About the Property
Waterfront cottage with direct fishing access, boat slip, available sandy beach
For those who like to participate in the salmon fishing run in late summer and fall, you can enjoy staying at the mouth of the Salmon River, in a comfortable, completely renovated cottage right on the river's edge, located right in the heart of the action at the Salmon River Lighthouse & Marina. Lake Ontario is at your doorstep, where you can see the commercial fishing charters leaving for the deep water of the lake in summer and fishing boats trolling for salmon close to the Lake's shoreline in the fall. In the river, right in front of you in August, September and early October, you can see salmon surfacing and jumping as they run up the river. Some days are windy, some are calm, many are sunny and some are brisk, but stay at the Salmon River Lighthouse & Marina and you will immensely enjoy the entire experience. In April, May and June, the action begins with brown trout and then shifts to small mouth bass later in June. No matter what the month, or the mix of weather, the fishing is always great, and you will love being on the River, near the Lake with its private sandy beaches, enjoying the many faces and ever-changing moods of Lake Ontario. The cottage has a well-appointed and comfortable living room and as does the dining room and fully-equipped kitchen, it has a beautiful view of the river. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. The 2 bedrooms will sleep as many as 6 total, with a double bed and a twin bed in each bedroom (4 beds total). Boat slips are available at a discounted rate if you choose to bring your own boat, with a new (2015) boat launch ramp available on-site at the Marina. Or you can also reserve a motorized 12 or 14-foot aluminum boat from the Marina during your stay. But you don't need to be a fisherman to enjoy the full experience at the mouth of the Salmon River. The beach and river are breathtaking and beautiful all season long, and are a romantic spot to enjoy while watching all that is happening on, in and around the River. If you are ready to enjoy a fishing vacation, what better place to stay - right in the middle of all the action the Salmon River and Lake Ontario have to offer....

This cabin is located on the shore of the Salmon River, at the Salmon River (Selkirk) Lighthouse, adjacent to the marina. The Lighthouse was built in 1838 and has been an iconic landmark at the Salmon River for over 175 years, and it is special to stay in a cottage so close to this historic landmark. Also, there is perhaps no better sandy beachfront location on all of Lake Ontario as the one which exists directly across the Salmon River, with views of that beach and the lake directly west, where gorgeous sunsets can be experienced, different every day of the year. Throughout the year, fishing charters leave from our marina, located adjacent to the Waterfront Cottage. Brown Trout fishing is best in spring, with Small mouth Bass and Perch fishing in summer, and Chinook and Coho salmon fishing all through summer and fall, culminating in the dramatic August, September & October Salmon and Steelhead run up the Salmon River. There is no more exciting place anywhere for those who love fresh water sport fishing, perfect for families and friends desiring memorable times together on the water. If you have your own boat, you can launch and dock your boat at the marina during your stay in this cottage. If you don't have a boat, you can rent a 12 or 14-foot boat and motor for fishing or for access to the lakefront beach directly across the river, or you can book a charter for a morning, afternoon, or all day! And you can enjoy all that while staying in a lovely cottage, right on the river's edge at the mouth of the Salmon River. Taking advantage of the beach in the early season (May & June) is tremendous, as often you will share the beach with only seagulls and other shorebirds. The beach is all sand, in the water and out, and is directly across the river. In late summer and fall, as ducks and geese trade up the Lake and the air chills, this cottage is a perfect place for a fishing party, returning to comfort after a day on the Lake or the River. Or, for those who don't like to fish, but love to view the action at the Marina and on the River, the cottage is the perfect place from which to enjoy the natural beauty of the area, watching the fishing charters come and go from the harbor. Day trips to Sackets Harbor, the Thousand Islands, Kingston, Syracuse, Old Forge, the Salmon River Falls and Fish Hatchery and other surrounding sites are all fun activities when looking for excitement other than on the beach or on the water. And if you are looking for a romantic time away from it all, what could be better than being right on the shoreline of the Salmon River enjoying all the activities taking place along the river....
Year Purchased: 2014
About: The 'brothers-in-law' (Mike & Abe) welcome you to join us, as our extended family has been enjoying the Salmon River Point since the 1930s, and we now have many family members and close family friends who own summer homes on the Point and further up the river along Pine Grove Road. Having grown up at the lake, enjoying the fishing, water sports, restful days in the sun and sand, marveling at the way the wind, waves and lake storms can entertain you, with rainy days spent working a jigsaw puzzle or reading a novel while enjoying views of the lake being some of our most memorable times. Or getting to stay up late roasting marshmallows over a beach fire, followed the next morning by a pancake breakfast after returning from fishing with our parents. Small mouth bass and yellow perch fishing used to be the focus of our angling efforts, and those catches are arguably still the best tasting. But in the 1970s, the Salmon fishery developed and since then, Brown Trout can be caught in abundance along the lake shore as the water warms in May and June. The fishing charters run all summer long out to the deep waters of the lake, many departing directly from the Salmon River Marina right at the mouth of the river. In the fall, the fishing gets especially active in the river, as the salmon migrate to run upstream. Year after year, our families and friends have enjoyed this special place and all that it has to offer. In 2014 we purchased and restored the Selkirk Lighthouse, a historic treasure that was built before any of us were born. With renovations of the Lighthouse, the Marina and the 3 cottages completed, we now share this incredible place with others who can appreciate the history and special nature of the Salmon River (Selkirk) Lighthouse & Marina property and what it is to experience staying there. It is our hope that past guests will return with families and friends, time and time again, year after year.
Why Pulaski, NY, USA:
The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and it stands as it has for 175 years at the mouth of the Salmon River, shining its light out across the lake every night. In the shadow of the lighthouse are 3 cottages, with this cottage right on the bank of the river, at the north end of the marina. Across the river is a beautiful sandy NY State Park property beach, bounded to the north by the rock breakwater protecting the entrance to the harbor. It was the construction of the pier in the 1990's that initiated the creation of what is now a beautiful, sandy (very unusual for Lake Ontario) and private beach area we also own contiguous to NY state park land. The sand extends from the beach well into the lake, which makes the shoreline perfect for beach walks and swimming, with no undertow on calm water days. Of course, in fresh (non-salt) water there are no predators, jellyfish, seaweed or similar saltwater negatives. Gazing to the west, you can enjoy refreshing breezes off of the Lake during the day and offshore breezes at night. Lake Ontario will entertain young and old alike as it roars on windy days, making it feel like you are at the ocean (but without the saltwater), with a blazing and stunning sunset over the water very likely to end your day. If you are looking for a beach vacation or some time away from it all, or a special fishing vacation with family or friends, you have found one of the best locations to do just that. The Waterfront Cottage is cozy and comfortable, in a perfect location right on the River, providing a wonderful getaway for fishing with the kids, or enjoying quiet, tranquil time connecting with the natural surroundings. For fall fishermen who want to maximize their enjoyment of the Lake and River when they are not out on the water, there is no finer place.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
In addition to the perfect harbor location, right on the Salmon River, with beautiful sunset views, the cottage is equipped with hi-def cable TV and wireless high speed Internet, so that you can stay connected to the outside world, as much as you need to or want to....
