Your family can live like a Royal Family during a magical stay at Camelot by the Sea, Montserrat’s most luxurious rental residence.
From the moment you arrive at the driveway, majestically lined by grand Royal Palms, you realize you are entering a very special, private and opulent world.
The large double entrance doors open to magnificent coastal views that appear to go on for ever. Take a deep breath of the fresh, clean air and look to your left at the blue Caribbean Sea and the islands of Nevis and Redonda. To the right take in the tree covered hillsides that climb to the azure sky.
Crossing a romantic arched bridge that spans the swimming pool a sanctuary is found. A coned roofed Gazebo which overlooks the ocean, the waves lapping onto a beach and the coastline. Equipped with a wet bar, including ice maker and wine cooler, it also houses a built in BBQ and seating for your family or friends. This is the perfect spot for a cocktail or casual dining as the sun sets over the ocean and the lights begin to twinkle throughout the hills.
Force yourself to turn away from the mesmerizing views and look back at the magnificent property that hugs the hillside. You have truly found your ideal vacation haven on this small, beautiful, virtually undiscovered safe and friendly island. But it’s time to explore more of your island home…….
You enter the grand room, fronted by the pool, through one of the four sets of mahogany French doors. Exquisite furnishings and tropical décor are found throughout together with everything you could ever imagine to make your stay as comfortable as possible. A fully equipped, state of the art kitchen, laundry and office are also located in this part of the home.
Next you discover three of the four bedrooms, including the master suite, fit for any King and Queen. All are air conditioned for comfort or simply cooled by the constant trade winds. The master suite has a king size bed and a bathroom that will take you breath away. As you enter the master bath, which alone is the size of most hotel suites, the magnificent views once again stretch before you. You circle a stunning curved glass divider to discover a large shower that looks out to the Caribbean Sea and the beautiful northern coastline. Step outside to a romantic outdoor shower and a large private master suite terrace that again takes advantage of every view. This is your private sanctuary hidden away from your family or guests for those special alone moments.
Following a flower lined footpath, venture to another level where you will find a unique round guest suite with panoramic coastal views that can be enjoyed from the comfort of the queen sized bed or the private balcony. Further along the path you discover another door leading to a media room with an extra large flat screen TV and comfortable air conditioned seating, perfect for a family evening at the movies or a great retreat for the children.
As you meander though the manicured, colorful gardens you find a set of secret steps that wind down the cliff to Woodlands Beach, a small beach with sand the color of black pearls… better still, it’s almost on your Doorstep.

About Sam McChesney
My wife and I live with our 3 dogs, 4 horses on a ranch located between Lawrence and Kansas City, Kansas. We have three grown children and 4 grandchildren and are currently semi-retired. We spend our time with our family and enjoying activities like horseback riding, golfing, and traveling. We like to spend as much time as possible at our second home in Montserrat, Camelot by the Sea.
Sam McChesney purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Sam McChesney chose Woodlands
My parents retired to Monsterrat in the 60's and we fell in love with the island. Now, with my wife of 45 years, who was with me as my fiance the first time I ever visited Montserrat, built our dream home that we split our time between. We are both originally from Cleveland Ohio, but have spend the last 40+ years just outside Kansas City, on the Kansas side. After spending my career in real estate, we now run and live on a 80 acre horse ranch, called the Painted M Ranch in Olathe, Kansas. We take great pride in our Camelot by the Sea and keep it in the best condition by having a full time professional staff manage the property while we are not there. If there is anything we can provide you with to make your stay more enjoyable please don't hesitate to ask. Montserrat is the hidden gem of the Caribbean and we look forward to helping you discover all the secrets and beauty if holds.
What makes this Villa unique
Camelot by the Sea is one of the most prominent properties on the island of Montserrat. It has been featured on an official government postage stamp and included in many of their travel and promotional literature. We chose this property due to its proximity to the beach, majestic ocean views, privacy, and unique indoor/outdoor lifestyle.

