Located at our Otter Creek cattle ranch, where we have lived for six generations, the cabin on Otter Creek has a living room with lovely views of the Crazy Mountains, comfortable stuffed hickory chairs and sofa, wagon wheel lights. The dining area has a hickory table which seats 4 easily by a picture window or there is a back deck for eating where you can listen to Otter Creek and watch one of our glorious sunsets as you watch deer, fox and birds enjoy the evening. The kitchen has a full refrigerator with freezer section, microwave, toaster, sink, dishes, utensils and cups and glasses. The propane stove has 4 burners and an oven. There are cooking utensils, pans, etc., in the cupboards as well as flour, sugar, cereal, s & p and some dry goods. There is also a wood burning stove in the living room for that unbeatable wood heat.
Through a hallway is the bathroom with tub, shower, sink, toilet and another mountain view. The bedroom downstairs has a queen bed, cozy comforter, bedside lights for reading and an overhead light, dresser and closet. This window looks out on the lawn and our own log home which Bill also built.
Up the stairs is a half loft with twin beds, oak dressers, chairs and a spotting scope for wildlife viewing. There is a ceiling fan in the living room which circulates the propane heat. All the rooms are well-appointed with Indian rugs, pictures, plenty of lights and books.
There are fish in Otter Creek that, although they aren't big, make excellent eating. Miles of hiking from the cabin to the mountains are home to sandhill cranes, Canada geese, hawks, eagles, and many song birds, coyotes, an occasional badger, deer, antelope, and elk on our 10,000 acres. There is swimming available in the reservoir; the creek is shallow except at run-off so is great for kids to play.
The photographic opportunities are limitless especially since this rental carries with it privileges to hike and fish in Sweet Grass Canyon at the Sweet Grass Ranch where we have taken guests for 50 years. Riding (mid-June to mid-September only) for several hours may also be available with prior arrangements and at an extra cost during your stay.
The Otter Creek Cabin provides the perfect opportunity to reconnect with family and enjoy the simple pleasures as there is no television. Internet is available. Cell phone service is available at the mailbox (1 mile) or on the hill behind the barn.
In the winter there is sledding on the hills, cross country skiing(call ahead to see if the wind has blown) and skating on the pond and the reservoir.
We do ask that you do not smoke in the cabin.
We have ranched at Otter Creek since 1965, but my wife was raised there. We have a six generation history of sharing our ranching way of life with guests.
Shelly and Bill Carroccia purchased this cabin in 1965
Our family has lived here since 1880, cattle ranching, raising horses and taking guests. We thoroughly enjoy sharing our way of life and lovely country.
Guests here have the additional benefit of enjoying hiking and fishing on our Sweet Gras Ranch property.
A simple review cannot summarize the perfection of this place. All of the little details make this cozy cabin a retreat to remember. To top it all off, we made sure to book some time at the ranch for a horseback ride and had no idea how amazing our experience would be. Everyone welcomed us to the ranch like we were old friends and we had one of the best afternoons of our vacation. Thank you Bill and Shelly for providing an experience we will never forget!
Overpriced for the level of customer service received!
Our family had a wonderful stay in this beautifully handcrafted cabin. It was emaculate and comfortable. We enjoyed the spectacular view of the Crazy mountains and spent a lot of time enjoying the view on the back deck. It was truly a place to relax and unwind. We hated to leave!
A fabulous weekend. This place is great for anyone who likes wonderful accommodations, privacy, great hosts and the outdoors.
Great cabin for beautiful views, hiking, fishing and total relaxation. The cabin had all we needed and the owners were very accommodating.
You are a short, very pretty drive 22 miles from the town of Big Timber. At Melville is Bill's Place which offers an excellent breakfast and lunch Thursday through Sunday. They also cater.
