Once charming cottage now falling apart
It doesn't seem right to charge a premium price for a cottage in this poor condition. The furniture is worn out, I sat on a dining chair and was promptly deposited on the floor with the chair in 6 bits around me. The door handle on the fridge is broken off. There are broken light bulbs. The bathroom is disgusting, the loo seat is so badly cracked that it pinches your bum when you sit on it. There's no window, the shower doesn't fix properly and the tiny cubicle is cracked and rusty. There are no instructions for anything. No "basics" are provided (like matches which are essential to light the gas hob), no dishwasher tabs to get you started. The "First Aid" cupboard has virtually nothing in it except an empty box that once held elastoplasts. The current owner only seems to be interested in his wine business - lots of certificates on the walls and glossy wine books, but magazines/brochures etc are mostly ten years out of date.
A modern and well-appointed apartment with stunning views over the valley. We had trouble finding it - there is a useful map in the apartment and it would have been really helpful if that had been provided before we got there! Lots to do once adjusting to the country roads - taking the train to Regua and to Pinhao were particular highlights.
Getting bread delivered each day was helpful and Maria was lovely and very friendly! A few extra things in the kitchen would have been good (e.g. a sieve for washing salad) but overall the apartment was lovely. The green wine is delicious and we enjoyed sampling the produce of the Quinta. The local people are charming and very welcoming and helpful as we stumbled with our few words of Portuguese.
The house was perfect and the owner was really nice
The village was peacefull and beautifull.
you must go there!
If you want to stay in a quiet, peaceful and comfortable place you will not find an accomodation better then Quinta de Beiredos. Fully equipped house, big garden, private swimming pool and beautiful view on Douro valley - it was more than we expected to get. The house has its own soul, you will not feel it in big guesthouses or hotels. And the most important thing: hospitality of Manuela. You can really feel you are her guest, not a customer. Many thanks to Manuela and Maria - thanks to you we spent a week that we will never forget.

"This was a gorgeous wine-making quinta to stay in and there is nothing further that Manuela could have done to make us feel any more welcome or comfortable! She is the best hostess! The house was very well equipped and clean with everything provided. (It''s fairly snug as its a few hundred years old).
The pool was gorgeous too.
Be aware that while the views of the valley are so beautiful and everything is so peaceful, it is a bite remote and you will need a car to get there and to any of the regions attractions."

"We enjoyed this clean, beautiful, comfortable, well equipped house in St Cruz do Douro. The welcoming was heartwarming. The wine of the quinta of Manuela was superb. We also think it is a good starting point for trips to Porto, Quimaraes, casa Mateus etc. Thank you Manuela for your hospitality.