Camelot by the Sea is nothing short of spectacular. There is a short video on-line which gives a good representation. I watched it many times while anxiously awaiting my vacation. Upon arrival, the villa was everything I imagined it to be. The living areas are all indoor / outdoor so that you are surrounded by tropical plants, breezes and the sound of the ocean while enjoying every amenity you can imagine. The villa was spotless and the pool sparkling. There is a screening room / home theater, but we never used it. Who wants to be inside, when the outside is so grand? Most nights we sat around the bar in the gazebo enjoying a cocktail with the setting sun. Insects were not an issue when we were there.
Bedrooms are all situated to face the gardens and ocean. The whole front wall of the master bedroom can be opened (while still protected by screens) to enjoy the breeze all night long. My daughter and her husband stayed in the “ocean bedroom” which is located under the gazebo. It is located on the cliff with all louvered walls allowing a 180-degree unobstructed ocean view. They thought it was the best bedroom in the villa.
Sam, the owner of the villa, was easily reached on-line or by phone and quickly responded to any questions. Prior to moving in we stayed a few nights at a guesthouse on the island and Sam graciously allowed us to move our perishable food to the house prior to actual check-in time. Dwain, the property manager, was awesome. He met us there to give us the tour and checked in on us to make sure everything was going well. A recent power outage had disturbed the wi-fi; Sun came promptly and reset everything for us
My advice is to stay longer if you can. Also bring slip-on rubber soled shoes. The tile gets slippery when wet. Barefoot was slippery but was not a problem when wearing rubber flip-flops. Bring snorkeling gear; there is very good snorkeling at the south end of Woodland’s Beach. Be sure to take the tour of Plymouth with Sun. We ate a Pont’s, People’s Place, The Attic, Olveston House, and Watermelon Cottage. With the exception of Olveston House, the chef of these establishments is also the owner. They are all so friendly and we enjoyed not just the food but having the opportunity to meet local people and hear their stories. Go to Hank’s Beach Bar; it is a very large covered seating area right on the beach. We brought a cribbage board and played some cribbage while enjoying a rum cocktail and some appetizers. It is under new management
Thanks for your kind review. I agree with you that extra time, if you can arrange it with your schedule, is very nice. We stay three months, which is very nice. It feels like the first week we a settling in. So, if you can stay a second week that would further enhance the enjoyment of Camelot by the Sea and Montserrat.
We hope to see you on future trips to Montserrat.
I am glad your 60th Birthday was a big hit.

The pictures don't do the property justice!
As soon as we walked in to Camelot by the Sea we were in awe. The setup is beautiful, with open outdoor spaces and a beautiful pool with a gazebo and outdoor barbecue area. The view is amazing, and you can also walk down to the beach via a private path. The master bedroom has a huge bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower, but all the bedrooms are comfortable and peaceful. Sam was very accommodating and made sure we were able to get a car rental, a private chef and anything else we needed
So glad you and your party enjoyed Camelot by the Sea. Julia sent drone photos. They are fantastic.
Hope we will see you again.
Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Island Trasure Part 1
I don’t even know where to begin or how to find the right words in an effort to explain it. You probably understand because some part of your heart must be there to have invested in such a spectacular home. We arrived without any certain expectations other than we were excited to see and experience the beautiful villa that had caught our attention in the pictures. Your home was indeed incredible as we had imagined but even more, it felt magically unique and safe. In addition to that, we loved the people we encountered. Most everyone we met felt as though they would just as quickly give you a big hug as a handshake and some did. Sun started off our 1st day with his tour around the island. What a special and kind soul he is. He truly was a joy to spend the day with and gave us better understanding of the island and its people. He was a great choice for an introduction to Montserrat. We were able to meet his dad, David, when we toured Plymouth. Later in the week we stopped by David’s Hill Top museum/coffee shop. We had waffles and were amazed at all of the pictures and collection of Montserrat history. He was also getting a kick out of listening to some old records he was playing on a turntable. We parted our visit with him with a “God bless you” to each other. His brochure “From Hippy to Happy” is a great testimony to his faith in Christ. The day after we spent touring with Sun, we went diving with Andrew and Emmy. The little fishing/diving boat they used was a bit of a surprise compared to what we have gone diving from in the past. As it turned out, it was perfectly fine and what great people they were too. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with them. We didn’t have anything planned for Saturday and told Andrew we enjoyed the diving so much we would like to go again. He offered to meet us at the beach below your villa and do a shore dive. We jumped at the idea and as it turned out, that was one of the best dives we have ever done. We saw a turtle that swam all around us, we saw a sea horse, lobsters, sting rays, moray eels, crabs, shrimp, lots of fish, and found some shells. Visibility was excellent. You have it all right there off of your beach! Andrew was an easy going dive guide who was the most fun of anybody we have ever had the pleasure to dive with. John at Pont’s was an awesome host as was Marcia at Ziggy’s.
