The name of the house is “Casa dei cardellini” that means “house of goldfinches” because tiny chirping birds like to make their nests in the jasmine hedge that runs along the porch. The house gives you a feeling of freedom, space and calmness.
The interior furniture is functional and is inclusive of all home equipment for six persons to live comfortably. There are three bedrooms (two double beds and one bunk bed for two persons). Quotation of a guest: “in the house you do not feel stranger; indeed it is a home away from home "!
Outdoor spaces are equipped with tables, chairs, sun loungers, hammock, etc. There is also an outdoor shower with hot water, a laundry, a barbecue and a wood oven to cook pizza. The house is located in a very good panoramic position overlooking the sea, the mountains and the village in a very quiet area with breath-taking scenic beauty. The garden around the house is huge. All the property is fenced. Always blows a pleasant breeze, even in summer hot days. The building was built with highly insulating materials in order to keep a healthy temperature inside the house. In addition, thanks to the sunny Mediterranean climate, the house is comfortable in spring and late autumn, too.
Normally mosquitoes do not infest the spot where the house is. In the evening on the terraces and in the porch a few citronella candles lit on are enough to ward off any possible lonely mosquito. The windows of the bedrooms and bathrooms have mosquito nets.
The house stands in the seaside village of “Santa Caterina di Pittinuri” in the municipality of Cuglieri. Santa Caterina di Pittinuri is a village of about 500 people (year-round inhabited by native people), therefore any month of the year, the tourists have not the feeling of living in a ghost town. A hundred yards from the house is a store that sells the main goods. Other shops (including a pharmacy) bars and a petrol station are in the village.
In the semi basement of the house there is a small apartment with its own courtyard and entrance. This small apartment is independent from the spaces and the services described above. It is lived occasionally by the hosts.
In front of the house, as the crow flies (200 meters distance) there is a kind of natural pool very impressive, surrounded by towering white cliffs. It is reached via a path between bushes of Mediterranean scrub. Either you can get to the water by small steps carved in the rock or you can dive in.
You reach the Bay of the village either by car or on foot (ten minutes walking). The beach is sandy on a side and covered with pebbles on the other side. The sandy side is suitable for small children because the water stays shallow for at least 40 meters. Along the beach, there is a slipway for boats. A few miles farer from the house there are endless sandy beaches. At 10 miles is the Golf Course Is Arenas. At 13 miles, is Cape Mannu, a very good spot to practice surf sport. At 18 miles, is the Roman and Phoenician archaeological site of Tharros.
In Oristano town (25 km from Santa Caterina) there is a huge shopping center “Porta Nuova” (a Mall); you find the supermarket Conad and forty different Shops. The Center is open every day, including Sunday from 9 am to 9 pm.
