This is a fully functional, fully equipped yurt located in the magnificent Unaweeep Canyon. It offers all the amenities of home while still allowing a strong connection with the outdoors. The origin of the "yurt" or "ger" can be traced back to nomadic tribes of Mongolia. While the modern yurt offers a few extra creature comforts, the essence of living in a round structure has remained the same!!!!

About Property Manager/Owner
Colorado is home and it's where I want to be! I grew up in the mountains and canyons of this great state. I don't plan to leave anytime soon. I respect all people and all points of view (mostly!). I thrive on fresh air, the outdoors and l love a good sweat. Traveling is a passion, at home or abroad. I have trekked through the Rockies, Andes and in between. I have gotten lost more than once. I like beaches, tides and gritty little towns. For me it's all about people and the places they live. How they survive and how they enjoy!
Property Manager/Owner purchased this Studio in 2008

A beautiful location for a Colorado experience!!
The property has great views and there were lots of elk to watch both days we were there.
It was a comfortable yurt with all of the amenities, but still had a camping feel.
It was about an hour away from Colorado National Monument with many hiking trails nearby.
Chill and scenic
Had a lovely time, the yurt was adorable and the location was pretty. The pellet stove was a little loud but otherwise no complaints. Exactly as expected. Good home base for exploring!
Incredible. We WILL be back!
Very clean, very remote feeling. We are even considering buying our own yurt after this experience. We had little kids and dogs here and they loved running wild. Everything worked fantastically, we cooked outside and inside. The bath/shower is great, kids loved the big tub. This was like tent camping for a queen. Running water, soft beds, a toilet with running water. But the feeling is completely remote. You can hear the cars driving by but you cannot see the yurt from the road, and we easily accessed it with our minivan. Every evening a giant herd of elk came down the mountain on the other side of the road it was incredible. The only thing I wish was different is better instructions for the pellet stove, pictures would be great. Us city dwellers have no idea how to work those things or even which part is the damper and which part is the hopper. Thankfully there was wifi so we googled it on our phones. There is wifi but we did not have cell phone coverage and we were happy about that. The stars were exactly as pictured, absolutely stunning. There was a queen size bed and then a futon, also a bed up in the loft but that is not a good idea with small children, we didn't allow ours up there unsupervised, would be really fun for older children though. The radio was broken/missing and the wifi wasn't strong enough for music so if silence bothers you bring something to play.
We loved this property!! The host was extremely responsive and helpful! It is truly a magical place with wonderful views and very nice indoor accommodations. We visited in an unusually warm January weekend and were pleasantly surprised how warm the yurt was (55-60 degrees with the stove). The entire stay we were discussing other times we could make another trip out and how fun all the seasons would be in this space. Highly recommend!
Great stay! We would consider staying here again.

Incredible Yurt, location, and owner
Nick is probably the best owner I have ever dealt with. I booked way in advance and needed to make some changes to the reservation which he always accommodated and didn't make me feel like I was being a burden. He checked in when we were on our way to make sure we had everything we needed and gave a key recommendation to pick up groceries in Grand Junction before we arrived (although the place was already stocked with essentials like spices/cooking oil/etc.).
The yurt is incredible, we used the pellet stove and the wood stove on different chilly October nights and kept the place very cozy. We really enjoyed the incredible fall colors across the canyon and listening to the elk bugle at night while sitting around the campfire gazing at the stars and roasting marshmallows.
We stayed for 3 nights and loved it for the hiking, exploring, and the opportunity it provided to relax and enjoy a part of Colorado that really deserves more attention for its natural beauty.
In a sense the yurt is isolated and that's a huge part of its appeal. But because hwy 141 is nearby guests are not cut-off from the world. Rather the Unaweep Canyon drive offers spectacular views and provides good access to a whole range of destinations and activities.
While the destination is remote it is also easy to find so long as you pay attention. From Grand Junction you will travel southeast along Hwy 50 until you reach Whitewater. From there turn right onto Hwy 141 (there is a sign and a billboard at the turn off) heading southwest for approx. 20 miles. The yurt is located on the north-side (right side) of the hwy. It is between mile marker 132 & 133. There is a mailbox and a gate at the end of the driveway. The yurt is at the top of the drive. Please follow the road as it veers to the right and park behind the yurt.
