About the property

Bamboo House and Studio Apartment with mountain view on coffee farm

Bamboo House and additional Cottage on Organic Coffee farm

Enjoy the Bamboo house with stunning panoramic views of Poas volcano and the Central Valley. This is a one of a kind living space designed by the great Costa Rican Bamboo builder, Martin Cato. The hand made bamboo ceiling soars to a glass dome that, at night, focuses the moon beam as it travels across the hand laid hardwood and stone flooring. Natural light illuminates the space from every side for a 360 degree view - see the wondrous multi-colored hummingbirds, butterflies, coffee fields, banana plants and grand colors of the Costa Rican natural surroundings. The house is set in the center of a five acre organic coffee farm. Very private and peaceful. Part of our vision is to live sustainable so the house is solar powered. You can still stay connected via Internet.

We love sitting on the deck late in the afternoon, enjoying beverages, and watching the sun set!

You'll want to hang out all day so we've provided gas stove, fridge and all the cooking utensils. There is a queen bed in the bamboo house and bathroom across the deck. Check out the Virtual Tour in the Photos section!!!

In addition we have an additional cottage adjacent to the house perfect for a second couple or children.

The space has a sofa bed and loft as well as a kitchenette and bathroom. The cottage has a patio with view of Banana trees and the mountains. In addition there is a fire pit and garden area connecting the 2 living spaces. You'll love the locally made artisan bbq grill in the backyard.

Take a tour of the property with Jose, our caretaker. He loves people and is always delighted to show you the farm to cup process. Watch him roast a batch of our rich, tasty coffee - you 'll be drinking the fresh roast the next day. It's akin to eating fresh bread right out of the oven!

About Kimberly Near

Currently we live in Berkeley California and get to Costa Rica as much as possible. We have been loving learning about organic farming and sustainable living. We continue to grow in our appreciation for Costa Rica and look forward to sharing it with others.

Kimberly Near purchased this farmhouse in 2006

Why Kimberly Near chose Poás

We were drawn to the property because of it's incredible views and it's central location to both the city and tourist attractions .

What makes this farmhouse unique

We find it hard to leave the farm and spend most of our time relaxing on the deck of the house watching the hummingbirds and butterflies. Building with natural materials was a great experience and the feel of the house is so different then traditional structures.

I had such a lovely stay here I extended for another 3 weeks. Jose and his family were so nice and helped us with all there needs to know in the area. There is a farmers market every week about 15 minutes away. By bus, taxi I even got Uber to work there. Admire the coffee growing in the surpundimgs and the hummingbird around the house. The organic fruits on the property are the best I’ve ever had. The scenery is always Changing. Thank you so much Kimberly and Michael.

Nice studio apartment in a quiet location. We had a nice time here.

  • 3 of 5

Large room with eating, seating, cooking and sleeping areas. Bathroom separate small building so you have to go outside and then 7 ft to the room. All the kitchen equipment you need except we missed havinga true refrigerator with a freezer. The cold chest did not allow for making ice. Jose is a very friendly caretaker. Grocery store, ATM and restaurants with 10-15 minutes.

Lovely accommodations, wonderful host, quiet and secluded

  • 5 of 5

Super cute place with an amazing view! The Bamboo House was very clean and cozy and the grounds were well kept. As coffee drinkers, we were excited to see a working, organic coffee farm and we weren't disappointed. We enjoyed the tour of the farm given by Jose Luis (the other review did not overstate... he is AWESOME) and the coffee was delicious!

We can't say enough good things about our stay ~ it was so enjoyable. We would definitely recommend staying here if you are planning a vacation to Costa Rica.

Great Cosy place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the farm with our 2 small kids . The caretaker roasted fresh coffee for us every morning and showed us the coffee process and our kids the animals like chickens and cats.

The kitchen was equipped with all you need like salt and pepper, sugar oil etc.

We had an unforgettable time and would recommend it for couples and families.

Coffee Casita near Poas

  • 5 of 5

Great place for a quiet get away from it all. Very safe and rural. Has great water, plumbing and shower facilities, plus we rented both cabins allowing young people and the parental types to have their own space. A nearby walk to bus allows one to get to San Pedro de Poas 4 times per day, with a slightly longer walk allowing us to get a bus about every 30 minutes, near a soda and small grocery store. Property was very much as described and pictured. With walking, we had access to good bus lines to Alajuela. We did the whole week without a rental car, but are very adventurous and enjoy walking between 5 and 7 miles per day in mountainous terrain. Our host on the ground took on on a small coffee tour of the property and showed us the mechanics of from tree to table. He also is well known and regarded in the area and linked us in with folks from other small holding farms. We also went to Poas and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, two very "not to miss" área features. We had many fun adventures and were sad to leave. Will certainly return in 2016.
