THE SETTING
Beautiful indoor-outdoor spaces offer places to gather and places to slip away. Multiple decks overlook the play yard, while garden nooks and secluded seating invite conversation, reading, and quiet rest.
Summers bring long daylight evenings and time together outdoors. Winter brings softened lighting, fireside conversations, and snowfall framed through large windows.
Inside, feather duvets, linen bedding, natural materials, and thoughtful lighting make the house feel welcoming. Mountain murals bring Alaska into the rooms—and tend to stop guests mid-sentence.
A FEW SURPRISES
Families and groups will enjoy the removable slide, swing set, hammock, and trampoline. At least one guest has declared that 60 is absolutely young enough for the slide.
Then there’s the secret playroom, deliberately not pictured because some surprises deserve keeping. Discovering it feels a little like stumbling into Narnia, complete with toys and a little kitchen. The cries of joy when children find it are a delight all their own.
EXPLORE ALASKA
Hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, glacier adventures, and scenic day trips are all within reach. Explore Palmer, Hatcher Pass, the Matanuska Glacier, and surrounding mountain areas, then come home to dinner and an evening together.
Whether your days are full of adventure or mostly spent moving between the coffee nook, library, and fireplace, there’s room here to enjoy Alaska at your own pace.
STORIES FROM THE HAUS
Since opening, Story House has welcomed families, friends, couples, leadership retreats, and wedding groups. The following reflections bring together feedback guests have shared with us.
STAY · For the well-traveled, the whole family, and the wonderfully curious
Guests who’ve stayed in beautiful places around the world tell us Story House feels wonderfully different—and they want to return.
Large families have found room to deeply enjoy being together: long conversations, shared meals, and a library someone immediately claims as their favorite room.
Others remember the unexpected details—the mountain murals, the hidden playroom, or discovering that the slide is quite enjoyable at any age.
PLAY · Finding something unexpected
At community gatherings, guests have marveled at how beautiful and unexpected the space feels. They linger, explore, and ask what’s happening next.
ESCAPE · Room to simply be
BE — A little room to yourself
Some settle into the library, others into the spa. Being here together can still leave room for everyone to enjoy their own quiet.
BESTIES — Time with your people
We’ve hosted groups of women and friends who simply love spending time together. No grand occasion required. The Spa Cottage, opened in fall 2026, gives them one more place to settle in.
BEAU — Just the two of you
One couple chose a two-night private Escape. What delighted them was having more than a room: the coffee nook, Great Room, library, and an entire property to enjoy at their own pace. They left feeling rejuvenated.
CELEBRATE · Moments that become memories
Guests have described celebrations here as some of the most beautiful they’ve attended.
Some of our favorite moments happen before anyone arrives. As couples imagine their walk down the aisle—with their people gathered close and Story House’s spaces and décor made personal to them—every couple so far has been moved to tears during planning.
PLANNING YOUR STAY
This Vrbo listing is for overnight accommodations—a home base for multi-family vacations, Alaska adventures, restorative weekends, creative retreats, and time with the people you rarely get under one roof.
Story House also offers separately arranged celebrations for up to 50 guests, including semi-inclusive, multi-day packages. Events require advance approval and a separate agreement; they are not included with an overnight reservation.
If your visit includes a wedding, event, or additional visitors, please discuss your plans with us before booking so we can confirm the arrangements.
Whether you come for an Alaska adventure or simply to be together, the rare luxury here is time—the kind that becomes the stories you tell for years to come.
