My Father and I had the pleasure of staying in the Kingfisher Cabin for a few evenings in the later part of September, 2014. It was evident from the pictures of the place I saw when I booked it, that we were in for a treat. However, you never get the feel for a place until you are actually there of course. We arrived a bit later than we had hoped, but were greeted by Andre who assisted us with our bags. Upon entering the cabin you immediately have a feeling of comfort, surrounded by a cozy and warm atmosphere. There were slippers provided which were a nice touch, and an easy rise up the stairs to two lovely bedrooms. There was also a 2 piece bathroom on the second floor which was appreciated, especially by my Father. The cabin was not only very clean, but added touches such as the sink in the upper bathroom, stained glass window along the stairs and a perfect night light at the top of the stairs only added to the ambiance. The next morning we awoke to the beauty of the surrounding area. The manor itself is an impressive sight, and the grounds are very well maintained. I would highly recommend you take the short time to hike the forested trail on the upper portion of the property, where you will get a great view over the land below. The small town of Crawford Bay has many artisan shops to enjoy, and the nearby free ferry service across Kootenay Lake opens up many other options on the west side for hiking, sightseeing, shopping and hot springs. Make sure while staying at Wedgewood Estate you take the time to visit Nelson, a beautiful small city set on the banks above the Kootenay River. For another day, take the drive up to the well kept and clean little town of Kaslo, followed by a drive up the logging road to Buchanan Lookout. Afterward, make sure to stop on the way back at the Ainsworth Hot springs. You can't go wrong staying at this place and spending time getting to know the area. A fabulous value as well!

Robin's Nest nice piece of tranquility

  • 4 of 5

My significant other and I just returned from this property. We were pleased with the accommodations, cabin was well equipped and the property was very peaceful. If you like to hike, there are many options on where to go and if you like to relax near the water, there are a few beaches within a short drive. The only thing we were disappointed in is that we came to this location as it was pet friendly and we had noted in our inquiry that we were coming to golf and had a dog we would be bringing, this did not seem to be an issue. However it wasn't until we arrived and got settled that we saw there was a policy that the dog could not be left alone in the cabin. We spoke to the people who were managing the property and the only solution was to tie him up outside which we didn't feel comfortable doing, so this was a huge disappointment, had we known this would be an issue leaving him alone we would have made alternative plans.

Owner's Response: Dear Eryn, Thanks for your feedback on the Robin's Nest and our dog policy. The reason we put restrictions on leaving dogs alone in the cabins is because we have had a few bad experiences with dogs getting very agitated when their families left them alone in unfamiliar surroundings, and in turn harming themselves and the cabin. I am sorry that I did not clue-in when you mentioned that you were bringing a dog and planning on going golfing. I should have recognised that there would be a problem. To avoid this in the future I will put out dog policy on this site. We can also offer a wooden gate that our guests can put across the porch steps for those dogs that are ok with being left alone. Thanks for your kind words about the Robin's Nest and we're glad that you enjoyed the trails and surroundings. Very Best regards, Joan & John

My partner and I just spent 3 glorious days at the Robins Nest cabin. It was an incredible space to wind down , be quiet , recharge and enjoy each other's company. We were not daunted by the rainy days as the cabin supplied all our needs and more. My favorite spot was the claw foot tub upstairs in the loft bedroom , nothing to do but soak relax and daydream with the glorious cedar trees watching from outside!

I would recommend this spot highly for a couple wanting to get away together and just be.

The cabin kitchen is well equipped . We will return to this magical space.
