About Susan Collins
I now live in Baton Rouge, La. but was raised only 17 miles from the cabin in Fort Payne, Al. I love the mountain and built the Guest House so I could be close to those who visited to enjoy their company when they are my personal friends and family but to give them their own space. This mountain is the most beautiful place on earth to me.
Susan Collins purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Susan Collins chose Mentone
I originally looked at brow property but when I saw this property I was hooked. 6 acres, huge River Frontage, Dock to load and unload your boat. Close to everything I need yet truly relaxing, surrounded by nature.
What makes this Cottage unique
Both Cabins on the property have large screened in porches furnished to just Rock or enjoy an outdoor lunch or dinner. The grounds are landscaped with Rhododendron, Azaleas, and Dogwood, all natural to the mountain. Your Dog will surely understand that he/she is on vacation with all the squirrels and birds they can chace. You are within minutes of your daily excursion and you will never run out of interesting activities.

Wonderful long weekend in Mentone!
Our family had a wonderful stay at your cabin. Loved the rustic nature of it and all the decor! It gave us plenty of room to spread out. Loved sitting on the porch early in the morning before the others woke up enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to the birds. It took a while to cool down the upstairs so the first night was a little warm, but after that it was fine. We enjoyed using the fire pit and made s'mores. Also grilled hamburgers one night. Enjoyed kayaking down the river to the dam and back and seeing DeSoto Falls. Also visited Little River Canyon. Went horseback riding at Shady Grove Dude Ranch which took us up the mountain and to the falls. We did have a little mishap, my daughter's horse's legs buckled and he went down and knocked my daughter off landing on her foot and we think she has a couple of broken toes and maybe some bones in her foot, but she was able to continue the ride and walk on it with a little limp. She will get it checked out when she gets home. I felt more sorry for the horse. He did everything he could not to go down fast. We think he might have had something going on with his legs and just tripped. Loved all of the little shops in Mentone. Very quaint and cute! I guess my only complaints would be how warm the upstairs was until the AC kicked in and there was barely any salt in the salt shaker, but really everything was great! Luckily, we had some salt packets in the car. You could probably add a bath rug in the downstairs bathroom. We just dried off real good before we got out of the shower. Overall a very nice, cute cabin and would love to stay here again! Thank you for sharing!
We had a wonderful vacation in Mentone! The house was clean, spacious, had good sleeping beds and plenty of comfortable seating. We especially enjoyed the large screened in porch.
Great cabin! Very relaxing and peaceful place to spend the weekend
Awesome place! We’ll definitely be back
Our favorite place was the back porch overlooking the river..... drinking coffee and hanging out, just enjoying the bird calls and the view! Plenty of sleeping space for our whole family at the cost of a hotel room. When you walk in, the cabin smells like wood. It's in a good location fairly close to Desoto Falls (10 min) and Desoto State Park (15 min), as well as Little River Canyon National Preserve (30 minutes). The boat launch is 1 block down the hill, so Kayaks would be a great thing to bring. The only complaint I have is the woodpecker waking me up early on the first morning.... But that's not exactly something the owners can help, haha. We had the kids draw owl faces on paper plates and put them in all the windows and that stopped the woodpeckers. The long table seats 10 with elbow room, and the beds are comfortable.
Thanks for the nice review. I am so pleased when folks enjoy this piece of paradise.
Cabin was nicely decorated. Plenty of room. Walk to river. Had everything we needed .
So enjoy our guest especially when they enjoy this little piece of heaven in the woods.
Beautiful and relaxing cabin
We enjoyed our stay very much. The cabin was so comfortable. We loved the king sized beds. Susan Collins was more than
Helpful with our questions and concerns. Will stay here again.
So glad you enjoyed this little piece of heaven. I love it so much and always delighted when someone else does. Please do come back, love having you.
Scenic Lookout Mountain offers State and National Parks within min of the cabin. Walking trails abound see Little River Canyon, the deepest gorge East side of the Miss. River. Little River falls is one of the most beautiful falls you can view from well designed trails. Wonderful Swimming and fishing in Little River which only 1/2 mile from Cabin opens in to a beautiful lake. Homeowners association stocks lake regularly. The State parks do offer a swimming pool. There are 4 golf courses within a 20 mile radius of the cabin and one of my favorite restaurants in the US is only 30 min away in Trenton, Ga.
