About Alan and Heidi King
Just relocated to Southern California to spend time with our grandchildren, while continuing to work full time. Held professional careers in northern VA and to escape the business, we head to relax in the Caribbean. Heidi served as a Peace Corps Volunteer shortly after college and then later, Alan and Heidi 'tied the knot' on the veranda of the Golden Lemon Inn. St Kitts holds a special place in the hearts of the King family!
Alan and Heidi King purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Alan and Heidi King chose Saint John Capisterre
The Kings hold sacred the West Indian people, lifestyle, and cuisine. When staying at The King's Retreat you will be recharged and refreshed while enjoying this ocean front property! At the same time, if you wish, you have the opportunity to experience the authenticity of island living and become immersed in the village life.

Beautiful, peaceful gem of a place!
No blood pressure medication needed here!!! We LOVED our stay in Dieppe Bay. The villa was beautiful and you won't find another place on the island that is this close to the beautiful blue water. The small village of Dieppe Bay is about a 30 minute cab ride from Bassetterre (main city). Dieppe Bay is a small village, if you are looking for night life and restaurants, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to relax, enjoy a beautiful location, and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean in a beautiful villa - this is the place for you. Our taxi driver, Geraldine, stopped and waited while we picked up groceries & drinks on the way to the villa which allowed us to stay put and soak in the peacefulness of the place. The views off the deck are amazing and it is easy to stay cool with the pool just steps away from the ocean wall. The views from the back window are just as beautiful with the Mount Liamuiga volcano in their back yard. There is a small bar/restaurant (Arthur's) a few steps away that is open until 5:00 pm and the Reef Bar which was a hut on the beach with tables made of pallets (we walked past and didn't know it was an open functioning restaurant) took us by surprise that they were serving grilled lobster and garlic bread, which was delicious! We were able to sleep with the upstairs balcony door wide open and have the sound of the ocean lull us to sleep while enjoying a cool breeze over us from the ocean. We emailed the owners a couple of questions after we arrived, and response time was within minutes. For more hands on help, their caretaker, Bernice, and Heidi's mom were close enough that we could reach out to them to answer our additional questions. I don't know how we got lucky enough to find this gem of a villa, but anyone who is "thinking" about booking it, please stop thinking and start booking!
We are so pleased that you had a wonderful stay! Dieppe Bay offers a true taste of Caribbean living--and glad you to to experience it! We think it is a hidden gem too and hear the same from all of our guests! You are most welcome to come back anytime.
What a VIEW! and PLACE!
The combination of the wood antiques and the Caribbean accents make this island paradise a comfortable homey stay. Leave the master bedroom doors open at night to hear the soothing sounds of the ocean. Snorkeling off the point by Arthur's is great as was lunch after. If your in shape hike the volcano. Be sure to grab a cool beverage at the volcano bar at the bottom. The pool is a great bonus especially in the morning or late afternoon. Joy and Bernice truly are wonderful, making you feel like the first and only guests. We had the most relaxing week. A gem. For those wanting night life and lots of action this is not the spot for you. If you want an escape then you have found it.
Thanks for taking time to provide a thoughtful review of your stay at The King’s Retreat! We are grateful that your family too finds beauty in our Caribbean diamond in the rough! Come back again anytime!
All de best,
Alan and Heidi
We had a wonderful two week stay at King's Retreat in January. The weather in St. Kitts at that time of the year is superb. We had sunny skies with daily short rain showers that brought out beautiful rainbows. The villa was clean and very pleasant, there were mosquitoes at night so I recommend the use of the mosquito nets. We rented a car but only drove during the daytime since the roads are narrow and with a lot of curves. That limited us to going out at night only to the local restaurants. There are only three local eateries, Cooper's, Mugsy and Arthur's. The first two are very rustic but offered a very local and tasty, economic fare. Arthur's was upscale with overpriced food. We chose this place because it was away from the touristy areas but be warned that going to the beach or to town requires a 30 to 35 minute drive. Our favorite time was spent drinking coffee in the morning and gin and tonics in the late afternoon on the deck overlooking the Atlantic. There is a small black sand beach very close but it is not kept up by anyone so it is a bit rough. Everyone we encountered in the village was extremely warm and welcoming. We were lucky to share our time there with Alan and Heidi, the owners and Joy, Heidi's mother. They are super friendly and helpful.
Thanks for the complementary review. What awesome guests! Before they arrived, what great communicators and we knew we would enjoy meeting them. We’re glad they loved exploring St. Kitts and the peace and quiet of Dieppe Bay. We welcome them back anytime to stay at The King’s Retreat!!!
Relaxing and enjoyable
Great family vacation spot
Thanks so much for bringing your family to experience authentic Caribbean living! I know it is a trip you will hold fond memories of for a long time to come. All the Best!

My family of three stayed in Kings Retreat Easter Week. We found the house comfortable and it looked exactly like the pictures, if anything the house was better than the pictures. The house showed its age but was comfortable and well stocked with everything a family needs to have a great vacation, including beach towels (which I wish we had known in advance). The bedrooms were spacious and both had great views. The living room was very comfortable, we especially enjoyed being able to access the pool directly from the living room. The view from the deck was spectacular, I’m surprised there aren’t more pictures of the deck on the website. The house is an easy 2 minute walk to Dieppe Bay beach which is where Arthur’s is located. We had lunch there on several occasions and found the food and service to be excellent. The only bad thing about Arthur’s is that it’s not open for dinner. We also got take-out from Coopers (about a 2 minute drive) that was excellent, their building is little more than a shack but don’t let that deter you, it is very good.
What the description of Kings Retreat doesn’t tell you is that it’s located in what I would call a third world village. While we found some people there to be VERY friendly like Joy the caretaker, Chef the caretaker of the other unit or Louis the local artist, others in the village seemed to view us with indifference. Dieppe Bay is remote which is what we expected, but we didn’t expect the roads to be so narrow through the many villages along the way to Dieppe Bay. It is a 30 minute trip back to the airport, 45 minutes to Frigate Bay/Shipwreck Bar, and nearly an hour to Cockleshell Beach. The novelty of seeing herds of goats along the road quickly wore off. We did see monkeys very close to the house which made my daughter very happy. The remoteness would be great had the village not been SO destitute and the roads to town much better. When we read the description of the remoteness I pictured more Road to Hana and while it was a little like that the poverty was hard to get past.
Many people rated this property five stars. While it checks all the boxes for a fun vacation I don’t think it’s a five star property. The house didn’t lack for amenities but most of the amenities were well past their prime. The beach is not your stereotypical golden sand beach and the village far from 5 star. We found it hard to assimilate to such an impoverished village.
A fabulous escape!
We stayed at The Kings Retreat from March 11 to 18, 2017. It is a hidden gem in St. Kitts. The villa has everything you need for a fabulous and relaxing vacation. It's clean, beautifully decorated and takes full advantage of being right on the water. It's a different experience than staying at a resort and we found it to be wonderful. The sound of waves, the visiting birds and the warm and friendly people made our experience really special. The water was pretty rough while we were there so we were not able to snorkel on the reef, but there are many other protected places on the island and we had fun exploring. The hosts were generous and very helpful. We had a very positive experience and would recommend staying here.
Thanks so much for choosing The King's Retreat for your stay in St Kitts It's truly a wonderful island experience staying in Dieppe Bay and we are pleased you an your family took full advantage of the it! Come back anytime...we love sharing our villa with great guests like you!
