friendly. I cannot recommend Villa Nascosta enough! I have traveled far and wide and rented many houses and villas and I can honestly say this is one of the few I dream of coming back to. If you want an authentic, off-the-beaten-track, quiet, beautiful, peaceful setting "away from it all," look no further.
