Amazon Refuge Lodge
Remote, Untouched, Constructed From Naturally Fallen Trees; Mahogany, Ironwood, Rosewood, The most remote Lodge set deep inside the 5,000,000 acre Pacaya Samiria National Reserve extension Peru.

The Amazon Refuge is a complex built in the shape of the Constellation Orion on 100 acres of rainforest on the inside edge of a 5-million-acre nature reserve.

The purpose of the refuge is to provide safe, comfortable accommodations under the guidance of expert naturalist guides for all visitors, and to offer a rewarding learning platform for nature lovers who wish to experience the true splendor of the Amazon rainforest

The lodge area has over 132 species of mammals, 13 of which are primates

The river and lake waters are home to gray and pink dolphins, Amazonian manatees, Giant River Otters, Black Caimans and giant South American River Turtles

Dozens of game fish reach their peak size in our waters; fishing for exotic species at the lodge and the nearby lakes and streams is a world class adventure

Land species include Jaguars, Capuchin Monkeys and Spider Monkeys. The Black Spider Monkey, the Orange-chested Spider Monkey, the Woolly Monkey, and the Howler Monkey; all considered endangered

More than 800 species of birds live here, including five of the eight species of Macaw found in Peru. The prehistoric-looking hoatzin bird is seen here as well and they are seen right at the lodge

Monkeys, Parrots, and a variety of Butterflies are just some of the colorful characters you'll meet while on your expedition to the Rainforest.
Our chefs are trained in all manner of diets; if you have a diet requirement, just let us know when you make your reservation. Typical Jungle Lunch; roasted Piranha, Plantains, Peruvian Tamales, Fruit, and a nice cool bottle of spring water all served on a bio degradable leaf.
We take enormous pride in the accommodations at the Amazon Lodge, the modern amenities combined with a natural setting is not only pleasing, but offers the comforts of home.

Off The Grid

Located on the Yanayacu River, 'The Amazon Refuge and Wildlife Conservation Center' tends to draw hard-core birders, scientists, and serious jungle lovers who appreciate its remote location. The refuge’s 100-acre parcel was granted by the local Indians, who help staff the lodge and manage the reserve.

Guests stay in private, bungalows built from naturally felled trees with roofs thatched from local palms. Here, check rarities like the wattled curassow and Zimmer’s woodcreeper off your birding list, paddle upriver to a congregation of parrots, visit a local CuCama Indian community, and fish for pirarucu (Arapaima gigas)—one of the world’s largest freshwater species.

Ken is the managing partner of one of the most remote lodges off the Amazon River, Peru. Photo above; Ken rescues baby Jaguar from the river, The conservation group along with the Yanayacu Indians will return it to the wild when mature. Juan Carlos Palomino Berndt Managing Partner Mr. Palomino's immediate schedule includes an ongoing series of lectures and presentations on the Amazon Rainforest Bio-Diversity at Dartmouth College (November, 2012). Why the Owner Chose Peru:
Mission The Mission of the Refuge includes providing employment for the local people so they may live productive and sustainable lives, in harmony with nature. And to strengthen the rainforest ecosystem of the Yanayacu area by facilitating sound conservation principles and supporting protection of the community reserve. 4°20'4.37'S 73°17'59.88'W Corporate Lodge Package Our corporate program offers 3 and 5 star resorts in Lima, and Iquitos Peru, where our guests will experience the finest cuisine available in South America. After the overnight stay in Lima, travelers will board their flight to the Amazon River town of Iquitos. This is the worlds largest city without a road leading to it. Iquitos is only accessible by the Amazon River, its tributaries, and by air. The VIP package includes a speed boat passage to the Lodge; this cruise offers an unobstructed view of the Amazon River from the comfort of a modern vessel with licensed captain. Also included in the corporate program is a private bungalow, with any special diet required by the guest. Our chef’s are trained to provide any menu including Vegan, Diabetic, or other specific need. During the stay at the lodge, transportation to the nearby Indian Village will be offered to those who must stay in touch with their company using non Sat. Cell Phones or need internet connection. With the corporate group program all visitors will be offered a Team and Self Esteem Building Seminar. This program compares survival in the jungle as it relates to survival in the concrete jungle.

The Unique Benefits at this Hotel:
'If you want to experience what it feels like to stay in a true jungle lodge deep in the Amazon jungle stay here! The lodge is basic but comfortable. This is not a modern hotel with modern comforts. This is a true jungle experience.' “A true Amazon experience!” An amazing company to book with if you want to see the real amazon. We were indecisive at the beginning as 160 soles per day for backpackers is steep but it was worth every penny! Our tour guide wilder was fantastic from jumping in the river swimming with the dolphins to climbing a tree around 100ft so we could hold a sloth! Accommodation is beautiful a water lodge in the heart of the jungle & the food was great (free tea & coffee all day) It's what you would expect & more! The Amazon Refuge was the highlight of our Peru trip. It's remote location puts you in the heart of the jungle surrounded by wildlife. From our bungalow we heard howling monkeys in the morning, bird songs all day long, and a chorus of frogs in the nights. The guide is exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly, speaks fluent English and truly loves showing you all the treasures of the amazon. In our 4 day trip we went bird watching, monkey and sloth watching, on a nature hike where he showed us medicinal plants that we even got to try, fished for (and caught) piranhas, visited the local village, got blessed by the shaman, and went on a night canoe trip to spot frogs and caymen (alligators). We visited the lodge for the chance to see some birds in a tributary of the Amazon where many species that have been hunted to near extinction closer to the Amazon still thrive. We were not disappointed. During our 4-day stay, we saw more than 250 species, including the Wattled Curassow, a species that is highly endangered because of over hunting. There was a nice mixture of species that require floodplain and upland (tierra firme) forest. There were also primates and other large mammals in abundance that could be seen from the large system of trails
