This is a fully functional, fully equipped yurt located in the magnificent Unaweeep Canyon. It offers all the amenities of home while still allowing a strong connection with the outdoors. The origin of the "yurt" or "ger" can be traced back to nomadic tribes of Mongolia. While the modern yurt offers a few extra creature comforts, the essence of living in a round structure has remained the same!!!!
Colorado is home and it's where I want to be! I grew up in the mountains and canyons of this great state. I don't plan to leave anytime soon. I respect all people and all points of view (mostly!). I thrive on fresh air, the outdoors and l love a good sweat. Traveling is a passion, at home or abroad. I have trekked through the Rockies, Andes and in between. I have gotten lost more than once. I like beaches, tides and gritty little towns. For me it's all about people and the places they live. How they survive and how they enjoy!
Property Manager/Owner purchased this studio in 2008
If you've never experienced staying in a yurt, now is your chance. Staying in a yurt means staying connected with the outdoor environment. The breeze, the smell, the sounds and of course the VIEWS!! This is truly a unique experience. Come experience it for yourself!
The yurt was great. The property was cozy, comfortable, and clean. Walking out the door of the yurt led to incredible views of the canyon. It felt like we had the whole canyon to ourselves.
We just wrapped up a two night stay at Nick's yurt. Our five year old daughter was thoroughly impressed with the hummingbirds that hang out by the back porch! My husband was blown away with the star watching. I was happy to have a place to relax and enjoy being with my family.
Nick goes out of his way to communicate and keep the yurt extremely clean.
Check out the Gateway car museum- it's impressive! And go for a hike- the trailhead near 135 is easy and fun if you want a safe hike with kids.
We all loved the yurt experience and will definitely stay in one again!
We loved reveling in the yurt's simplicity and remoteness. The Unaweep Canyon is beautiful and those sunsets magical. Despite being warm outside the yurt stayed very cool and we slept Soooo well. A very creative and inspiring space. Would love to go back!
This was our first time staying in a yurt. It was great! We even talked about how we could see ourselves living in one. The views were breathtaking, there are trails nearby, and it is so very quiet. We have never stayed in a place that peaceful. There are a herd of elk across the way and we enjoyed watching them grazing and playing in the water. This place is worth a stay! Very relaxing!
The property is beautiful. The yurt is a clean and comfortable place to cook yummy meals, and to relax in the warmth of the wood burning stove. If you're looking for a peaceful place to enjoy the outdoors, this is it. On our last night we listened to the coyotes and watched a herd of elk graze in the field below us. The stars really are amazing! Absolutely no complaints. Great place, great host.
We stayed for two nights and did some hiking and exploring. Visited the nearby car museum . That is definitely worth checking out.
There is a firepit outside and it was nice to be able to have a campfire at night also we cooked over the fire. Would recommend.
In a sense the yurt is isolated and that's a huge part of its appeal. But because hwy 141 is nearby guests are not cut-off from the world. Rather the Unaweep Canyon drive offers spectacular views and provides good access to a whole range of destinations and activities.
While the destination is remote it is also easy to find so long as you pay attention. From Grand Junction you will travel southeast along Hwy 50 until you reach Whitewater. From there turn right onto Hwy 141 (there is a sign and a billboard at the turn off) heading southwest for approx. 20 miles. The yurt is located on the north-side (right side) of the hwy. It is between mile marker 132 & 133. There is a mailbox and a gate at the end of the driveway. The yurt is at the top of the drive. Please follow the road as it veers to the right and park behind the yurt.
