About this property

Apartment/Cottage - Punta Gorda Historic District Near Gilchrist Park

Charming private cottage sits on the grounds of a beautifully preserved 1921 Craftsman home built by the Wotitzky family, one of Punta Gorda's most storied founding families. Genuine Florida history, in a neighborhood where the streets still have the same bricks they were laid with over a century ago. The cottage is entirely your own. You come and go through your own private entrance, completely separate from the main house, with no shared spaces and no awkward hallway encounters. Inside you'll find a comfortable, well-appointed space with a complete kitchen including a refrigerator and microwave with everything you need to cook real meals, a private bathroom, high-speed WiFi, and a Smart TV for the evenings when you just want to settle in. When the weather is doing what Florida weather does, step outside to your private outdoor seating area and let the day wind down at its own pace. What makes this location genuinely special is what's right outside your door. Gilchrist Park is less than a block away, eleven acres of waterfront green space along Charlotte Harbor with walking paths, a fishing pier, picnic areas, and some of the most stunning sunset views in all of Southwest Florida. On a clear evening the sky turns colors that are hard to describe and you'll want to be outside for it. From the cottage you can walk to some of Punta Gorda's best local restaurants, browse the shops along Marion Avenue, or follow the brick sidewalks down to Fishermen's Village on the waterfront, all without ever getting in a car. On Saturday mornings the Farmers Market fills downtown with more than 70 vendors, live music, fresh seafood, and local goods. It's one of those mornings that reminds you why people fall in love with small Florida towns. For those who want to get out on the water, Charlotte Harbor puts world-class fishing right at your doorstep. Tarpon, cobia, grouper, red drum, and snook are all running these waters and local charter captains know exactly where to find them. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are easy to arrange, dolphin boat tours leave from Fishermen's Village, and the city keeps free loaner bikes at the waterfront so you can explore the entire historic district without moving your car once. When you do want to venture further out you're well positioned. Englewood Beach and Boca Grande are about 45 minutes west, Fort Myers and Sarasota are roughly 45 minutes in either direction along I-75, and Punta Gorda Airport, genuinely one of the least stressful airports in Florida, is just eight minutes from the front door. A few things to keep in mind before you book: this is a non-smoking property, no pets please, and the minimum stay is three nights. The cottage sits in a quiet, well-loved residential historic neighborhood and we ask that guests be respectful of that character. It's the kind of street where neighbors wave and people actually know each other, and that's exactly what makes it worth staying on. Honestly, the hardest part of staying here is leaving. The pace slows down, the sunsets are real, and downtown Punta Gorda has a quiet way of making you wonder why you don't just stay. Three nights is enough to start asking that question out loud. Minimum stay three nights. Check your dates and grab them while you can.

About the host

Hosted by Steve or Jacqi

Host profile image
We like to travel, spend time in the garden together and walk our dog along the harbor here in Punta Gorda. We also enjoy sharing our slice of the Florida Gulf Coast with guests from all over. Steve's background is in interior design and renovation, so every property we host is thoughtfully designed and furnished, not just filled with furniture. We're big on making guests feel like locals, and we're always happy to point you toward our favorite restaurants, beaches, and hidden spots nearby. We can't wait to host you!

Why they chose this property

Native Floridians, we love Punta Gorda and enjoy the people, the walkability of the city and access to great dining. The historic district has that small-town, waterfront charm, tree-lined streets, golf carts buzzing by, and neighbors who actually wave hello. You can walk to Gilchrist Park right on the harbor for an evening stroll or a sunset, bike the Harborwalk along the water, or head into Fishermen's Village for waterfront dining and live music. On Saturday's the farmers market takes over downtown with local produce, flowers, and food trucks. It's the kind of place where you can leave the car parked all weekend and still see and do everything.

What makes this property unique

What sets our cottage apart is the location paired with the care that went into it. You're tucked into a quiet street in Punta Gorda's Historic District, just a block from the harbor and downtown, yet the cottage itself feels private and set apart from it all. It's the kind of place where you can walk to dinner, bike the Harborwalk, and still come home to somewhere that feels like your own.
