Fall is the perfect time to visit. The water is still warm, the nights are cool and the color has begun to change. Wake to the quiet beauty of Candlewood Lake as morning mist drifts across the water and the first rays of sunlight shimmer across the bay. Begin your day with coffee on the private dock, spend the afternoon swimming, kayaking, or simply relaxing by the shore, and end the evening with a glass of wine on the screened porch as the lake grows still.

Welcome to Golden Shore Cottage—a thoughtfully restored 1961 waterfront retreat where timeless New England charm meets modern comfort. Every detail has been carefully considered to preserve the character of this special home while creating a peaceful escape designed for slowing down, reconnecting, and making lasting memories.

THE COTTAGE

Originally built in 1961, Golden Shore Cottage has been lovingly restored with deep respect for her history. Original hardwood floors, vintage wallpaper in the Garden Room, restored cedar ceilings, and carefully preserved furnishings celebrate the home’s mid-century character, while modern amenities ensure every comfort during your stay.

Though intimate in size, the cottage lives remarkably large. Nearly every space enjoys views of the water, creating a seamless connection between indoors and out.

Whether you’re visiting as a couple, with friends, or as a family of four, the cottage offers an atmosphere that feels warm, relaxed, and unmistakably authentic.

LIFE ON THE WATER

With approximately 75 feet of private waterfront, the lake becomes your backyard. A private, sandy beach is perfect for little ones to enjoy a swim. Bring your boat or rent one during your stay. The dock provides a perfect place to park a boat. The dock remains in the water through the end of September

Spend your mornings fishing from the dock, swimming in bay, or launching a kayak for a peaceful paddle. After a day on the lake, rinse off beneath the outdoor shower before gathering on the deck for dinner or retreating to the screened porch to enjoy the evening breeze.

Inside you’ll find a fully updated kitchen designed for preparing meals, inviting and comfortable living spaces filled with natural light, two beautifully appointed bedrooms, luxury linens, central air conditioning, high-speed Wi-Fi, smart television, and everything needed for a carefree stay.

The screened porch quickly becomes everyone’s favorite room—perfect for morning coffee, afternoon reading, family board games, or lingering conversations long after sunset.

This lakefront home was better than expected! Lety was responsive and informative. My family enjoyed the cozy decor of the house and serenity of the lake. The neighborhood was perfect for morning strolls and the dock was just as amazing for relaxing, sunning and reading. We look forward to a return visit!

I wish I could give 10 stars. The property is gorgeous and immaculate -- the listing photos are exactly what it looks like. Lety has thought of everything, from a well stocked and beautiful kitchen, lake toys like kayaks, a floating mat and a trampoline, to the most wonderful screened-in porch to relax on. We had plans to explore the area but ended up spending most of our time at the cottage. On top of the beauty of the cottage, Lety is an exceptional host. She lives next door, and is one text away with helpful suggestions on where to eat or shop, or evening events in town. She truly wants you to enjoy her home as much as she does, and you can see the love and care she takes in every detail. We will definitely stay in touch, and look forward to another trip to Golden Shore Cottage. Incredible stay. Thank you Lety and Mike!

This is an immaculate waterfront property. The attention to detail inside the home is great. Bedding is very comfortable with many luxious throws around for chilly evenings. I loved the French doors in the master bedroom that walk out to the wonderful screened in porch. The view is wonderful in the kitchen and dining area, as well as from the porch. My spouse loved the coffee station in the kitchen. The dock is awesome! There is a sandy beach to walk into the lake bs rocks at the entrance which make getting in easy! My teens swam and fished all day.The communication with the host was top notch. They even lent my boys some lake items that make the stay even more fun for them! Do not hesitate with a stay here. It is private even with neighbors on each side. Was quiet even in the middle of the summer! I hated to have to leave!

We truly had the best time at Golden Shore Cottage! The pictures were what drew us in, and we had hoped the place would live up to our expectations. It truly surpassed our expectations with attention to detail and high end taste! We wanted a small place since we had planned to spend most of our time outside, and it was perfect for our family of four with two active boys. I can see why it is listed as a boutique stay because the owner, Lety, ensured we had everything we needed! The amenities, especially the outdoor “toys” were amazing! Kayaks, paddle boards, floating mats, and more were available to us, and Lety made sure everything was the right size for my kids! The outdoor space is wonderful whether you want to play in the beautiful Candlewood Lake or just want to sit and relax on the dock, patio, or fully screened in porch! The town of New Milford was quaint and quiet, which was really appealing to our love of walking around and enjoying some delicious food! We decided to forgo that on our last night and enjoy takeout on the patio, however the kitchen is built to create beautiful, gourmet meals! All in all, we made beautiful memories at the Golden Shore Cottage and we are already figuring out when we can return! Thank you to Lety and Mike for an amazing getaway for my family and I!

This house is beautifully cared for, and it shows in every detail. Inside, everything has clearly been considered, from the layout to the little touches. Outside, there are several great spots to relax by the lake, and we found ourselves using all of them throughout the day.The hosts were as hospitable as they come, warm and responsive without ever being intrusive. We had an incredible stay and would come back in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

I cannot say enough good things about how wonderful a stay we had at Golden Shore Cottage. The process of setting up our reservation was very smooth. When we arrived, we were so pleased at how clean, comfortable, and attractive the cottage is. The host, Lety, has thought of everything. From all the conveniences in the kitchen, to lens wipes in a heart shaped bowl next to the bed, there is no detail overlooked. Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay. Our children enjoyed kayaking and trying paddle boarding for the first time (all available at the cottage) to swimming in the lake, showering in the outdoor shower, and eating snacks out on the deck. We had everything we needed to enjoy our time and relax during our stay. The beds are comfortable, there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy a meal, play a board game, watch a movie, or just relax on the deck with a cool drink. Everything is as beautiful as it looks in the photos. We enjoyed being nearby a variety of activities. However, just relaxing at the cottage and enjoying the beautiful view of the lake would have been enough of a vacation. Again, I cannot say enough great things about the host, the cottage, and our stay in New Milford.

We absolutely loved our stay at this charming cottage on Candlewood Lake! It was the perfect blend with so many special touches. The lake views are absolutely breathtaking, and the location was great- close to everything while still feeling peaceful and relaxing.Our family spent countless hours enjoying the lake! Swimming from the pristine little beach, paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing right off the dock. We are originally from NYC and came upon the lake through friends. Years ago we considered ourselves beach people. But after renting for a summer, the whole family knew we never wanted to leave the magic of this lake.

Sunrises and sunsets, on the lake, are our favorite times of the day. But there is a lot to do around town. The town of New Milford is iconically New England…think Gilmore Girls. There is so much to do in town during the summer months with outdoor concerts, markets and festivals. The restaurant choices are wonderful.
