About Tom Ferguson

Our family moved to Tulsa in 1985 from a tiny town in Kansas, where we had grown accustomed to small town living. To get away from the hustle and bustle of Tulsa, we finally found a little home away from home near Lake Tenkiller when we purchased Big Bear Cabin in 1990. As our kids got married and had kids of their own we needed more space, so in 2000 we acquired Little Bear cabin.

Tom Ferguson purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Tom Ferguson chose Gore

We love the small town feel of the Tenkiller Lake area, and there are so many things to do on the lake or off.

What makes this cabin unique

We all love the fact that most don't even know our cabins are there. They are not viewable from the street, so unless you know the turn-off is there they are our little secret. Nestled perfectly in the mountains, they are are close to our dock and marina, yet within driving distance of several restaurants.

Birthday Weekend with family

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a Friday evening in time to grill dinner. We brought charcoal and used the grill available but noticed there was also a gas grill for use. We stopped in Talequah for groceries-it's the closest nice sized town. We had a little bit of an issue deciding if we were on the right driveway as it is not marked and hard to spot. But I understand that this affords an extra element of privacy, so it didn't bother us much. The owner was very friendly and before our arrival had sent a message to call if there were any problems at all!

The cabin was spacious, clean and cool. I had brought coffee and filters but there were filters there. Very nice size kitchen and full size stove and refrigerator with an ice maker, which was a plus-we cooked all of our meals in the cabin. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs with plenty of dishes, utensils, and cookware. There is also a dishwasher so no need to spend time over the sink doing dishes. Just bring your food, drinks, cooking supplies {oil, butter, pan spray], and seasonings and your good to go.

The bedrooms were clean and beds were comfy-my brother and his wife joined us Saturday night and were impressed with the comfort of the bunk beds. The bathroom was nice and plenty big with endless hot water. Plenty of towels and wash clothes for your use. We brought our own swimming towels for the lake and river.

The living room was comfortable with a nice sized tv and cable, I believe there was a dvd, but we did not use it. Also, wireless internet in the cabin worked perfectly-although cell service was a little off and on.

The best part of cabin, well other than the delightful decor was the front porch. We spent morning and evening enjoying the forest view.

Thank you so much for a very pleasant stay!

Great 3 day stay

  • 5 of 5

Tom was very nice and easy to reach, cabin was clean and had all amenities needed. We loved sitting on the porch in the evening as this cabin is very secluded and quiet. The only upgrade I would suggest is the road in is a little narrow and pulling out onto highway you have to be very careful. Overall we loved it and will be back in the future.

The Cabin delivered as expected

  • 4 of 5

Property was great and secluded. The last 20 yards of the drive in was a little steep though. I wouldn't want to drive it on an icy day.

Nice Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was probably not typical because we were there to attend a family wedding and therefore spent most of our time at an extended family members large lake front cabin and we only dressed and slept at this cabin.

The cabin itself is exactly as described and the master bed was comfortable. Our 2 adult sons were less pleased with the bunk beds but they would be fine for children. The cabin is nice and secluded and surrounded by trees and we are sure this would be a wonderful place for a couple or small family to stay if you are there to enjoy the surrounding area.

Our one warning would be about the road to the cabin. The road is really just a gravel track and some parts of it go up and down small hills. It is a very bumpy ride but our biggest concern was the small hill you have to go up when you leave the cabin. This hill has very loose gravel and we had a little trouble getting up it a couple of times. We were driving a Ford Escape and we recommend that if you stay here you have a car at least as large as an Escape or even better a truck with 4 wheel drive.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. Agreed the road was loose and bumpy. Had not had the chance to have it graded due to the rains.

Great secluded place!

  • 5 of 5

The house was great! It was hidden and secluded, which was nice for us having dogs, they could run around without worrying about a road being close by. It did take us a little while to find the turn in, but I was able to call Tom and he was very nice and helped us find it.
