Charming Homes In An 18th Century Tavern

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,690 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

Apartment close to golf and spa

Located in the heart of the Euganean Hills, close to Padova, Verona, Vicenza and Venice, in an area whose beauty has inspired poets from Petrarch to Shelley, Ca’ Bergolo is a lovingly restored former tavern. Farm workers and gardeners from the neighboring Villa Barbarigo, one of the most important baroque gardens in the world, would come here for a glass of wine and to share news. Today Ca’ Bergolo is in a quiet location close to golf courses, spas, mountain biking trails and Palladian villas. The stone house has been respectfully restored keeping its unique character while making it comfortable for modern living.

The apartment sleeps six to nine and has a large, stone-paved living room with a characteristic “taverna” fireplace. The kitchen and dining area can be supplemented by using the outdoor patio shaded by an awning for al fresco dining. Upstairs the large loft-like bedroom has a beamed and raftered ceiling and is furnished with a double bed and armchairs. Charming views over the garden and out buildings of Villa Barbarigo are made even more romantic by a comfortable couch in front of a working fireplace. The stone-fitted bathroom has a large shower, bidet, toilet and sink. A double bedroom has a raftered ceiling and ceiling fan. The en suite bath has a large footed bathtub and stone fittings. The twin bedroom has a balcony that looks over Villa Barbarigo and also has an en suite bathroom with a shower. The couch in front of the fireplace downstairs can pull out to become a double bed while the couch in the study can pull out and become a double bed. The guests there can use the downstairs bathroom with shower.

Free parking is available just outside the property and WiFi internet is included. Utilities within reason are also included. Three hours cleaning weekly are included for stays over one week.

Please note that there is not a pool on the property, but La Contea, a thermal pool with spa facilities, is nearby and has dedicated spaces for children.

About Luca

I have loved Ca' Bergolo since I was a boy and my father was lucky enough to buy one of the few properties that the owners of the Villa Barbarigo complex have ever sold. When he left it to me I realized that it needed work, so I restored it over the course of a year. The house is now just as I wanted it: charming, beautiful and efficient.

Luca purchased this house in 1970

Why Luca chose Valsanzibio

Ca' Bergolo is one of the few houses from the Villa Barbarigo property to have been sold to date. The views over the Villa's garden are one of the life's small joys for me. The area is also wonderful for dining, wines, golf, mountain biking and spa treatments. Even a short visit to Valsanzibio is like a vacation to me.

What makes this house unique

I love the views from this house. I also love the fireplaces and the rustic, ancient feeling that comes with the stone floor and the beamed and raftered ceilings. The house is cozy yet easy to care for and just the right size for me and friends.

Ca' Bergolo (sleeps 6 to 10) is very close to the Golf Club Padova, right on the mountain biking trail and just a short drive away from the spa at Abano Terme. The area is also wonderful for walking and hiking.

Wonderful, very well equipped property in a classical garden setting

  • 5 of 5

This property is very comfortable, with many modern upgrades, particularly in the kitchen and bathrooms, while leaving the old charm of the other rooms intact.

lovely spacious property

  • 5 of 5

The property was bib enough for extended family to have their own privacy and bathrooms

Private enclosed garden was great for the small children.

Had all the essentials in the house that were needed, kitchen was very well equipped.

Luca the manager was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. The starter pack of food was very useful for the first night until we could get to the shops.

We could walk straight up into the hills from the house which was great for those who wanted a pre- breakfast walk or run. The garden next door is amazing we particularly loved the maze.

The villa is located perfectly to get around the area.

The only thing that we would have liked would have been some comfortable garden furniture and a bigger outside table to fit the number of guests

Wonderful location in the heart of the best white wines of Italy

  • 5 of 5

The location of Valsanzibio was beautiful, everything we needed was only minutes away. Bakeries, grocery stores, fabulous restaurants, train station and world class gardens. The old tavern was loaded with charm and we loved eating out under the pergola the few days we cooked our dinner. LMB

lavely place

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at the Cavalli apartment for a wonderful week. The house was very spacious and well appointed. It had everything we needed and more to make for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.??The location is excellent. A 5 minute drive to Monselice which is a great town. The train from Monselice takes you to Padua in 25 minutes, Venice in 50 minutes. There is plenty of easy parking near the railway station.?? The views on the Barbarigo Garden and its hedge maze planted in the 1600's are wonderful. They gave us maps, brochures and told us about the area and stores nearby to purchase staples.?? Space to park our car on the grounds and short distances to many wonderful restaurants and sites. A very relaxing area and a perfect location to explore. All the modern conveniences, TV, free WiFi, well equipped kitchen, laundry facilities! We greatly enjoyed this visit and would not hesitate to recommend it highly to a family or couples who want a lovely get-a-way. It is a place that we want to go back to and enjoy in the future.

