'For Old Time's Sake' Log Cabin

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Our authentic log cabin was built in the early 1930's and has been newly restored. It is situated on nearly 300 peaceful acres along the Meramec River and has river frontage for you to enjoy. We have easy river access and a small gravel bar. Float trips by canoe or raft may be available by reservation for an additional fee. Bedroom #1 has a queen size bed, antique dresser, and a fireplace. The bunkroom has one full bed, one twin bed, and a set of bunk beds. The back porch dining hall seats 12 people and has plenty of room for games and activities (we have several to choose from or bring your own). There is a TV and VCR/DVD player (we have some movies too), but no cable or internet...PERFECT! The kitchen is stocked too! There is room to pitch a tent (or several for an additional fee)! Relax away from the stress in our quiet getaway and make many new memories. This place is the perfect place to get away from it all and 'rough it' while still enjoying the modern conveniences of home!

Float trip weekend with friends

  • 5 of 5

My hubby and I stayed here with 2 other couples for a float weekend. Elaine was helpful and patient waiting for us to get our duckies in a row to make the reservation. The house itself is really neat and full of history. During our first few hours, we were already discussing when we might return! It is so peaceful and surrounded by nature. A 1/4 mile walk gets you to the river (or a 2 minute drive!) Their neighbors Tracy and Crystal got us set up with floating. We met them, they drove us to the drop spot and met us when we returned. They were very accommodating and made our experience a great one! The one and only minor issue we had was that the beds are hard and uncomfortable.

Exactly what we were looking for!

  • 5 of 5

We had so much fun, the cabin was clean and had everything we needed, the kids loved the slumber party in the bunk room with parents, we saw lots of wildlife, and the unplugged atmosphere made everyone connect, share stories, play games and be creative. Shared in a couple of pinterest Fails around the campfire which only adds to the memories. Having front door service for our float was amazing, they were prompt, courteous and made things easy. Thank you!

Rustic but nice

  • 4 of 5

The only reason I left 4 stars instead of 5 is because the air conditioner was broke the first night and my husband and brother in law had to mess with it. The owner came fast to help and by Saturday they were able to get it working. Luckily it was cold Friday so it wasn't a big deal. We would have been miserable if it hadn't started working Saturday thought. Also, the kitchen was limited and a lot of the utensils were old. Other than that, I was really happy with it. The land is beautiful, peaceful and quiet and the cabin was nicer than the pictures looked. My nephews and niece loved the bunk beds, toys and playing outside. The cabin didn't have bugs in it and it was clean for how old and rustic it is. The fire circle was really nice and right outside. They even had a few movies for us to watch and lots of toys for the kids to play with! The bathroom was really clean and cute! The cabin is really great for one or two families with kids. Everyone loved it! I would go back!

Looking for a tranquil rustic getaway?

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect weekend retreat for my boyfriend and me. I loved the fabulously secluded location next to a field of cows with a lovely walk to the river .

The cabin is quaint with nicely understated yet tasteful decor totally appropriate for the rustic setting. it was very clean. I give this 5 stars because this is a super unique location but I don't want to mislead anyone in thinking they will get 5 star furnishings, expect basic rustic comfort in this delightful 1930's family owned farm log cabin. If you want peace and quiet, no technology, a serene pastoral setting and a super cool, unique hideaway I suggest you book this place.

Spider Horror

  • 3 of 5

We looked so forward to this get away. The cabin was pretty and old but was not sealed and the land was beautiful. River access was, although through a field on the property, quite a distance from the cabin. The gravel bar needs some cleaning and weeding as well. The cabin could have been cleaner and the coffee pot did not work. Kitchen appliances and dishes were pretty old. Not many bowls for serving food. The fire pit was great and the surrounding land was beautiful. Our 2 small dogs loved being outside not leashed. Our horror began in the evenings when like clock work about 6:00 PM, large black spiders would constantly be running across the floors. We are not afraid of spiders kind of people, but this was ridiculous. Too many spiders to count were killed every night. It became like a horror movie. We would have went somewhere else if I had not already paid for the full 2 nights and the local hotels were full. The owner came by, we told him of this, he just stated that they had just sprayed so he did not know why this was happening. There were so many spiders it became hilarious. The owners dogs also managed to come over, labs, very friendly to people but we had small dogs the big one wanted to fight with. We had to put our dogs inside an evening until theirs were picked up by a neighbor. Never so glad to leave a cabin. We will not be returning to this place. The spiders and lack of sealing the cabin inside with the additional minor irritations make this only a 3 for me.
