Guestbook comments from the owner

House was better than the on line pictures, bedrooms are spacious, grounds are gorgeous, setting is picture perfect, house has a very comfortable feel to it; furnishings and items provided by the host were more than expected, and much better than you would find in a competing hotel or motel setting. For our family this house was five stars ... Thank you !

Wonderful respite from a chaotic world!

  • 5 of 5

Three couples and pooches hung here for a crisp November weekend. Air was crisp, nights were spectacular and bonds of friendship bolstered over fire, conservation, cooking and commiserating. Lovely place. We hope to return and repeat...

It's a GREAT PLACE!

  • 5 of 5

Humans and Canines really enjoyed everything about the property and had a great time. We had a boat delivered and picked up at the dock. It was a very smart rental process with all the information you could need about the home, the area attractions etc. The house and lake are beautiful. Highly recommend.

10/27-10/31 Peaceful & Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful home. This property is exactly the way the site says it is. Running around in the backyard was perfect for our dog Daisy. The docks, the use of canoes were so easily accessible. The house was immaculate and well taken care of. We enjoyed the quietness of late October while playing scrabble in the screened porch, grilling nightly, making breakfast every morning in the well equipped kitchen and just relaxing and fishing down at the lake. The hot tub was clean and set at the right temperature for our early morning dip. It was a big house for just the two of us and our dog, but it was the perfect getaway (just not long enough). It was lady bug mating season, so we were greeted by hundreds of lady bugs and one flew in my ear and came out 45 minutes later. I think that means I'll have good luck for quite some time. Thanks again Leslie, Cheers to you! Bill, Brittany & Daisy, Richmond, VA

2nd visit just as excellent as the first!

  • 5 of 5

We love this place and hope to make it an annual trip. We used to go to the Outer Banks but find this to be more relaxing and just as convenient from Richmond. It is perfect for our K9 heavy family. New fire pit was perfect for a S'mores night. The Kitchen is great for anyone looking to cook a gourmet meal for the family. Well stocked with everything you should need.

We have yet to try the Hot tub. Maybe next time. Thanks again for having us and the 'Kids'

Beautiful Piece of Property

  • 3 of 5

We arrived at the property on the day of Hurricane Matthew before check in time. The staff was still there cleaning but they were nice enough let us sit in the basement while they finished. At this point in time, no one made us aware that arriving early would cancel some of the perks that the cabin provided, such as a working fire place. This had to be cancelled due to our early arrival. We would have easily gone to a restaurant to wait had we'd known.

The cabin and scenery were beautiful. Everything was well maintained and clean. We had a wonderful time using the outside fire pit, the numerous porches and enjoyment of the cabin retreat feel.

Our only complaint, being new to the area and never having used the cabin before, was working with the cabin owner. The information we were sent and the book inside the house had many discrepancies along with fees we were unsure of, for example - the use of the hot tub - which we didn't use due to those fees and not wanting to make anymore phone calls. Simple questions such as, are the twin beds long or regular, were returned with answers that made us feel like we were complaining. We also called out of respect to the owner and property about what appeared to be a slight leak in the pipes below the sink. Our call was not "welcomed" as it states they are in the book. Our final call, again out of respect and not wanting to do anything that would damage the property, was about the use of the fire places in the home. Being unaware at the time that this had been cancelled due to our early arrival - again - our call was not welcomed but more of an annoyance. We made no more phone calls.

Thank you to HomeAway for providing such a nice cabin but it is very doubtful we will stay here again due to the owner (our reasoning for the 3 stars). However, we'd still recommend this cabin to others in hopes customer service would be more welcome to the next guests.

We wish the owner and her family well wishes and prayers during what may have been a difficult time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying.. Several notes on this guest- so anyone desiring to rent to them feel free to call me ! 1) There are no extra fees at all to anyone - I supply the firewood and everything down to the dish soap and more. 2) In 20 years of renting this home - this is the first 3 star I ever received- everything else 5 and beyond- from everyone. 3) We did answer promptly the question on the twin beds- it is a long twin bed and they are very easy to accommodate 4) the extra fee you are complaining about is the vrbo fee- which I Have nothing to do with- they charge it on every reservation and I never see it - nor does any home owner . 5) The hot-tub is there for everyone to use - and you did use it according to my neighbors that live there - and it is free - so not sure why you are lying ? 6) You called and the wonderful thing is we have recorded calls - you said the sink plumbing was "stripped " and there was a "huge leak" we recorded our conversation back to you - you did not answer the phone at 9pm ( 15 minutes after you called this in - but you had been there since 1:30 in the afternoon - early check in - way early since check in is 4pm - _ the poor other guests felt like they were pushed out the door as they put it ) .. we sent someone over - you had them locked out - did not respond , they did get in - and they found nothing wrong .. we are glad you called, however - you were wrong- nothing wrong- they checked all new plumbing in the home and nothing wrong anywhere 7) Our guests are always welcome, hence the 15 year repeats 8) The propane company had to cancel the maintenance - since you checked in early and you understood that at the time of early check in - not sure why you are concerned after - this is their company rule - not mine. 9) I have no idea why you are saying there are extra fees - when there are none- and none were charged- however I sincerely do hope you can vacation somewhere else in the future and not have all this fabrication and direct lies which cleaning companies and propane companies can testify to . 10) Thank you vrbo - for sending this along - I even went out before they arrived and purchased a "slow cooker" at their request .. so I am really unsure of what else anyone can do for them .. I dropped everything to go do this along with everything else they wanted.. guess any owner with concerns needs to call me asap - to screen this family in reality .
