About Linda Brentano & Charley Orth

The property is owned and managed by Linda Brentano, and Charley Orth. We are a married couple with different last names. Linda is a Career and Business Coach who delights in helping people with career and life planning, particularly for the second half of life. Check the Swan Lake Cabins website or ask Linda about upcoming retreats that may be scheduled. Or if you are feeling in need of some recharge time, feel free to ask Linda for help designing a personal retreat or to schedule individual coaching. Coaching can be done while taking a walk or while enjoying the inspiring views from the Hummingbird House porch. Linda can also help with scheduling on-site massage appointments.

Early is his career Charley was trained in Culinary Arts which he enjoys putting to use in preparing delicious breakfasts for cabin guests.

You will also see Charley's special touches as a craftsman in the custom cabinets and special finishing touches in Hummingbird House.

Linda Brentano & Charley Orth purchased this house in 2012

Why Linda Brentano & Charley Orth chose Flathead Lake

Linda's brother, Glen Stout, was the original owner of Swan Lake (Guest) Cabins, which he established in 1996, after moving to Montana from Portland, Oregon. Glen was an iconic figure who was very well known in the area. If you have breakfast or lunch at the very popular Echo Lake Cafe, check out the second stool from the right at the counter as you enter and you will see a little plaque with Glen's name.

In 2012, Linda and Charley purchased the cabin property from her brother's estate. Linda and Charley had long dreamed of having a Bed and Breakfast/ Retreat Center where Linda could do coaching and facilitate retreats and Charley could put his passion for cooking and craftsmanship to work. It felt like we were being called to move to Montana from Oregon to build on Glen's tradition with our unique backgrounds and interests.

We have been heartily welcomed by the Bigfork community and are delighted to steward this very special property and attend to the needs of our wonderful guests. We are still amazed by the beauty of this very special part of Montana.

We had a wonderful time here. I think we over-packed; almost everything we needed was provided! We brought our 9 months old with us and were a little worried about the stairs... but we were surprised to find 2 baby gates ready for us to use! Thank you again for letting us enjoy your wonderful cabin!

Well equipped, perfectly located!

  • 5 of 5

The Hummingbird house was great. We stayed here for the Spartan race in bigfork, and it worked out perfectly, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The house has beautiful views of Swan Lake and the surrounding area.

Best property in the development

  • 4 of 5

Perfect house for grandparents and grown children with THEIR children!

As the rental for 5 days was very expensive, I will point out my impression of a couple of items.

There was no hairdryer in the downstairs master bathroom.

The kitchen sink did not hold dish washing soap more than a few minutes. The strainer/basket does not hold water.

I do not know if it a mandatory thing NOT to have an in sink disposal, but disposing of coffee grounds, etc. tends to

be tedious when trying not to let anything slip into the sink!

On the positive side, the "fire circle" outside was awesome! We loved this and enjoyed the outside every evening. We even indulged

in marshmallow roasting with the youngsters.

Thank you, we truly enjoyed our time in Montana!

Owner's Response: We're very glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay. Thank you for letting us know about the missing hairdryer which enabled us to replace it for future guests. Had you let us know during your stay we could have readily replaced it. Regarding your preference for a garbage disposal, homes outside cities have to be served by private septic systems which are not suited for garbage disposals.

Beautiful Views in a Peaceful Environment

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a house near Kalispell, Montana, for a small family reunion. I had not seen my brother in over two decades and had never met his 20 year-old son. My sister, her husband and their dog spent a day driving from the Seattle area to Kalispell and it was a heartwarming reunion. Gosh how time flies! We found the Swan Lake Cabins easily from the directions Linda provided and Hummingbird House was waiting for us when we arrived that evening, so warm and inviting. The grounds were beautiful and the house was everything we expected and more. Our time together was very relaxing and we had a wonderful time getting to know each other again. The property provided good privacy, and though the Office was immediately under the Hummingbird House, we hardly knew anyone else was around. When we plan our next reunion, we hope that we can stay in Hummingbird House again, and I would definitely recommend Swan Lake Cabins to all those looking for a peaceful and beautiful place to relax with family and friends.

Thank you Linda, for making our stay so memorable!

Beautiful Property with Lovely Owners who Strive to make your Stay Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were recently married at the Swan Lake Cabins property. We first rented the Hummingbird house but also snagged the Cowboy (cabin 5) for a little more privacy, away from our group. The stay was wonderful and the Hummingbird house served as our hub where all the meals were served and had plenty of room for single grandparents and our adult children. The rest of our party was able to rent the additional cabins (cabins 1-4) and Linda and her husband made sure we had everything we needed. The property is nice and secluded, beautiful and oh so peaceful. We had our ceremony overlooking the lake and had plenty of room to set up a small family dinner not too far from the ceremony site. We look forward to visiting again soon and will share photos as soon as we get them back!

Relaxing View of Swan Lake

  • 5 of 5

We recently visited the Big Fork area and stayed here for our 3 night weekend trip. We enjoyed the house very much. It is a very nice, clean house with beautiful views. It was relaxing and comfortable. We didn't have any problems, if we did, we were able to contact Linda and get a very quick response.

The only suggestion we might have was to have an additional couch/loveseat in the sitting area for more comfortable area to sit. We do plan on coming back to the area next year, and hope we can stay here again.

Thanks so much!

Swan Lake
Car: necessary

Located 10 minutes from Bigfork and 50 minutes from Glacier National Park. Just one mile from the 2+ million Flathead National Forest, a lesser known gem where you can enjoy unspoiled nature without the crowds. Golf Digest has named the Flathead Valley as a top 50 golf course Destination with 9 Championship courses within a 45 minute radius.

Bigfork is picturesque village nestled along the banks of the Swan River and the stunningly beautiful Flathead Lake. Bigfork is well known for its Summer Playhouse repertory theater, galleries, shops, restaurants, Eagle Bend championship golf course, and as a base for outdoor recreation and adventure sports.

In the nearby village of Swan Lake you will find the popular Laughing Horse restaurant and one of the best swimming beaches in the area. August is a wonderful time to visit Swan Lake to enjoy the Huckleberry Festival.

The area is also well known as a fisherman's paradise with its host of lakes and rivers which are home to pike, trout, bass, kokanee salmon, and many other species. 170 species of birds frequent the Swan Valley and this area is home to more species of large mammals than anywhere in the lower 48 states. In spring and fall, the area is also amazing for mushrooming, including our favorite, Morels. Wildflowers are another wonderful gift of the area with a wide variety growing on the property. May and June are the best time for Wildflowers on this property with the season arriving later at higher elevations.
