About Michele Guyard
After living in several countries, my French husband and I (American) returned to the home his family has lived in for several generations. The cottages are in the same hamlet, so we can provide advice on what to do in the region or in Paris. We are friendly hosts.
Why Michele Guyard chose Les Marêts
My husband grew up in this hamlet, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and before. The Brie region is beautiful; one of the 'breadbaskets' of France with its vast fields of wheat, corn, barley...
What makes this House unique
In a well kept park with a lake. View on the garden and the private lake. The cottage is only an hour from Paris (by train to avoid driving) and Disneyland. It is also the perfect and quiet spot to discover the "Champagne road" (little villages, good restaurants, caves), many castles (Fontainebleau, Vaux le Vicomte, La Motte Tilly), la Roseraie in Provins...

Perfect accommodation, away from it all
Just returned from a glorious week's stay at the cottage. My wife and I , together with our 12 year old daughter could not recommend the place highly enough. It has been renovated to an excellent standard with plenty of outdoor space.
The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, with a lovely bathroom and well equipped kitchen.
The area is very remote and the use of a car is a must, the local town of Provins (20 mins away) is stunning with all the amenities you'll need.
We went to Disney Paris for a couple of days which is a very easy 45 minute drive.
This is a definite get away from it all location, exactly what we wanted.
The site stated a DVD player and cable TV, neither of which were available and the Wi-Fi is a little slow.
None of this was a problem and we just relaxed and read a little more.
Sorry for cable tv and cd ... we did not realize it was indicated as existing. We withdrew it immediately. As for TV, it is a normal TV with antenna and numerous channels.
A beautiful cottage in beautiful and peaceful countryside
My wife and I spent a wonderful week in this delightful cottage in the Brie area. Michele and Alain are a lovely couple and were most welcoming. The property itself is a converted farm building dating way back. Alain has completely rebuilt the interior using many of the original oak timbers. Quality materials have been used throughout, resulting in a home which is both bright and cosy.
The property is set in a small hamlet of ten houses. To the rear of the cottage is an extensive garden planted with roses and lavender. Beyond is a small lake bordered by poplars which is pure idyllic rural France. It's worth taking a gentle stroll round it.
The cottage is just 20 minutes or so drive from Provins. This is a beautiful town whose old quarter is stunning and whose buildings date back to medieval times. There are some excellent highlights which are a must do. For us, the most interesting was the Tithe Barn. It was packed with information which gave a real insight into life in medieval times. A close second was a guided tour of the underground passages beneath some of the main buildings. Also worth a visit is Caesar's tower, perched atop the highest point of the old town.
You are only a short distance from the Champage area and a drive along the Champagne Trail is well worth doing. The small towns and villages in the surrounding countryside each have their own character and we also enjoyed a very pleasant drive along the Seine.
Finally, if you're into photography, I suggest you take a very large memory card!
A wonderful retreat close to Paris.
This is a Beautiful place to stay. The lake and peaceful countryside is your back garden. The Cottages are very well presented and immaculately clean. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom modern. The kitchen has a lovely farmhouse feel which compliments the modern units. The log burner stove was a favourite and we enjoyed bbq's in the garden. The photos do not give the décor justice. We found the cottages to be a charming place to stay, The owners Michelle and Alain are wonderfully welcoming but do not impose in any way. Disneyland Paris is a pleasant 45 min drive away. Supermarkets are open all hours on the outskirts of Provins about 7 miles away and bakeries are closer. Do not hesitate to book, we certainly hope to return.
Lovely countryside retreat!
This house is quite wonderful. Our family thoroughly enjoyed everything about the house. The lake is wonderful for a quiet walk or jog. We had our two teenage boys with us and we were all very comfortable. The owners are wonderful people and willing to help with directions and ideas for touring the country. We usually stay in Paris, but now have a secret hideaway only an hour away. You will love this place! ~PS Great for English speakers~
Lynelle and family, Merci for your lovely review and for leaving the house so organized. We hope to come through San Francisco one day... Best, Michele & Alain

The house is only an hour's drive from Paris and Disneyland. It is also the perfect and quiet spot to discover the "Champagne road" (little villages, good restaurants, caves), many castles (Fontainebleau, Vaux le Vicomte, La Motte Tilly), la Roseraie in Provins, Chablis, Troyes, Sens... Go by train in Paris from Provins if you want to avoid driving ... Paris is one hour by train.
