About this property
Hilltop Baja Hacienda with Ocean & Desert Views
Casa Maldonado was born from a dream—and a deep love for this special corner of Baja. We discovered the neighborhood in 2020 and instantly knew it was where we wanted to be. But it took three years of patient searching before a lot became available in just the right spot. Now, perched high on the hill, we’re surrounded by expansive views in every direction: the endless ocean to the west, the quiet desert stretching east.
It’s peaceful and private here, yet just a quick drive to everything we need. We love that we can walk straight from our front door into the desert and lose ourselves in miles of open space—on foot or bike. And that just down the hill, the sea awaits. We take evening strolls to the shore and fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing under the stars.
Casa Maldonado was designed and built as our dream home. From the beginning, we knew we’d share it with guests, so we poured love and intention into every detail. We didn’t want it to feel like a typical rental—we wanted it to feel like a real home. Comfortable, warm, and welcoming. A place you instantly relax in.
The heart of the home is the open living room and kitchen—a space made for connection. A large, cozy sectional invites you to sink in and unwind while someone stirs dinner in the fully stocked kitchen, framed by sweeping views of the ocean and desert. On nights when we’re not out enjoying live music or dining at one of our favorite local restaurants, we love curling up on the couch, binge-watching a good show. The A/C units in every room keep things comfortable in summer—though with the 12-foot sliding glass doors wide open, the Baja breezes often do all the work.
One of the most special spaces in the house is the brick dining room. Not only does its arched design add a magical architectural touch, but it was built specifically to hold our family’s dining table—a piece we’ve gathered around for nearly 20 years. It brings heart and history to the home.
The pool, too, was thoughtfully placed. Located on the east side of the house, it offers both privacy and a welcome escape from the summer heat—without the harsh afternoon sun. It’s the perfect place to take a dip, nap in the shade, or sip something cold as the desert winds rustle by.
Downstairs, the guest bedroom features a king-size bed and dual closet space for longer stays or simply spreading out. The guest bathroom is tucked close by and the water pressure in the shower is to die for. We also created a tucked-away yet accessible oficina with a desk and bookshelf, offering a quiet space to write, catch up on emails, or simply reflect.
Up the beautiful staircase, the home opens to what we call the “morning room”—a bright, welcoming space perfect for reading, journaling, conversations over coffee, or simply taking in the view as the sun rises. From there, guests can step outside to either the east-facing patio or the west-facing terrace to enjoy sunrise or sunset, without needing to pass through the master bedroom. You can also head right up to the rooftop deck for panoramic views, stargazing, or a sunset drink.
Just beyond a pair of glass French doors lies the master suite. Spacious and serene, it features a comfortable king-size bed, a large vanity with plenty of space to spread out, ample closet storage, and a generously sized bathroom. From bed, you can watch the sunrise over the desert and, catch glimpses of the shimmering ocean on the other side. Step out onto the second-floor patio to sip your morning coffee or drift up to the rooftop for evening cocktails as the sun melts into the horizon. The view is absolutely breathtaking—a daily reminder of how magical this place truly is.
The entire property is fully fenced and gated, providing both privacy and peace of mind. A whole house water filtration system ensures healthy, safe drinking water from every faucet.
More than anything, Casa Maldonado is about slowing down. Connecting with nature. Breathing deeper. We feel incredibly lucky to call it home—and honored to share it with others. Whether you're here for rest, adventure, or inspiration, we hope you leave with a little bit of the magic that lives in this place.
