Located in Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, our circa 1850 farmhouse is an oasis of hand-hewn charm and modern comfort high above the noise and worries of everyday life. Except for a nearby sugar house, we're the only place on a secluded dirt road and are surrounded by over 21 acres of fields & forest, peace & quiet (the nearest neighbor is over 1/2 mile away). However, the road is maintained year-round and the farmstead is only 1.2 miles from Vermont Route 14-- giving easy access to all the Northeast Kingdom has to offer.
The Wells Farmstead is truly a four-season paradise. Spring brings maple syrup from the sugar house just out back, along with apple blossoms and lilac festivals. In summertime, there are nearby lakes for recreation, sculling in Craftsbury, trails for hiking, farmer's markets in nearby villages and hunting for antiques. The fall is ripe with gorgeous colors, apples and wood smoke during crisp evenings. In winter, the Craftsbury Nordic Center offers renowned cross country trails, while downhill skiers will find Stowe, Smuggler's Notch, Jay Peak, Burke, Sugarbush or Mad River Glen from 45 to 90 minutes from the farm!
If you are interested in food and craft brewing, you'll find Hill Farmstead Brewery, Jasper Hill Farm, Pete's Greens and Hardwick ('the town that food saved') just minutes away.
For rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation, no matter the season, come home to Wells Farmstead in Craftsbury, Vermont!

Very nice home.
Enjoyed our stay and the view.
Captivating House, Bucolic Setting
The three of us -- husband, wife, and Brittany dog -- stayed here twice before, about five and six years ago, and fell in love with the place. But the next time we considered going back we could not remember its location and had lost or misplaced all information we once had about it. Then, early this year, we were invited to a wedding in Jeffersonville, VT, and while looking at the map we spotted tiny Craftsbury not far away, which rang a bell, and just a bit of Googling brought up the Farmhouse on VRBO. Immediately the vexing question of where we would go after the wedding was resolved. Arriving there for our ten-day stay was like returning to the old homeplace for the Holidays. But for a few tiny changes, everything that had created fond memories was the same: The comfortable and well-stocked kitchen; the warm and welcoming living room; the excellent sleigh bed; the mesmerizing views from the backyard; the mouth watering garden, starring lovely butternut squash; the old sugar shack up the hill. Thanks very much to the new owners, Jay and John, for keeping the Farmhouse on the VRBO listings, and for the very generous basket of goodies we found on the kitchen table. Sorry guys, about breaking the rack on the refrigerator door -- we'll be glad to pay for its replacement.
Wonderful well-kept spacious farmhouse in the Northeast Kingdom
Gorgeous older farmhouse in northeast Vermont that has been well-cared for. The house is extremely comfortable--the beds are great; the linens are lovely. I appreciated the well-stocked kitchen. The view is amazing. We spent a lot of time gazing out at the mountains. I would love to rent it again!
Thank you so much for your kind review. We would love to have you return as well! So happy you liked our retreat in the Kingdom.
Guaranteed as advertised
The Wells Farmstead is just as advertised and we just had a wonderful winter weekend to celebrate a birthday and get away from it all. The fabulous VT farmhouse is very respectfully restored and has all of the comforts of home. No cell service for sure, but the internet and satellite TV will keep you as connected as you want to be. So many places to explore in the trails around the house you never need to leave, but the Craftsbury Outdoor Center is not to be missed especially if you are a nordic enthusiast. The beautiful sleigh beds were so comfortable, and the kitchen was stocked with all of the basics you need to support some great family meals. We would HIGHLY recommend this listing and are already talking about returning next winter.
We just spent 5 nights at the farm - snowed nonstop! The old farm house is very well equipped - everything you could need including a welcome basket filled with goodies. The kitchen is the hub of the house - it has utensils, food staples, and plenty of seating. All of this made the vacation relaxing and enjoyable.
Several things to consider in winter - Craftsbury is a sleepy place; this is not the place for you if you are looking for apres-ski night life, shops and restaurants, etc. Also, the farm is located about 1/2 mile up a dirt road that is plowed quite infrequently. Twice we had to leave our car at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the house. Our other vehicle with 4 WD and fancy snow tires saved the day!
We snowshoed about 3 miles each day, breaking trail around the place just to have it snowed over again the next day. We built a snowfort up at the top of the hill and had a great snowball fight. If you love winter, relaxing and VT, you'll love this place
Anne: We want to thank you for your lovely review of our Wells Farmstead! We are so glad to know you and your family had a fun stay-- and glad to know you had a good vehicle in addition to the snowshoes!!
Thanks again and please think of us when you next come to the Northeast Kingdom.

Beautiful, secluded farmhouse
We went to Craftsbury for a September wedding and loved our stay in this updated, immaculate farmhouse. The decor is lovely, the kitchen is large and welcoming, there is plenty of living space in addition to the many bedrooms & bathrooms, but the views are what put this house in a whole other league. The kitchen has a wall of windows looking onto gorgeous flower and vegetable gardens, and a lovely lawn complete with a row of Adirondack chairs facing the stunning, wide-open mountain views. Breathtaking! I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone who came to enjoy a visit to the Northeast Kingdom.
We want to thank you so much for your lovely review of the Wells Farmstead farmhouse. It is a place we cherish very much. We would love to have you visit again. All the best from our family to your family.
