"My wife and I and 2 dogs were lucky to arrive when the leaves were close to peak and the weather was sunny and close to 80 F and also a day before it was scheduled to be rainy and windy. A dirt path led to a clearing near the pond where we parked. Benches can be seen near the pond. To the right there was a dirt road leading up to the cabin overlooking the pond. We initially opted to walking up the shorter steeper route consisting of stone steps and rails made of branches. While unpacking the car with our hands full we chose the longer, less steep, dirt road to go back and forth. While unpacking we had the opportunity to meet Jeff ,Karen's husband when he came to check on the cabin. With no other renters they were kind enough to allow us to check-in and check-out whenever we liked. Coming from NY it was nice to listen to the quiet. The gas lights were nice but utilized candles more when we were awake because being a warm day the gas lights gave off a lot of heat. There were a lot of hiking trails to avail of but unfortunately we didn't have time to explore as much as we would've liked. The cabin and area is as described. We only stayed 2 nights so we were able to get by with cleaning ourselves with body and facial wipes. Remember, there aren't any showers, but Karen provided some sources in town to wash if needed. For a sit down breakfast that is close by I would really recommend the Green Goddess Cafe. As a suggestion be there before 9:45am and be sure to place your order first, then sit down and wait for your order to be called. Lines form very quickly because anyone who enters has to stand on line to place their order. While we were eating the line peaked at 15 people. The one thing that was a little unnerving is what I'll refer to as the strange dog, this is before I knew who's dog it was. I wake up one morning, with daylight approaching, I hear a dog in the distance barking. It's not to bad from a distance but it's barking is getting louder and louder but I don't see anything when I look out the window of the cabin. I go about doing my morning routine. Take the dogs out then walk down the path to the car where I feed them. After I fed them I turn and finally see the barking dog around 2 car lengths away barking at us. I didn't know whose dog it was at the time or whether it was friendly or not so I put my 2 dogs in the car. After a few minutes it stopped barking and just walked away."

  • Great vacation!

"We are a group of 4 couples and one child ranging in ages from 5 - 92. This was our second summer vacation at this place and the fact that we’re already booked and paid our deposit for 2017 should tell you how much we like it. The previous reviewer mentioned the 2 drawbacks were no dishwasher and no bathroom on the lower level. There’s a lot of people to wash dishes so the dishwasher is not a big deal, but the bathroom is. It would make life a lot easier for the occupants of those 2 downstairs bedrooms in the middle of the night. It would also be so much easier to come in from the lake or sitting outside and have a bathroom on that level. We were surprised that there is no railing on the interior staircase. It really needs one. The property is huge so you never worry about disturbing neighbors. The house is large so everyone has space. The enclosed front porch is probably the greatest thing about the house. You can sit there rain or shine and just take in the view and enjoy the breezes blowing in through the many windows. We can’t say enough about that porch. This year a large table was added to one end of the porch which was great. We ate all our dinners out there. Once you’ve heated up the kitchen with cooking it’s nice to be able to move out to the porch to eat. We came to this rental after several years at another property. We had amassed a box of “necessities” based on what was lacking at the other rental. This house is so well equipped that we have decided to leave almost all of those items at home. The kitchen has tons of dishes, pots & pans, silverware, and glassware. The bedding is very nice (we bring our own sheets & towels), and 2 of the main floor bedrooms have air conditioners in addition to several portable fans throughout the house. It would be really great if there was a 2nd fridge (bar size?) downstairs. The listing says it sleeps 10-12 and if you're stocking up on a trip into a larger town (with a real grocery store), that fridge fills up fast and it would great to have a place for extra juice, milk, or soft drinks! We can't wait for next year!"
