Stylish moor cottage in East Frisia

Our stylish, over 100-year-old Moorkate captivates with its charm, uniqueness, and location! It’s nestled in the countryside, surrounded by forests and meadows dotted with cows, on the outskirts of the beautiful town of Leer in East Frisia. The house stands freely on moorland and has thus developed its own distinctive character over the decades—many parts have become a bit crooked, but this is precisely what gives the house its great charm. It is surrounded by a garden with mature trees and features a sheltered patio overlooking the countryside. The cottage accommodates up to 4 adults and two children (not suitable for toddlers).<br>The heart of the lovingly furnished cottage is the spacious, converted former stable wing (Gulf), featuring an inviting rustic wooden table that seats the whole family. Several small seating areas, a former semi-open hayloft, and plenty of wood create a cozy atmosphere. From the stable, a staircase leads to the “Schwalbennest” (Swallow’s Nest), which sleeps up to three people. From the main room, you can also access the bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom featuring a tub, washing machine, and dryer. There is also a very charming country-style kitchen with open wooden shelves. Next to it is a typical East Frisian “Butzenzimmer” with a stove and TV, which serves as a living room but also contains two “Butzen” (alcoves) that are particularly well-suited as sleeping areas for older children (length approx. 1.80 m). Another small shower room is also available. <br><br>The distance to the city center is about 5 km; the nearest shopping center (Emspark) is about 2 km away.<br>There are numerous excursion options within East Frisia by bike or car, and it’s also not far to neighboring Holland (about 20 min).<br><br>This house is a “living” house, as it has no foundations and the peat soil settles during dry periods. As a result, doors may occasionally stick or become impossible to lock, or the floors may slope slightly. This is unavoidable and is part of the cottage’s character, without detracting from the overall sense of well-being. <br>This is the place to relax, unwind, and let your mind wander—you’ll love it!