A very enjoyable stay

  • 5 of 5

We are two couples who went to Italy looking for a relaxed holiday. We can happily report that our vacation at Ca’ Bergolo was enjoyable and wonderful. Location: The house is located about 30 km south of Padua, in a nice country side area, close enough (by car or train) to places we planned to visit.

Easily reach the beautiful cities of Padua, Vicenza, known for its architectural buildings, Verona and its famous R&J veranda or just "went lost" in the country side. Venice - easily reached by a convenient train. The train station is located in Monselice, 10 min drive from the house, so we went twice to Venice enjoying the Art Biennale and the city (takes about an hour). Lake Garda and Sirmione's city are reachable too, or you can stop there on your way to or from Milan. The house is located at the bottom of the hill, so if you'd like to burn some extra calories, climb via the old village part up to the forest and back. House: We found an old beautiful traditional stone house with front yard, facing the beautiful neighborhood "geometry" designed garden of Villa Barbarigo.

In the interior, the house is refurbished with a fully equipped modern kitchen in the ground floor and second floor which is divided into to two separate private sleeping rooms, each one en-suite bath/shower and toilet. It was perfectly made to assure full privacy. One sleeping room is still equipped with the original beautiful wooden ceiling beams. The other room has a nice view facing the neighborhood "geometry" designed garden of Villa Barbarigo. We found the house perfectly matched our expectations! Eating: As we love cooking, the idea was to buy local products and prepare our own gourmet meals.

The kitchen was fully equipped for this task and in the garden there is a charcoal grill. In the garden, we found a nice "collection" of herbs such as – parsley, rosemary, thyme, basil, salvia, etc. that improved very much our cooking' creativity. We managed to eat almost all breakfasts and dinner in the garden "celebrate" with good food and good wine! If you do love doing the same, this is the place!! Owners Were very friendly and cooperative, gave us all the instructions we needed. We arrived on a Sunday late afternoon and they were kind to leave some food products for us, such as pasta, drinks, eggs, bread, fruits, etc. refusing to get paId for that! We appreciated this gesture very much. Thank you, Clare & Pietro, for your hospitality.

space for family

  • 5 of 5

My family spent two weeks in wonderful Ca'Bergolo. The view on the Villa Barbarigo garden was just part of the loveliness: rolling wooded hills and green all around.?The beautiful, large 200-300 year old stone house did not disappoint. Well restored and upgraded with modern plumbing and lighting, well appointed, luxurious bathrooms, two fully equipped kitchens, laundry facilities.?Very much a tranquil setting after the days touring (a large scale local map is a must) of the many nearby places of interest... Venice, Padova, Verona, Vicenza and even smaller places like Chioggia etc. ?A clean first class property which I am recommending to all and looking forward to revisiting.

The Euganean Hills (Colli Euganei) are a group of spent volcanoes between Padua and Venice perfect for a wide range of open-air activities, wellness treatments and gourmet pleasures. Just visible from Venice, these hills have been celebrated for their picturesque beauty and their curative hot springs for centuries. Petrarch found harmony towards the end of his life at nearby Arquà, now called Arquà Pertarca. He discovered the village in 1369 and in a letter wrote: 'I have built me a house, small, but pleasant and decent, in the midst of slopes clothed with vines and olives.' The house is still there and Arquà is well worth a visit, especially at sunset. Percy Bysshe Shelley also wrote 'Lines Written in the Euganean Hills,' after a visit to the area. A national park since 1989, the Colli Euganei enclose fifteen towns: Abano Terme, Montegrotto Terme and Galzignano Terme all have spas and thermal baths, while Monselice is famous for its Castle and the Seven Churches Sanctuary and Este was the seat of the famous d’Este family. The park is wonderful for hiking and mountain biking and the area boasts four golf clubs that count a total of 81 holes. Golf Club Padova has 27 holes and is walking distance from the house. People staying at Ca' Bergolo can swim year round and have mud baths etc at La Contea, just 5 km away.

The area is also famous for its wines, food and beautiful villas making it a perfect place for people who want to tour, explore, exercise and enjoy the fine things in life.
