About Martine Leonie
We are two happily retired Canadians who ended our research, teaching and administrative careers at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine right here in Sint Maarten. World travelers throughout our 50 years together, life has provided opportunities to live and work not only in the tropics but also in the temperate and arctic regions of the world. We now divide our time between months here at Tradewinds, time at our new garden suite on the west coast of British Columbia, criss-crossing the continent in our new RV and visiting family and friends around the world.
Martine Leonie purchased this Bungalow in 2002
Why Martine Leonie chose Maho
Tradewinds 309 is a five minute walk to the island's best beach! It was easy to beat a well-worn path to our favorite spot with beach chairs and insulated picnic bag in hand. The charm and the extraordinary beauty of the Caribbean Sea lures us, in fact pulls us back year ofter year to this lovely retreat. Beautiful sunny days are the norm here which warms our soul and presents a stark contrast to those many years living in the arctic as a research scientist. Birds wake us up now, slow morning brew on the verandah, leisure meals on the porch, reading in the hammock, gardening and eating fruit in season - floating in the pool or in the sea - all contribute to the lure of our island home which we want to share with you. Our hope is that you enjoy it as much as we do.
What makes this Bungalow unique
Island time - a laid back pace for living that begins on this lovely south-facing front verandah overlooking our garden. And then there's the hammock - calling us out beneath the twin palms. Bring your book, it says. Better yet - come for your nap! Living here affords us the time and the inclination to watch the tomato plants begin again after Hurricane Irma drove the seeds underground. Living here invites us to count the gardenia flowers ready to burst from freshly sprouted branches. Bananaquits suck nectar next to hummers. Morning doves prefer the seeds we offer in bird feeders large and small.

We found the property to be just as the photos showed and better than described!
We were met by Martine at the property as previously arranged and was informed of all the important things to note about coming and going from the property. The home was extremely well appointed with copper pots and pans and all the basic cooking utensils. It was a very lovely home with interesting books, art and artifacts. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at St. Maarten and would highly recommend this home. It has security 24/7, a nice pool, grill, hammock and is in a quiet part of the island in Cupecoy. Martine made herself available for any problems we may have encountered during our stay and followed up with us mid-week. We had no issues with the property. We used the snorkel gear at Mullet Beach and visited nearby restaurants. Martine was a terrific host/property manager.
Thanks Nancy, and I hope we will meet again soon. It was a pleasure having you.
Fantastic time in my new home away from!
What a lovely villa we spent our vacation in! It is set in a gated community with a big pool and lovely gardens.
The villa is spacious, clean and homey, we loved the library.
We read a lot of books lounging at the pool.
What a great place to relax and enjoy.
This is our favorate home away from home and we will be back!
