About Jamie Wood

We are Jamie and Joan Wood have lived in Campbell River for 35 years. We have 2 children and brought them up with a lot of outdoor activities. We love Campbell River as it has every thing to offer.

We love to ski, fish, play tennis, golf and hike. We have a place in the mountains called Moat Lake which is on a 13 acre island in the Strathacona park

Jamie Wood purchased this house in 1946

Why Jamie Wood chose Campbell River

The house is a vintage house which was in the family since 1946. My granparents lived in the home and were pioneers in Campbell River.

It has the original hardwood floors, rock fireplace insert, and beautiful ocean views from every window. You can lay in the master bedroom and look out on the ocean, There is lots of greenspace as we have a vacant lot next to the house. Lots of parking, for family functions, weddings, etc.

You can cast your fishing rod right in front of the house, and catch fish.

We have a fire pit on the beach, for a bon fire. You can see all kinds of birds, eagles, herons, seagulls. Eagles are nesting in a tree right on the property.

There is all kinds of sealife to watch from sealions to whales to porpoises.

What makes this house unique

Beautiful Sunrises and Sunsets. Fantastic Scenery and Wildlife viewing.

Walk on waterfront property, your own private beach. Lots of driftwood for those bonfires at night.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Jamie and Joan have updated their family heritage cottage to make it comfortable and cozy. We were greeted with a blazing fire and a nice bottle of wine on arrival. The cottage is spacious with comfortable seating, and beds and is well equiped. We appreciated the added touches of candles and nice soaps and "beach" decor. Although our stay was late September, early October we were fortunate to have amazing weather. Every morning, coffee in hand, we sat in front of the picture window and were greeted with spectacular sunsets mountain views and wildlife including seals, otters, many types of waterfowl, eagles hunting on the water and feasting on fish on the beach. The beach is a bit rocky but our dogs loved exploring. We had only inteded to stay for a week but we just couldn't bear to leave so added two more nights. The finale on our last evening was a full moon with a spectacular light show on the water. This is such a magical place which enriches the spirit. We highly recommend the "Beach House" if you are planning a trip to Campbell River either as a couples getaway or a family vacation.

We also must add Jamie and Joan are very accommodating hosts and we are especially gratefulfor the additional time they spent to return a purse we had left behind. Joan, maiing the empty purse, while Jamie etransferred the cash contents and dealt many days with his bank who managed to mess it up. Thank you Jamie and Joan for your extra efforts and for letting us stay in your family cottage . We hope to be able to come again.

We also recommend the Campbell River Museum, The Maritime Centre, The Native Art Gallery, Fisherman's Wharf, Elk Falls and hiking trails (bear sighting possible, wear bells).

Magnificent Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This cute, cozy, clean cottage is a must stay! The beach front view couldn't have been any better. From the view and the warm fireplace on a cold miserable weekend, it couldn't have been any more relaxing and stress free. The owners are very welcoming, they seems like life long friends. Thank you Jamie and Joan, we hope to see you very soon!

Best Kept Secret!

  • 5 of 5

This is the third time we have stayed at the 'beach house' as we fondly call it! We had a fabulous time again, relaxing, enjoying the view, the cozy fire and the 'picture perfect' snow!!! It was a winter wonderland and everyone enjoyed themselves! Thank you Jamie for all our attention to the details and the upgrades were awesome! The cottage is so homey and comfortable and the place looked fabulous!!! We hope to return in April for another relaxing weekend. We don't even leave the cottage after we arrive, we just stay and enjoy every moment!! A very special retreat, tranquility, wonderful cozy accommodation, million dollar view, delicious food and good wine...can't get any better than that. Many thanks for everything.

Seaside Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent 8 days in this seaside heritage cottage. It has all the amenities of home. Fantastic location to view wildlife (eagles, kingfishers, seals, otters, and orcas). Great hikes nearby including dog friendly trails and waterfalls (Elk Falls). Watching coastal cruiseships go by while having a bonfire on the beach under the Milky Way stars was a highlight - this is a must see and stay beach vacation year round,

Owner's Response: Hi Merrilee: Thank you for your review, we enjoyed our time with you spending evenings at the fire pit. Thank you for the apple crisp you made from the apples from the trees on the property. There are plenty of apples to use. The crisp was delicous.. We look forward to your next visit again, when you come to Campbell River. Thank you Joan and Jamie

Needs updating and repair

  • 2 of 5

The owner was extremely friendly. The cottage is good size for four people and the ocean view is very nice. We enjoyed having a fire on the rocky beach at night. But the house is very old and you can see the repair was done by an amateur. Lot of bugs, like spiders, were in the house when we arrived. This is as a result of not having screens on two of the windows, which were left open. No air conditioning, so you have to leave the windows open all day. The owner had to replace the washer just after we left. The doors to some rooms did not close properly. The place didn't feel clean because everything was so old. Wifi worked great. Good size TV. The house has everything you need. However, we would not stay at this cottage again unless it was totally renovated.

My husband, teenage son and I stayed in this home for a summer getaway. Right from being greeted with a bottle of wine from the hosts to piles of driftwood to fuel our nightly fire, there was nothing we needed! It was a perfect location to sit back, watch the tides go in and out, view eagles perched in a tree right next door, see the tugboats towing huge barges and cruise ships pass by. The town of Campbell River is only a few minutes away so super easy to get groceries or do the touristy things we came to do. I've told all my friends and colleagues about this wonderful home away from home and can't wait to return the next time we plan a trip to the island.

Great beach vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here from June 24 - July 1, 2016 and loved it! Character home with awesome ocean views and very nice yard too! There were 2 eagles that kept visiting us, along with the seals and heron, and it was so nice to chill out on the beach every night watching the eagles and the cruise ships passing by while we sat in front of the cozy driftwood fire - so nice!!! :) The owner Jamie is also a wealth of local information, and a very cool guy, and he also owns and operates the Moat Lake retreat in Strathcona Park.

Can't wait to go back!!!