I would give it six out of five stars if I could!
When you first see a place like Camelot By The Sea it’s hard to believe it’s real and I can honestly say pictures absolutely cannot do this place justice. Beyond far exceeding our expectations, the luxury of Camelot By The Sea was extraordinary.
Dwain, the property manager, arranged a rental car for us and picked us up at the airport. He was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. On the way to the villa from the airport he showed us a local grocery store(Ashok’s) which was close by and great for locally made bread, groceries, liquor/wine/beer, and delicious take away Indian food. He also showed us the bank and recommended a few things to do and places to see.
When we arrived at the house we were in awe; it was simply paradise. The entrance had immaculate landscaping, beautiful flowers, and a driveway lined with royal palms; it was breathtaking. You then enter the breezy foyer that opens to reveal a crystal blue pool with a bridge leading to the gazebo. The fully stocked kitchen has everything except actual food(spices, tin foil, ziplock bags, cookware, grilling tools, etc.). The master bedroom has a very large master bath with sliding doors that open to an outdoor shower which we thoroughly enjoyed. Even more exciting for us music lovers was the Sonos speaker system that you can hook your laptop to which plays in the kitchen/living space, and the gazebo!
Although we’d planned to go out for most meals, we only ended up eating out once(at The Attic, which we recommend for brunch). The house’s breathtaking views were so beautiful we ended up cooking on the grill in the gazebo for almost every meal. There’s even a swim up tile table in the pool so you can have a drink or eat a meal in the pool. We enjoyed taking a dip in the pool at any given moment and found it hard to leave such a lovely and well appointed villa.
Although there are TV’s and wifi, we hardly used either of them. My wife is a Netflix junkie, but there was nothing more relaxing or beautiful than life in the villa; you don’t want to be distracted or miss a moment. Every part of this villa was perfect, from the paved stairs down to Woodlands black sand beach with a sturdy metal handrail the entire way down(we loved this “secret path to the beach”), to waking up and having 3 or 4 iguanas in the back yard, it was an unforgettable trip thanks to the incredible natural beauty of Montserrat and the exquisite Camelot By The Sea villa.
Thanks for such a thoughtful review of Camelot by the Sea. I am so glad that you and Rachel had the opportunity to have your Honeymoon with us.
Much of the beauty of this house is owed to the creativity of our dear friend Dyann Hollender who saw its beauty and potential when it didn't look like it does now and strongly encouraged us to buy it. For over two years Dyann and her husband, Brian, worked on the remodel. Last June Dyann passed away after a courageous fight with Pancreatic Cancer.
We hope to see you on another trip to the Emerald Isle.
Pancreatic Cancer. We dearly missi her a
Can't be beat
Luxury is an understatement about this villa. It starts with the greatest man Dwain meeting us at the airport. He showed us the in and out of the villa. Every morning I had to pinch myself with the breath taking views from this villa. I could go on and on. Don't hesitate to book this villa!
You have blown me away. Only problem is Dwain going to be asking for a raise and I was stupid enough to forward your review to him.
Hope to see you again, but for a longer time.
Over the top
I still can not believe I was there. Dwain picked us up at the airport it was dark when we arrived at the villa. we woke in the morning and wow. I too find it hard to describe the experience. I think you would be making a mistake not to book this castle. From Dwain to all the people who take care of this home we found ourselves with friends. Almost private black sand beach steps away .If you ever wanted to feel like a king this is it. On a scale of 1 to 10 this villa is a 15. Thank you Sam for sharing this treasure with us!
Dear Chris and Loretta,
Thanks for being such great guests. You both really got into the spirit of Montserrat and its people.
We are indeed fortunate to have a home on such a great island.
We hope to see you again.
